Seeing as I am not as computer literate as others I would like to know where I can find some and exactly how to post it here. I don't get this address thing maybe I just have never really found an avatar. would a buddy icon be considered an avatar? Sorry for not knowing.

Sure, a buddy icon is like an avatar. You just need to have a URL to type into the avatar field in your profile. Like mine, it's http://www.kathleendoe.com/pics/gumby_avatar.jpg
and that links the image to its place on the web, where it "lives" so to speak. I'm not sure about LOTR avatars, but there are plenty of people here who could probably tell you a website they got them from.

Ok well I have a site with a ton of those icons but I can't like pick a specific one to put in the address like the gumby_avatar. It just says like aim pics or something like that, do you know how I would be able to get just one of them?

BAh! I won't accept it, I think I got the hang of it, I just copy the shortcut then post it, thanks Fluckman

Hm, I think with the AIM icons it installs in AIM automatically, that may not work for an avatar then...
Here's a site I just found: http://www.avatarity.com/index.php?cid=17
You can search by character and resize them if you want, but you need to save the image to your computer and then host it on the web yourself - not sure if you can do that. If you want, you can pick the one you like and I can upload to my space and give you the link...

Well, sometimes if you link directly to an image like than on another server, it will show up as a broken image, you could try it though.

the pic you want as an avatar needs to be 50 x 50 pixels. If it is bigger (most likely) you can go to cs community, and then the thread "general avatar reduction" Post the pic there and someone will reduce it for you. Then they will post the reduced pic. Then right click the new pic, and copy url. Put that url in your avatar url. Hope this helps.

ROFL i just feel really stupid I have no idea how to host in on the web or anything like that.

What do you meen? if you want to post a pic is that what you meen? just put the url to the pic in img tags. like this: ["img"] and end with ["/img"] without the quotes

Well, no, that's not hosting. Hosting is uploading files to your own directory on the net. Like I said, a lot of times if you link to an image that is hosted somewhere else (on somebody else's server) it will appear as a broken image. That's why I offered to host it on my webspace if Necross found an image he liked.

Just switch the [ and the / at the end and you'll have it - the [ comes first

If you can't see it Necross, I'll save it to my computer and upload to my space, and give you the URL for your avatar. Then it should work fine. I can resize it for you too.
I'll be able to do it when I get home tonight.

Damn......why post a ton of avatars that are posted by different people and then not allow people to use them?

You can use them, it's just that you need to save them to your computer and host them yourself. If they had a ton of people linking directly to their images, it would slow their site down greatly.

K just one more question, is there anyway I can change the dimensions of the avatar and if so how? Not just that one, just avatars in general.

You'd need an image editing program - I'll use Photoshop, but probably Paint or something like that would work too.

You could go to the main site for LOTR, they have buddyicons that can be used as avatars . . .
