View Full Version : "The Creeping Fear"

So, Ain'tItCoolNews says the title of Ep3 will be "The Creeping Fear." I kind of like it... it's far more original than "Rise Of The Empire" and "Revenge of The Sith," and it keeps that cheesy serial tone from "Phantom Menace" and "Attack Of The Clones." Plus, it has a lot of meanings (Sidious could be considered a creeping fear, Anakin's downfall results from his creeping fears, etc.)

Any thoughts?

I like it, but I doubt it'll be that.
Nobody predicted or broke the news of the titles The Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones before they were announced by Lucasfilm.
It definatley won't be Rise/Dawn of the Empire of Fall of the Jedi or a similar title. Those names have been floating around since before the prequels began.

Closer, but it's from "Ride The Lightening," which is their second studio album. (after "Kill 'em All", and not counting "No Life Til Leather"... I'm not sure where that fits in exactly.)

Yeah, but wasn't that everybody's reaction to the last two as well?

I think that's why, to me at least, "The Creeping Fear" just works so well as a prequel title. That's not to say it's a brilliant title by any means, but it fits very well with the tone set by the other two. Well, time will tell if it's legit...

In the line of THE PHANTOM MENACE and ATTACK OF THE CLONES I think 'The Creeping Fear' is not that bad! Even TO 'adult' when you take the first two titles?

I expected something like 'The Dark Thunder ships' or 'Evil blackness'.

So 'the Creeping Fear' is growing on me already!

The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
The Creeping Fear
A new Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi

Yeah.. could work.

I don't also think that it'll Creeping Fear, because the Star Wars subtitles tend to have that cheesey old 50's movie type of name, and Creeping Fear doesn't exactly fit along those lines.

I agree that it IS a little too much like "The Phantom Menace." Actually, in that respect, "The Creeping Fear" could have worked as a title for Episode 1. So maybe it won't be the title after all... who knows?

Regarding your comment, Rocketboy-- I think "The Creeping Fear" does fit the mold very well. Maybe not a cheesy 50s movie, but certainly as a pulp serial comic. Couldn't you just picture walking into an old comic book store and seeing "The Phantom Menace," "Attack Of The Clones," and "The Creeping Fear" all lined up on a shelf together?

Well it looks like I'll only refer to it as Episode III.

Variety headlines in 2005

"Creeping Fear Scares Away SW Fans"

or "Creeping Fear Scares Up $80Mil"

It might fit the movie so who knows but it's quite possibly the worst title I've ever heard for a big budget movie.

The Phantom Menace should've been The Sith Menace.

The Dark Path would be a better lame title.

Did anyone see the thing at TF.N?

In response to the title rumor story from AICN, Chuck emailed us about a connection to a 1973 film starring two of our favorite Star Wars baddies, Moff Tarkin and Count Dooku. The Creeping Flesh stars Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing as James and Emmanuel Hildern. Has George been watching old horror flicks again?
UPDATE - John Meins sent this in:

Just thought I’d let you know that a band called FiLo Radio release a new single, the Creeping Fear and are playing a gig next Thursday – April Fools day!!!! See link at BBC Online.
Looks like someone may have been playing a publicity scam on AICN.

:alien: STAR WARS EPRISODE III : the Creeping Fear :alien:

Anakin is turning into a real pain in the Jedi-ass for our old friend Obi (ben) Wan Kenobi.
Together they fight CGI battle after badly animated CGI battle, in the conflict that is now universally know as 'THE GREAT CLONE WARS'.

In the mean time, Padme's ass is getting bigger by the minute, because she has that dork and that hot chick from those QUALITY star wars movies growing in her belly.
She will try to hide her Hutt-like fatness in this movie, by spending most of the screentime wearing ridiculous dresses that even out-do those in the first flick.

Speaking of ridiculous.. there is a new Droid General that has appeared out of nowhere with only one thing on his mind: Kill Jedi and sell as many little miniature action figures of himself as humanly possible.
He goes by the EVIL name of (big roll of thunder and lightning) GENERAL GRIVOUS (da Da DUM!)

We begin our story at the end of the great Clone Wars, in a space battle on the edge of the Corellia system.

Will Anakin turn 100% evil? Will Padme die after or during the birth of this 'New Hope' that everyone's talking about? Will Obi Wan and Yoda survive, and will Sam Windu bite the big one in a 'badass mother ****er' kind of way?
Well.. we kinda know all that already don’t we? the question is: HOW BAD IS THE DIALOG?

Lets find out together.....

"The Phantom Menace" is just another way of saying "The Unseen Threat", which could easily apply to Sidious/Palpatine. I suppose it could also less directly apply to Anakin (since he's not yet seen as a threat.) But according to Lucas' interview in Vanity Fair, it applies to Sidious/Palpatine. As Lucas said, it refers to the character who's "pulling the strings" behind the scenes.

As for "Attack of The Clones"-- yeah, that was dumb. The clones never attacked, they defended. "Clones To The Rescue!" would have been a more appropo title.

I think it works, it fits in with the other titles in the series. The whole thing is supposed to be a homage to 50's scifi serials anyway, which had similarly cheesy titles.

Cheese = good, in rare occasions.

I really think it doesn't matter what is rumored on the web as being the title, Lucas will simply change it if anyone guesses it. The Creeping Fear could actually be the title, but now that it's out there, it won't be.

It will be interesting to see what he comes up with at the last minute if this theory is true.

GL: "Well, I compiled a list of all titles that were circulating the internet and was able to come up with one that no one guessed. It was difficult considering nearly every possible title was used out there, but I think I came up with something pretty original. I give you 'Star Wars Episode III: Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers.'"

Oh crap, I just used up his last ditch effort at a title. Now it will end up being a random series of consonents or something.

I don't think it will be possible for me to be disappointed in whatever title he uses. It's not like the other 2 prequels had stellar titles.

LordofKings
03-27-2004, 07:32 PM
I love The Phantom Menace as a title. I admit there's better, like Shroud of the Sith/Darkside, but The Phantom Menace is a great title in my opinion. It has a great sound to it, and it goes well with the Film. Lets face it, The Empire Strikes Back is not a great titler either, and A New Hope is very dull and simple. But i will admit Attack of the Clones was that great of a choice, but i remember hearing on the news when the title was announced that everyone was dissapointed with the title but they all admitted it had a good ring and sounded good (or something to this effect)

I think GL will pick a good to decent title for ep:3, even if it is The Creeping Fear, that title may not be great but it fits...

If they go with "Rise of" or "Dawn of", it should be "the" instead of "an". As far as we know in the movies, there's only one Empire, so to say "Dawn of AN Empire" sounds a bit weird. It's not just another empire, it's THE Empire.

WHAT DO YOU SEE BEYOND YOUR STARE
AND YOU BELIEVE THAT NO ONE ELSE CAN KNOW

WHAT IS THIS THING YOU KEEP INSIDE
OUT OF THE LIGHT AND WRAPPED IN PRIDE
ALWAYS AFRAID THAT ONE DAY IT WILL SHOW
etc, etc, etc.

If Padme sings that to Anakin, I'll fall out of my chair.

Anyway... back on topic...

It's a bit late to drop the Episode and the sub-title. He has 5 other movies out there with Episode and a sub-title.
