i was just wondering for curiosity sake what you think pj is getting paid for lotr. i wonder if he got a base salary or a percentage.

personally i think that he got a percentage. new line was unsure about the movies so they probably paid him depending on the success of the movies.

that would be alot of money....

Trust me...

PJ is being well compensated...

I don't really think he did this for the money anyway....

The entire LOTR Cinema project was his 'labor of love'....

Somewhere I read he got 10% of the gross, but I have no idea where that came from, sorry. I think there are websites that track this sort of thing; you could probably do a search on "hollywood salaries" or something like that and find out a bit more...

I read the 10% figure but for King Kong....

I'd say PJ got about 5% for the LOTR motion picture trilogy. It may not be much in terms of the overall gross of the movies, though that amount of money could still pay for ample acting lessons for Billy Jackson. :D

Negative -- I'm reasonably sure PJ, Fran, and Phillipa are splitting a 20% deal on King Kong.

Not necessarily. Often times, if someone is on a profit sharing plan, that's ALL they'll get -- after all, why would you need more? There's no better way to reward someone for their work than to give them a percentage of its success. Kind of a good motivator to do a good job. However, when the contract is signed, the studio may give the person in question a forward on their salary.

For example, Keanu Reeves gets 15% of the GROSS from Reloaded / Revolutions (kind of ridiculous, huh?). He was given $30 Million against his salary before shooting began, meaning now that the movies are out he'll get his money minus the $30 mil he was fronted beforehand.

you would think that with his money, he would get a haircut and shave but that's just me.

I also think Peter Jackson was not in this for the money either. If he was they probably wouldn't have filmed all three at the same time. That was a huge risk, a 300 million dollar one and if money was the big thing, they would have waited to see how good the first one did, but they didn't which shows that money was not the prime directive for Peter Jackson. I get so mad at people who say its only for money. How do they know? I am sure most of us diehard fans would do it out of love for the trilogy, I think Peter is the lucky diehard fan who gets too. Not to mention Christopher Lee said it was his dream come true. He always wanted to be a part of the Lord of the Rings movies. He reads the books every year.

Lee wanted to be Gandalf, but was happy to be Saruman
