They pass by Minas Morgul before entering Shelob's lair.

The green light signals to Barad-dur that the WiKi and his army are on their way to Gondor.

It's the cinematic effect. The audience needs to know what's going on, too!

I think you would have to be kinda dumb too see 200,000 orcs marching to MT and not know whats about to happen. Ok like what would they think oh there just going for a walk.

It's directly out of the book though, so what are people complaining about!?
Besides, I think that too many times LOTR fans give too little credit to the cinema going public. Yes many may be pretty stupid and profess to not understanding certain things, but to most people with reasonable inteelligence, that follow the films and pay attention, everything is very clear, and does not need to be dumbed down for the lowest common denominator.

This is so true, the majority of my friends have not read the Lord of the Rings books (yet, I am still trying, damn them and there sort of small attention spans) but they all follow the movie very well. They knew everyone's name and knew what was going on and the parts they didn't understand they were willing to listen to me so I could explain them.
