I just saw "Anger Management" the other day on Cable, and I was looking at some info about it (trivia, goofs, etc.) on IMDB.com

I happened to see that the MPAA Rating is listed as such: Rated "PG-13 on appeal for crude sexual content and language."

Can anyone explain this one to me? And anyone know the story behind this case in particular?

On appeal is where a filmmaker will come in and try to justify getting a certain rating without making any cuts to his film.

In other words, Anger Management was originally handed an R rating, but Peter Segal went in and made some sort of explanation, and the MPAA apparently agreed with what he said and the movie got a PG-13 instead.

Many movies are rated on an appeal, usually to get the very same thing, down from a R to a PG-13.
