What the hell, the whole trillogy if you like,
What are the lines that really made you grin?

Elrond: Onen i estel edain,
Aragorn: chebin estel amin

"Now heres a thing unheard of, an elf will go under ground where a dwarf dare not! I'd never hear the end of it!"

I love the quotes that are straight from the book :)

"Have you learned nothing of the stubborness of dwarves?"

"Theres plenty for the both of us, may the best dwarf win!"

Lots of really good ones. But I think of one of my favorites that I remember off the bat is:

"That counts as one!"

After legolas slayed the oliphant :)

Ok what about smeagol's absolutely thrilling schizo attack in ttt???!!

"Leave now and never come back!"
"What?"
"Leave now, and never come back"
"Arrrggghh"
"Leave now and never come Back!!!"

"We told him to go away, precious, and away he goes! Smeagol is freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

I love it! I cry every time!

And then in rotk...

"it is but a shadow and a thought that you love"

"If i should return, think better on me, father"

"I'm glad you're here with me, Sam, at the end of all things."
I'm so glad they put that in from the book.

in ROTK:

I know I can't carry it, but I can carry you!

Don't you let go.......don't let go...

This is not the first Halfling to have crossed your path.

What were you doing?
Sneaking.

Don't go where I can't follow.

I'm glad you're with me Sam, here at the end of all things.

For Frodo.

a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride Now, Ride Now, Ride For Ruin, and the worlds ending!!!

Was I the only one here that thought Theodens speetch was absolutely spine-tingling....I for one found it more stiring than Aragorns at the Black Gate.

"I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!"
"All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you."
"I'm glad that you're with me Samwise Gamgee, here at the end of all things."
"I will not say 'Do not cry', for not all tears are evil."
"You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring." "Great, where are we going?"
"There's some good in this world Mr. Frodo, and its worth fighting for."
"It is not in your power to deny the return of the king."
"When I return, think better of me Father."
"That will depend on the manner of which you return."
"Stupid fat hobbit!"
And the whole Gollum/Smeagol monologue in TT...
and this scene in this one is awesome....

"Hey, where you sneaking off to?"
"Sne..sneaking? Sneaking? Oh, fat hobbit is always so polite. We guide them, lead them to secret passageways that no one else could find, and they say sneak. SNEAK! Wonderful friends we have here, oh yes my precious, wonderful friends..."
"All right, all right...you just startled me is all. What were you doing anyways?"
"Sneaking."

Hahahaha!!! I love that! Straight from the books!

"I am no man!"
"Of all the pesky hobbits to ever come down the pike Peregrin Took, you are the worst!"
"That still only counts as one!"
"How about side by side with a friend?"
"Dont go where I can't follow! Wake up!"
"Don't you let go!"

Pippin: "Is there any hope, Gandalf? For Frodo and Sam?"
Gandalf: "There never was much hope. Just a fool's hope."

Eowyn: "I am no man!"

Gimli: "Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for?"

Aragorn: "For Frodo." When I saw ROTK the 1st time, this line really made me sob!

Gimli: "I never thought I'd die fighting side by side with an Elf."
Legolas: "How about side by side with a friend?"
Gimli: "Aye...I could do that."

Aragorn: "My friends, you bow to no one." This made me well up soo much the 2nd time I saw ROTK.

I only have one line to mention since all the other ones I love have been mentioned.

I knew I would start crying at the end it was just a matter of when in the end I would start and this line did it for me

"Rosie Cotton dancing...she had flowers in her hair...If I were to ever marry someone...It would have been her!"

Then he started crying and I just lost it. :(

not trying to be picky but remember to insert "old" before the gaffer. It does have a better ring to it that way...

I loved that line as well...it was soo sweet and portrayed the essence of Sam perfectly. And I do seem to remember it from the books, but concerning the Grey Havens instead. Anyone else recall that?

"You cannot always be torn in two, Sam. You will have to be one and whole for many years. You have much to see and to do and to be. Your part in this tale is not over."

"How do you pick up the pieces of an old life, when you know you cannot go back? There are some wounds that will not heal, some hurts that go too deep."

"There and Back Again; A Hobbit's Tale by Bilbo Baggins, and: The Lord of the Rings by Frodo Baggins."

"Well. I'm back"

"I'm glad you're here with me Sam, at the end of all things"

"Rosie Cotton dancing...she had ribbons in her hair. If ever I were to marry a girl, it would have been her. It would have been her."

"No, Mr. Frodo, wake up! Wake up! Don't go where I can't follow."

"Run, Shadowfax. Show us the meaning of haste"

"Arise, Riders of Theoden! Shields shall be shaken, spears shall be splintered. A sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride! Ride now! Ride for ruin, and the world's ending! Death! Death! Death"

"Death is merely another path. One we must all take."

"I would very much like to see my old Ring again, Frodo." "I'm sorry uncle...I lost it." "Did you?"

"I will not say do not weep, for not all tears are an evil."

"Can you recall the taste of strawberries, Mr. Frodo?" "No Sam, I can't recall the taste of food, nor the sound of water. There is no veil between me and the wheel of fire! I can see it now, with my waking eyes..." (arg! Can't remember the rest :()

this is all from memory, so some lines are probably a little mixed up

I think the best line from ROTKis definitely:

"My friends...you bow to no one."

I just like it because of how emotionally powerful it is. Just me though.

Another fave is this exchange between Gandalf and Pippin...

Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. There's another path; one that we all must take. The gray rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and it will change to silver glass, and then you see it.
Pippin: See what?
Gandalf: White shores; and beyond them, a far green country under a swift sunrise.

Gandalf,'Lord Denethor is Boromir's father. It would be very unwise to bring him news of his beloved sons death. Best not to speak of it. And be careful not to mention Frodo or the ring. Or Aragorn, say nothing of him. In fact, its best if you don't speak at all, Peregrin Took. '

Their were several moments in ROTK where I said something like that. One of my LOTR-viewing buddies hasn't read the books, and me and my friends who HAVE read the books kept on prepping for him up for "HER". He didn't know who "SHE" was, so we kept on messing with him.

You shoulda seen him jump when SHE arrived. :D

When they are in Moria Gandalf says,"All WE have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to US." But when you hear it again in Amon Hen, the line is said like this,"All YOU have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to YOU."
