Let me warn you that the following link will take you to a Christian site where--let's face it--people have lost their minds. My friend told me about this site because of how funny it was to read, but it might surprise you.

Anyways, click here only if you are truly curious. It's what they think about The Two Towers.

There's no way that can be serious in any way, shape, or form. The site has to be a huge joke. Or it's just run by complete morons.

Dude that CAN'T be serious....I mean some of these people are out there but come on...

I swear that this is a completely legit website for the Baptist Church. I know, it's scary to think about.

Go to the homepage and see what other kinds of stuff they talk about.

This is just some site made to offend and the people who run it get off on receiving complaint mail. If bad reviews based on stupid reasons is what you want, go to MrCranky.com This site caters to creating bad reviews for every single movie out there and some of it is quite funny.

That is seriously a very worrying article I just hope it is some type of joke, people seriously cannot really believe that, can they??

People like that give the rest of us Christians an awful, ignorant, and intolerant reputation... I for one see the entire trilogy as a battle between good and evil, and could use a number of actions/characters/events to symbolize a number of things, but never homsexuality or any of the junk that reviewer was spewing...

...that no one has heard of the Landover Baptist site over here.

First...its a parody guys, so relax a little bit. However, it really is NOT that far off some of the more radical elements of christianity and usually what is said on that site CAN be backed up by bible verses in most cases. The whole reason of that site is to poke fun at the ultra-right side of the christian faith; you know, the folks that take geneis literally.

I do tend to think that most of the uber-fundy views of LOTR are relatively positive, as JRRT was a christian and the concepts presented in both the books and the movies are fundamentally good vs. evil; with evil being banished in the end with a lot of sacrifice.

I agree with you Dogbert. I have never been Baptised but I do have a religious side. I believe in god but I don't follow a specific religion. I just plan on being a decent person thoroughout my life. Anyway, I do feel for you. Most of my family is Christian and Catholic and they are all great people. Except my aunt she is one of those extremeists and its terrible. Extremist anything is bad, but it seems to be that extremist Christians are the worst in this country. I feel bad for good Christians who do realize that stuff like Lotr is make believe and is not going to led to devil worship. Btw, I didn't even read the article, it would just infuriate me, I can tell by the posts people have put here.

Of course it's a joke. There are of course, Christian fanatics who would have us believe that Harry Potter is the work of the devil and withcraft, but then there are those who are stupid just because they were born that way.

The grammar and language used suggests some idiot 12 year old wrote that thing, though it was probably an idiot 25 year old with the IQ of a rock. A bunch of morons who want nothing more than to push people's buttons. Just click on the side bar Ad for Betty Bowers. Her "website" lists merchandise, such as T-shirts, saying the following :"Give Bush Four More Years. RUINING AMERICA IS AN EIGHT YEAR JOB."

I mean really. I thought it was hilarious and utterly retarded. I guess they can't help it. It is the land of the free, afterall.

I am really suprised that no one has heard of the Landover Baptist site over here.

First...it is a parody guys, so relax a little bit

I think the writing is geared toward the typical flat-earth fundamentalist. That fits about the IQ level other posters have mentioned. Those people of the "god said it, I believe it, that settles it" mindset.

Those minds are harder to get into than Mordor and make Orcs look like geniuses.

The sad thing is that the far christian right is not all that very far removed from this site. If you want to see an example of just how bad, go here:

Fred Phelps (http://www.godhatesfags.com)

This site IS real. And the man is DEAD SERIOUS. Sadly, this cretin is just 50 or so miles down the road from me.

Turin Turambar

So it's a real site, Lance? My friend gave me the link last night and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I read the article about the sermon for the Bryant case, and my jaw just dropped.

Well, it still is a messed-up site. I bookmarked it and another one just for the occasional laugh.

Lance
10-21-2003, 02:08 PM
Turin: Landover is a parody. It is "close" to reality, particularly the obnoxious fundamentalistic mindset, but IT IS NOT A REAL CHURCH! It is good for some giggles because it frequently goes over the top and sometimes can be downright funny. There is a lot of truth there too, unfortunately.

The Phelps site...sadly enough...is VERY real and the man means EVERY WORD HE SAYS.

Hope this helps!

I just have to say that most christians worry me in the way they think the have to "take back control of the world in the name of God." but they're not all bad... I married one and she and her entire high school read LOTR trilogy and loved the entire book cover to cover(granted her graduating class was like 14 or so but still they christian) not everyone of them thinks that way but the ones who do are quite scary.... i.e. Mr. Phelps

Guys this site is most definitely a parody... Only with reading a couple of lines you realize that the guy is mocking that kind of views. I personally think it's hysterically funny

Come onm isn't this funny: "There are some scenes where the hobbits appear together in one sleeping bag and a lewd discussion about what sinful act led to both their palms AND feet becoming so hairy" God, just relax and enjoy some parody which is completely making fun of obsessed Christians !

There are homosexual undertones in Lord of the Rings. That's very obvious. Sam would love to slip the bone to Frodo. You can see it in his eyes. But there's nothing wrong with that. Hobbit love is still love. ;)

Liz: I think he was talking about Phelps. Who is all too real and all too scary.

The Landover family of sites are funny. Some folks do not think so because those sites can hit a little too close to home from time to time...

No, not funny. The idea is a joke, but I hate to see people and sites like this that borderline on seriousness. People could see this and take the site and its views seriously, or at least see it as a reflection on the entire Christian faith. It's okay to joke about Christians and their beliefs, and I know there's a strong group of radical Christians, but this goes beyond a satire and parody. In fact, this site and the views it presents goes against so many Christian virtues that it's take too long to list them all. But while I know that, many people are ignorant and intolerant (like the makers of this site) and see these things and just go with them.

I would hope that everyone else sees this a joke gone too far...

Besides, the Sam and Frodo joke has been beaten to death, anyway, lol...

Yeah, I sort of agree.

I looked at "woman" and there was an obvious red haired men dressed as a woman with a very funny face on.

They probably should put a thing saying this is a parody, but at the same time, somebody that thinks it's true and goes with it is probably stupid.

No offense to those here!

I agree with everyone who says that these "Christians" are who make the rest of us look bad, especially the extremist right-wing conservatives like Fred Phelps. I may be Catholic, Republican, and conservative, but I'm not stupid. It's disturbing.

Well, I thought the ads kinda showed that it was a parody site, but when I read that sermon about the Koby Bryant case.... Did anyone else read that article? Was that an actual sermon? It's too hard for me to say that it was a joke because a lot of what that article said was flat out screwed up. If it was a joke, it's in very bad taste.

Overall, a lot of that stuff makes me laugh more than cringe though.

I'm pretty sure that that can't be legit. If it was, let me just say this . . . I am a Christian and very set that what I believe is the truth, but it is things like this that give us a bad name. I'm a diehard fan of LOTR and like Harry Potter too - Harry's fantasy. So is LOTR, although to me it also has several Christian themes (Tolkien himself was a Catholic Christian). So for any article to be making claims like that is just ridiculous. I'm sure that it is a parody, but just to let you know there are some of us out there who know why we believe what we believe . . . take care everyone, haha things like this tick me off

Hobbit which is slang for "homo boy with a little bitty penis hanging between his legs." Yeah whatever.

That review was stupid. I didn't find it amusing at all. Though I can understand it was a parody I just cannot even attempt to laugh at it's sheer stupidity.

I didnt find that particular article funny but I found this very funny

"God used to wipe out entire races of people without warning, burning whole towns of perverts, killing off an entire nation of first-borns. He even drown every breathing human on land, born or unborn. Brother Hardwick teaches us that SARS is evidence that "the old God" is back!"

I agree that it was extreme, but if someone actually were to read that and take it seriously then they are the ones with the problem. It is soooooo obviously a terrible, bad, horrible joke. (which IMO made it hilarious) If someone were to believe it they should be taken into a dark alley and shot.
