that is the worst question. Obviously a chinatown(old) is better than dumb and dumberer(new), but then FOTR(new) is better than battle for the planet of the apes(old) but a good movie is good, bad are bad

He's right, except that the old planet of the apes was a good movie.
Not a very well thought out question.

i was talking about...BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES. maybe you didn't catch the "battle for" part. or maybe you like that movie :)
ah, I did miss that. I'm afraid I've only seen the first and second apes movies, so I can't pass judgment on that one.

I like a little bit of both. While liking films like the Graduate, the Godfather, Taxi Driver and Bridge on River Kwai, I also like films like the LOTR films, Pulp Fiction, Chasing Amy, Star Wars, etc. It's a nice balance of new and old.

I thought it was a fair question,
I like alot of old b&w movies, but i have to say i do prefer the crisp imagery, 5.1 sound, and colour of new movies....
though every movie must be judged on its own, and definately just because its new it doesnt make it a good.

Like everyone has said above it all varies, but if you were to ask which decade had the best films then I would say the `70s.

I think it's pretty evenly matched.

I'd have to agree that a nice mix is the best. Each decade has had it's share of good and bad movies. The problem with past decades (especially 50's and earlier) is that the bad movies are fogotten and only the good are remembered.

I think what he meant to say is "What is better overall? Old movies or new movies," like the entire period.. "Are there more good old movies than good new movies."
Ah, I give up. I don't know what he's asking. :o

i tend to like more newer movies overall, but i do have a few favorite classic movies, such as, gone with the wind, and it's a wonderful life. i don't get the appeal of some older movies though, like i don't get how anyone can stand to watch all those john wayne movies (just my opinion not ment as an insult).

How old is old 70's 80's 90's etc
Godfather 1 & 2 70's
Scarface 80's
Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs 90's
Kill Bill 00's
every decade brings out a classic but i think the 70's was the biggest influence

in general... it really doesn't matter... as long as each movie i expect to see or already saw maintains its taste...
