Who thinks Milla Jovovich should have played Arwen?

Me personally agree with that a bit - Liv Tyler seems so annoying, especially in the Audio Commentary on FOTR's DVD.

Well who else agrees - i mean, i like Arwen, but her actress seems a little wooden.

And if Milla Jovovich DID play Arwen and her acting was "wooden" would you be saying "does anynone think that Liv Tyler would have made a better Arwen?";)

actually, if it was the other way, you'd be supporting Milla.

I think Liv fits it much better. I love Milla but she is better for movies like the 5th element and Resident Evil. Oh wait lol she did play in them. I see her as more of an action girl not an elf princess. Liv is perfect. I love them both though. :)

Milla Jovovich would've been way better the Liv Tyler. but i hold a biased opinion. IMO Liv Tyler cant act worth a $hit and only has a career because of her daddy. :p

and plus im a huge Resident Evil fan;)

jpdill
10-20-2003, 03:21 PM
You've all grown accustomed to Liv's face as Arwen - and yes, it's true. Liv Tyler wouldn't be anything if she didn't get "daddy" to have a few words with movie executives.

Necross
10-20-2003, 05:19 PM
Well its easy to say that when her father is famous, but I think she can do fine without him. You only use that because you can, you have no other proof that she is a bad actress which she is not. I mean Armagedon was great and her daddy didn't help her there in fact it was HER who got her father to do that song. She is great as Arwen. Milla would not have been. (But I do like Milla)

LOTR is proof that she is a bad actress!;) i cant stand it when she is onscreen. whenever i watch the movies and her scenes are coming up, thats usually when i take a restroom break or get some food.

10-20-2003, 07:18 PM
im sorry guys but IMO her and Viggo have absolutely no onscreen chemistry. it looks so fake when they kiss and cuddle.

I don't really like Liv tyler that much. She's a decent actress at best...i would have like it if arwen was played by someone that was english...i guess maybe i just don't really like her character that much...she was fine in FOTR, but the stuff in TT just totally slows down the movie...

i like them both but I'm use to seeing Liv as Arwen, so I guess I'll never know.
I think Liv does a great job as Arwen , her presences on screen is magnetic, IMO.
Plus, i like the way she laughs in her interviews. i like her laugh. :D
um, i hope you guys don't think I'm weird.

IMO, the stuff with Arwen definetly does not slow down the movie at all. If just goes to show you who real fans are and who is just interested in the action.

Also those who can't act judge. I don't act either, but I don't judge, I see everyone for what they are worth. I tell you people have stupid standards on how an actor is good or bad. Milla would have been the same way as Liv was, for one reason. THE DIRECTOR TELLS THEM HOW TO ACT. So there defiently would have been a post like: Milla vs Some actress. Someone would be posting stuff like I think Milla can't act for $hit. So basically get over, Liv is Arwen and she does a fine job. If you can't appreciate it oh well. All I know is that by me liking her, I get more enjoyment out of the movie because I love it when she is on the screen as much as any other character. Anyone who doesn't like just gets moments of boredom and annyance. So I get the more enjoyable expericence hence, I win!

that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. and you say you dont judge? gimme a break

these scenes werent in the book, and didnt need to be in the movie. they slow it down and ruin the continuity of te film IMO.

ever read the Silmarillion or the unfinished tales? if you have then you just showed how much attention you paid to them and if you haven't then you really probably think that Milla would bring more action to a role that is docile and calm cause, hello.... she's an ELF!

downflow311
10-21-2003, 06:17 PM
no, i think she would bring some acting skills to the role. has nothing to do with what books you read. this is a movie. the problem i have is her and viggo's chemistry is so fake. when they kiss it looks like they only kiss because they have to. its so bland its laughable.

Downflow11 i meant I don't judge the actors. But yes the stuff with Arwen was in the book, haven't you read the appendices? They couldn't just have Arwen pop up in the last movie. Also I am correct about real fans loving everything. What was so dumb about my last post? If you can't stand the scenes between Arwen and Aragorn how can you stand any other tender moment? It slows down the movie? No, it just isn't an action sequence. (Btw, I love the action sequences, I just hate it when people can't appreciate the rest of the movie as much.)

True fans would love all parts? Well, they like the 'entire' movie but hey, everyone has got a favourite part in the books or the movies! Don't see the point in 'all' parts.

IMO, no one can suit Arwen better because yes, we're accustomed to Liv Tyler being Arwen. It's pretty boring to see the Arwen/Aragorn scenes for me, it might pace things out but it's in the appendix of the books!

Their chemistry rocks IMO, maybe because their age gap or something?

Necross
10-22-2003, 09:31 PM
Oh Ryvyan, i don't mean you can't have a favorit part. I mean you can't go throught the movie and go, "Well this parts good, this part sucks, so does this one, but this ones good." Thats whay Downflow is basically saying. I mean he stated he uses those scenes as bathroom breaks. I do have my favorite part and I do agree that Liv Tyler is great as Arwen because we are used to her, but I like her anyway.

yeah it was in the appendices, not the actual story. there are plenty of scenes that dont have any action that i love just as much as helm's deep or amon hen. arwen/aragorn scenes are not one of them though.

and yes i think the age gap has something to do with it. it looks like a father kissing his daughter.

Actually there are no actors I really hate. I only dislike movies, actors can always improve. Also sure the Aragorn and Arwen stuff was in the appendices, but some of the stuff that happened in the appendices occured during the story. Tolkien just didn't put it in the main story. However, PJ had the task of showing what was going on with everyone during the time it was happening. I mean he is not going to have an appendices of movies scenes at the end of the Return of the King, you know what I mean? So he had to show that stuff with Arwen then because she is an important character. She couldn't just pop up in the third and be like," OH I am the love of Aragorn's life btw."

Just one more thing and I really am not being a jerk when I say this, but how can you have a problem with the age gap? Arwen is an elf. She is supposed to look young an beautiful. Aragorn is and 87 year old man. The Aragorn in the movie (which I love) actually looks younger than his age. But I can see your point, just try to look at it from the book and fantasy perspective lol.

Anyone would have been better than Liv Tyler. I think Milla would have been awesome now that I think about it. She would have come from a different angle rather than the 'look at me I'm a fairy princess' thing that Liv has going on.

Can someone explain to me who Milla is as i`ve never heard of her???

Liv is great in my opinion and the scenes between Arwen and Aragorn are some of my favourites in the films especially those in FOTR. I guess its a girl thing dont get me wrong I love the action scenes in the films like Helms Deep and I think its only natural that some parts some of us dont enjoy as much as others (mine being most of the Moria scens in FOTR I know lots of people love these scenes).

I`ll admit I love the *quieter* scenes The additional footage in the EE of FOTR are mostly my favourite parts of the film now like the gift giving scene.

We are all different but we all (hopefully) have something in common we all love LOTR and cant wait for ROTK even if we are maybe are looking forward to diffrerent parts (bet u cant guess what scenes i`m looking forward to lol).

It doesnt matter as long as we all enjoy it!!

Milla Jovovich is the most beautiful womanin the world IMO

Her best role was as Leeloo in the great movie "The 5th Elemnt"
But her most mainstream role would be in resident evil

i actually agree with you there omega. Milla is defintely tougher and a better actress IMO.

Ryvyan
10-25-2003, 02:10 PM
Hmm if you follow the books, Arwen is not supposed to be 'tough'... Depends on how you look at it, I guess.

If going by PJ's version of Arwen saving Frodo and going into Rivendell, well, I still think she's done a pretty decent job.

downflow311
10-25-2003, 02:52 PM
but in the movies she is kinda portrayed that way, especially the whole if you want him come and claim thing. which is a great line and liv delivers it well enough, i just find her performance very bland and uninteresting. especially when compared to the other characters in the trilogy.

Necross
10-25-2003, 03:48 PM
She is only portraited like that for one part. Arwen's true nature is kind and gentle, but even someone like that can be tought when need be. She is not meant to be portrayed as tough for the entirety (sp?) of the movies.

10-25-2003, 06:08 PM
