As much as I hate to bring this subject back I just thought I would share this from
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news.htm
Star Wars: Episodes 7-9: Rumours of George Lucas following up his original trilogy with another down the track have been around for years - some were solid information, most were just wishful thinking. As a result unless something solid comes through on them I'm not touching speculation on the topic with a ten foot pole. Well today came word which whilst not solid, is from an insider source whose regularly provided totally accurate intel so far for over two years on a variety of projects so I tend to take his word for it. If true, its also good news for fans let down by the prequels: "One of my pals at ILM told me a few days back that another trilogy 'might' happen. This is the sequel trilogy that Lucas said he'd never do. It's very very early days yet, but apparently there is some talk, even to the point of Mr Spielberg - who was interested in doing 'Clones' at one point - stepping in for Lucas, who may want to write, but probably won't want to direct. If Lucas doesn't they'll probably work out a deal for say Frank Darabont to pen (ala the current "Indiana Jones IV" arrangement). This one would be the three films following Return of the Jedi, Han Solo, Skywalker, post-Darth etc. How hard of a time are they going to have on their hands getting some of those original players! ha ha! finally a fitting use for CGI hey? The deal is everyone wants the sequels, except Lucas, who is apparently exhausted [Personally I'd say studio pressure]. If Spielberg directs, it could be ok. Better than those terrible prequel movies". Thanks to 'Wookie Walker'.
Hmmm... Garth from Dark Horizons usually doesn't go into meaningless rumours. If this is true, I dont' know whether to laugh, cry, or get excited. Usually when a thread about the infamous sequel trilogy comes up, I just yawn and say "no." But since this comes from a pretty reliable source, I don't know. Deep down in my heart, I hope George hangs it up and moves on. I hope the entire franchise would hang it up after the the prequels. I don't want it to go down the endless path of Star Trek. That is the path to the darkside.

GL said in an interview I watched, that after the prequels he's done. Said if he did another set of films, it would take him into his 70's/80's and that he wants to enjoy and reflect on the last years of his life. Now, would he hand the Star Wars galaxy to another, and let them make them, is another story, however, highly unlikely.

It'll never happen.
People just need to let it go.
And what's with the "studio pressure" crap? Lucas owns Star Wars, not 20th Century Fox, so it's up to Lucas if he wants to make them or not.

I hope they don't make sequels. Whether or not you like the Prequels, you have to admit that there's a story to be told within them. A Sequel Trilogy would be pointless, considering ROTJ pretty much ended the story. Also, it is very unlikely that the entire cast of the original trilogy would come back(especially Harrison Ford).

Thank you! I can never understand why people think there should be sequels. The story concludes with ROTJ. What could they do? Introduce a new, more powerful villain? That would just be cheesy, and would lessen the impact of the Emperor and Vader (it would also cheapen the victory at the end of ROTJ.) Yeah, yeah, I know... they have a lot of mop-up duty to do to get rid of the imperial remnants, but that wouldn't make for a very good series of films (it certainly didn't make for a very good series of novels... ahem...)

George needs a vacation.... a very long vacation and he should take Steve with him. Besides I believe Fisher has had enough with the buns....

In the manner of Sam's proclamation at the end of the ROTK trailer -
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!!!
Much as I am looking forward to EpIII I don't think I could take any more of GL's sequels.

Well people can say that they shouldnt make sequels and that it should end with ep6 but it is a huge galaxy so the story could go on forever. Just like the Matrix movies. If it is done well I dont see a problem with expanding it into another movie or 3. All the nay sayers will probably be drooling monkeys if they do make 3 more and they turn out to be good. You cant say no to a movie that hasnt even been made yet.
Lets see what happens and when they release trailers and pictures and storylines and then you can say "it sux" or "Lucas rules!"

Personally I'm all for seeing these mythical episodes come to fruition. However, I'm not sure how it can tie into the previous trilogies. Its basically a "fall and rise" of one character and his family that fully was told from begining to end. So where to go?
Do they contiue with the offsprings of Skywalker and Solo? Or something entirely different?
Frankly, due to this conumdrum, there will not be anymore movies. However, I can see a CGI movie or even a television Rouge Squadron series being done. Either way, I'm all for more Star Wars!!!!:applaud:

No, it's a fictitious galaxy. Our own galaxy is huge, and therefore un theory every single film ever made could have infinite sequels. After all, the characters don't all vanish after the credits roll. But that's not what film is or should be about.
Hollywood these days is run by accountants though, so we get predictable rubbish being spewd out all the time, until of course that route fails and audience numbers fall, so they ditch it and find another route to getting the most money for their outlay.

Well obviously it is fiction honey. You dont think that I thought that Luke was a real person did you?
My point is that this movie could go on forever. I never said that it should. I am well aware that movies are only made for profit and that once the profit is gone so is the movie series. No need to explain that to anyone here because we all know that movies are just about profit and if we are lucky, maybe 1 out of the 100 made will be worth our $9 per ticket.
As far as every movie being able to go on after the credits, no, you are wrong.
Star Wars had numerous characters and even the story of Luke and Leia could have gone on. Each of them will have off spring and their kids could be the next wave of super Jedi that has to fight new evil forces from the darkside and lead the galaxy (once again I do know this is a fake galaxy) into peace.
You could go on forever and actually make it a good movie series.
You couldnt do this with other movies and actually make them worth $9 per ticket.
I do agree that all movies could continue on forever but they would not be worth seeing or have the ability to carry on the story like Star Wars could.

i would liek to see them, but with the standard of the films way down from the original, it makes me wonder if they will be worth going to

I honestly think the series can go on for another 3 movies w/o over doing it. Just make it more towards adult audiences instead of a stupid movie for kids like Ep1 was. Make it more dark and heinous with a really awesome evil Sith Lord. Not that old pussy Sidious. Mix Vader and Jules from Pulp Fiction and then you got a good Sith Lord. Have him start a whole new wave of evil for Luke's kids to have to battle since they will also be ultimate Jedis as well.
Luke's Son - "I will stop you Darth Jules. No Matter what you have planned!"
Darth Jules - "Say WHAT again mother *****er!"
Luke Son - "What?"
Darth Jules - "God D*mn Jedi! What planet are you from?"
Lukes Son - "What??!?!?!?"
Darth Jules - "What?! What aint no planet I ever heard of! Do they speak Bocce on What??"
This sequence would end with Luke's son getting sliced into three pieces for responding with "What" one too many times.
