That was a great film. It had a very deep meaning to it but many people I knew thought it was crap, who else thought it was good??

I thought it was good, but when I bought it my scientist aunt and uncle ruined the whole thing. "that can't happen, that's impossible"
they also ruined harry potter, by saying that if they fell off the broom's, they'ed die. I wanted to tell them that brooms also don't fly

I never saw it, but my mom and sister absolutely hated it.

I loved A.I. and it was my favourite movie of 2001(runner-up was Fellowship of the Ring). Teddy is just about the coolest character I've ever seen(when he fell out of the balloon and then ran over the hill with the huge moon in the background it was one of the awesomest and most hilarious moments in cinema history:D ). I felt the film was shot beautifully, scored wonderfully by master composer John Williams and was quite emotional toward the end. I know there are a lot of complaints about the ending but I really liked it. If the movie had ended after the giant wheel fell on the helicopter it would have been a great ending but I feel that what came after worked just as well. It gave me something further to ponder and the most emotional moment in the movie came when I realized that Osment's robot character would only get one day to spend with his mother...and then teddy came and jumped up on the bed and I just lost it:( . Great Film.

The film didn't meet my expectations, but it was ok.

Awesome film. Just purely and brilliantly awesome. In my eyes, one of the most underrated films ever made.

It's a fabulous film. For some reason, the story just appeals to me. Definitely one of my favorites from Spielberg.

IMO, repeat, my own opinion, I felt this movie to be utter Spielbergian slosh. While I can see how the director was trying to tug at the heart strings of his audience, he goes all out and damn near rips them out of your chest. Towards the end I began to snicker (along with a few of my friends, but it wasn't a crowded theatre so nobody was bothered) and, along with many others, I feel that it should have ended at the bottom of the ocean instead of in the alien dreamscape B.S. only Spielberg could summise as an "Ideal" ending.

There were no real groundbreaking ideas in this movie either, not like in his other futuristic and FAR superior movie Minority Report which single handedly renewed my faith in Spilberg. Sadly, A.I. dissapointed me on multiple levels, except for the acting. Damn there was some real good acting in there. Shame bout the overall story.

it was something that could have been great, but was disappointing in the end. the whole dragged out WAY to far. it could have ended 20-30 mins b/f it did and been really good, but pushing it on gives it just ok and worth a view, IMO. i blame spielberg and his having to have his happiness in the end. it was a dark and sad tale from beginning to what should have been the end...then the actual end started...*sigh*

The ending ruined it. So I voted 'it was okay.' Without the ending it would have been a fantastic movie.

Beautiful, awesome film! Gigilo Joe was a great character and the ending was wonderful. It shows what real sci-fi is supposed to be.

I love it. My 3rd favorite film of 2001 after FOTR and The Royal Tenenbaums.

One of the common misconceptions about the ending is that it's too sappy. But when you think about it, it's not. First of all, the tone of the ending may seem sappy, but it is very tragic and somewhat creepy when you think about it. On one hand you have David who loves Monica but his love was never real because it was just his programming. Monica in this scene isn't real either, she's just an artificial imitation of Monica. But this is enough for David and he just goes on acting as if it were her but neither is capable of real love. His purpose is then completed and he shuts down. At the end of all things, humanity is destroyed and all that remains are artificial beings that have no true concept of what love really is.

In my opinion, they couldn't have ended it at the bottom of the ocean. It may have made for a more satisfying ending in terms of "whoa!," but it's not really an ending at all. In fact it's more of a nonresolution than anything. And had it ended at that moment, David would not have fulfilled his purpose and the entire film would not have had a point.

i think the reason why people disliked the ending is not because of it being sappy...rather the time passed as well as the aliens..

Those weren't aliens... they're artificial intelligence. Gigilo Joe foreshadowed that it would happen

I like Rizor's explanation of the ending. It makes the most sense.
