I just watched this classic for the first time, boy what a great film. This movie had everything mystery, suspense and great displays of ambition and control. A definate must see. I have a question to those who have seen this great movie. What was the significance of Abe Lincoln. I was thinking that it may be a contrast of freedom and slavery where Raymond was under the control by his mother and since a slave and Lincoln "freed" them

It is a great film. I loved the contrast between the ladies' floral meeting and the communist meeting. I thought that was really funny. Thumbs up on Sinatra's performance and Angela Lansberry's. She was evil even back then.

Woa! I just mentioned this one in the "best opening scene" board. Glad I'm not the only one that likes this movie! You should also watch The Marathon Man too.

Time to get this rolling now that the new one is coming......

I just bought the special edition of this movie, it's one of my all time favs. Even 32 years after it was made, it's just as cool and suspenseful as it was then. The tagline is right, the less you know the better, but I highly recommend this for anyone. GO WATCH NOW, then play some solitaire.

You mean the one coming out is a remake? I never knew that. It won't do as good as it could because The Village.

I think The Village is gonna disappoint, I'm seeing Manchurian Candidate when it opens.

And I bought the new SE rerelease of the DVD, I'll watch it today.

I watched this again just the other day. Still excellent...

A little trivia: The kung-fu fight between Sinatra and the Korean servant was one of the first karate fights in American movies. It's still an awesome fight...

Yeah, the original is fantastic, what a great ending. I was kinda pissed to hear that their was going to be a remake thought. Why do people always remake movies that are perfect. Oceans 11 i can understand because the original had a good idea, but bad delivery, everything on Manchurian Candidate was great. I feel that if people want new generations watching classics, don't remake them, just put the original trailers in current movies.

What I would totally dig is if they re-released a lot of old movies for the big screen, like Gone With The Wind did a few years back. I would love to see Lawrence of Arabia or Patton in the movie theaters, and personally I think that would be an easy way for the production companies to make tons of easy cash.

I can only imagine what seeing Lawrence of Arabia on the big screen would be like.

Watched it today. Great film, with a stellar cast who all give excellent performances. I felt it was a little slow at the beginning though, since I already knew what the plot was. After the first 30 minutes, it picked up, though.

Lawrence Harvey was fantastic, I want to see Liev Schrieber (someone who looks a bit like Lawrence Harvey) do what he can with the role.

I find it interesting, though, that the Iselins were edited out of the remake.

Mrs. Iselin is still in it, shes just gotten a name change. Now its Eleanor Shaw, played by Meryl Streep. They got rid of the Johnny Iselin character because having a woman senator isn't as uncommon now as it was back then. The Johnny character is irrelavant in this day and age, and without Johnny Iselin there's no need for a Mrs. Iselin, so that's why its Mrs. Eleanor Shaw (she's actually given a first name in this one too). But, in response to the question asked in the first post in this topic, how do I use spoiler tags?

I knew Meryl Streep was the mother, but it was interesting that they made Liev the Candidate instead of Iselin.

You use spoiler tags by surrounding your spoiler with: [spoiler.] and [/spoiler.], without the periods in there.

K, lets give it a try. The references to President Lincoln is a foreshadowing of the assassination that takes place at the end of the movie. Notice that Johnny Iselin dresses as Lincoln at the costume party, and what happens to him in the end? Kinda freaky.
