possible spoiler
in the book, after Shelob has had the s*** stabbed out of her Sam decides not to give her a final blow to kill her. Then she like slides back towards her lair and it says something like "whether she lives or dies, this tale does not tell"
wonder if the movie will be like the book where she *slides away* or have sam actually KILL her!

i hope shelob dies because the average person wont understand. And i like it when the audience is excited, and killing a huge spider is exciting. WOunding it is a bit less exciting. Readers of the book would accept it and understand, but nonreaders would want to know what happens to it. Having it just limp off screen after a big fight is kind of weak in my opinion. It will be good either way though

I heard it implied that Shelob would be killed by Sam. That wouldn't be a problem for me, and perhaps works better for film audiences.

I think it would work better too, but it doesn't matter. Oh and by the way Shelob does die. I have a book that is basically an encyclopedia of all tolkiens work and when i got the the word Spider it talked about everysingle spider in anything he has written. It says that after the battle with Samwise that Shelob drags herslef off and does infact die from the impalement.

It would make more sense for Shelob to die in the context of the movies. It makes Sam look that much braver. Of course, we'll find out in 23 days or so.

She will die there is no point in not doing it it adds more of a dramatic affect.

Its called "A Guide to Tolkien's World" or something along those lines, my friend has it at the moment. Also my uncle bought it for me but I am not sure from where. Check out the Barnes & Noble site they will probably have it. This book explains everything in clear ways that don't make it so you have to assume, it comes straight out and says it, so if there was anything you might not have understood this book is definetly for you.

And I think either the ROTK Visual Companion or Weapons and Warfare says that Shelob was "mortally wounded" after she dragged herself off. I can't remember which one said it though.. Oh well I'm sure she'll die on screen anyway.

I hope she doesn't die. It would be more dramatically powerful, if she is so vain (yeah, vain) that she refuses to die and limps off pathetically into her cave. Like, she's just going to sulk and do nothing apart from lick her wounds, and maybe die alone, mourning her own death.
It's better than the "hoo-ha, yay, we killed the *****" end of Shelob that involves Sam killing her.
