View Full Version : More REASONS to hate Joel Schumacher

I don't think I've ever hated a director as much as Joel Schumacher. The other day I saw Phone Booth on HBO and it was a great film. It was creative, well-crafted, and dark. Then you look at some of his other movies like Falling Down, The Client, and Tigerland and think to yourself what the hell happened with Batman! I know WB wanted a more light-hearted film, but damn Schumacher didn't need to sink so low. He didn't really need to create a campy-gay pornofest like Batman & Robins.
Is it me or don't you guys really hate him?!

So the new reason to hate the guy is the same old one?!
I don't hate him. He's made some very good movies... like you said. Phantom of the Opera looks great as well. Why would I hate a good director?
No director can be perfect, and it wasn't only his fault the Batman franchise went sour.

I also really liked A Time To Kill.
I personally like Batman Forever as a film. I'd rank it just about with Batman Returns as far as entertainment value. What Batman Returns had to deter me from repeat viewings was a dark and even disgusting nature while Batman Forever has its over the top and comical aspects.

The difference is that he's only directed one decent movie (The Rock) and a bunch of crappers (Bad Boys, Bad Boys 2, Armageddon, the infamous Pearl Harbor). Schumacher's got a better track record... IMO of course.
I don't hate Bay... I'd just like to see him run out of the buisiness... so does my grandma...

Well Schumacher may have had some good ones, but Batmand and Robin is worse than all Michael Bay's terrible movies combined. I don't like Michael Bay because I think he's not very talented and only directs eye candy which gets old after like 2 movies, but Schumacher ruined one of my most favorite movie franchises. I don't care how many good ones he's made, he's at the top of my Hollywood hit list.

The reason everyone gangs up on him is because he insulted our intelligence with Armageddon.
If Schumacher ruined the Batman franchise, they wouldn't have made another one...
But they are!

Duh... but they didn't throw the Batman franchise away. He didn't ruin it that bad. If he ruined, then so did the 60's sitcom which was just as campy as Schumacher's movie.
And whoever likes Bad Boys sucks... Watch 48 Hours, Lethal Weapon, or even Lethal Weapon 2. Bad Boys is a waste... IMO of course.

That's completely different because the Batman comics where in fact campy back in the 1960s, so it made no difference.

Actually Schumacher did mess up big time. The only reason Batman is being resurrected is because of the success of the Marvel movies. If it wasn't for that Batman would be dead for good.

Michael Bay is a decent director with lousy scripts to film.

Whatever...
Let's just thank the bat-gods that they're making a new one.

I have seen them all and their sequels and they are all very good except for Another 48 hours. But that doesnt mean that Bad Boys was bad.
Wait....wasnt this thread on Joel Shoemaker????

i think that he has made some great films but no film that he could ever make could ever overpower the stench that is Batman and Robin.
