IN all the matrix films we are always in some city, WHAT FREAKING CITY IS IT! do we ever find out what city?

is it new york?

chicago?

la?

it doesn't really seem to matter.... it's just the matrix. most of the filming was done in australia so it doesn't even necessarily have to be an american city.... I think it's just a generic city with generic jobs for people with generic lives

the bros are from chicago, and there's plenty of chicago references, i believe (street names, etc.). not positive though.

oh yeah, the matrix is an entire world. read the comic books. i can think of one example, where a crew travel to the carribean inside the matrix (R&R)

no i dont think so.....basically it just stood for whatever city u lived in...so that u could imagine it happening wherever u were at the time, makin it a more realistic city.
i think sometimes things r better off not being known.
for instance (sorry for the poor example)but when movies r set in specific cities or places, it often gives them the fake quality, not really lettin u believe it.
but anyway who cares what freakin city its in?

well i think that it mite be a number of different cities in the matrixworld...depending on their mission...e.g to see the merovingian or someone else.. and it ISNT jus one big city...as in the mountains...its based in the city cos THATS WHERE THE PHONES ARE!!!!and they would have better chances of getin away from agents in a city than say..... a JUNGLE or COUNTRYSIDE!!!!right...and the city was given no name...even the wachowskis themselves say that!!!!

If you pay close attention to M1 and M2+M3 you say that on the payphones and even the phonebooks on top of The Oracles refrigerator the city is just known as CITY, not really given any particular name. and i heard somewhere either on one of the bonus features in M1 or M2, that the roads are endless where the Agents can get you anywhere, everything is conneceted(probably by the freeway in The Matrix Reloaded just like someone pointed out before) but obviously the brothers have had influence to put in Chicago references in there. The thinking process of a machine might have led them to make a huge abstract city so to speak, with street names, buildings, people, cultures, landscapes etc. of the entire world just to make it seem "realer." just making guesses here.....

Maybe it's the "loop" thing everyone was on about a while ago.All the roads,highways,trains,etc all go around in a loop.keep going towards west and you'll enter the city from the east.

They did use San Fransisco as all the back city you see on the freeway chase. But I don't think it's suppose to be in any city specifically. They would of shown us some famous building or monument if you were suppose to know.

Most people call it the "Mega-City", but i belive the matrix is just one big city, with mountains on the outside to keep people in.

I thought it was named Capitol City, because that was on Neo's information sheet when Smith interogates him in M1 but hey I could be wrong.

I think it's NYC, because remember when Smith grabbed Neo from the air and rammed him like a bomb to make that huge crater. The building next to where they crashed, isn't that a building from NY

However, I know all the filming was done in sydney.

On that sheet that stage tempest referred to, it says the following which i found ineteresting:
The last amendment or addition to this record was: July 22, 1998.
roughly four months after Trinity's talk with Cypher on the hard line that was traced during the first scene. what was the addition i wonder to his database record.....and it kind of detracts from the theory of the phone booth scene occuring after revolutions, because it shows how fats time moves in The Matrix, that is, the movie itself, the pacing jumped four months ahead, i mean if thats possible so is 19 months from start to finish. but see, i wish this theory was true too, thats why i didnt want to post this, but i have to. its the truth. i wonder if that date means anything significant.

I don't know if this has been said, I only read the first page.

In the Art of the Matrix, part of the Trinity fight in the beginning happens on top of a monorail (or train of some sort), but they deliberately took that out so that it WOULDN'T be identified as Chicago. Also, in The Matrix: Revisited, the huge backdrop they built for the Morpheus interrogation had the Sidney Opera House, but they deleted it and moved buildings around deliberately so that it wouldn't look like Sidney.

I dunno about you, but seems like they're putting an awful lot of effort to make the city unrecognizable.

Yeah well I remembered the post and I noticed the Daily Bugle so guessed the answer was NY so thought about telling people. Although the rest of the DVD calls it Mega City.
