Just wondering what everyone's 3 favorite quotes are from FOTR, TTT, and the Return of the King trailer???
glecoq
10-06-2003, 12:20 AM
mine would be: FOTR: "He's one of them rangers, dangerous fold they are wondering the wild, dont know what his right name is, but around here hes known as strider." That entrance of a charecter was the most amazing ive ever seen. TTT: "I bring word from Elrond of Rivendell. An alliance once existed between Elves and men. Long ago we fought and died together. We come to honor that allegiance. We are proud to fight alongside men, once more."

are you meaning the 3 trailers, or just the trailer for ROTK as well as the film of FOTR and TTT
for me, too many quotes to choose from, but i do like the ones from above, and from the ROTK trailer
"I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.......this day, we FIGHT!" Aragorn
But we can give Frodo a chance
glecoq
10-06-2003, 01:03 AM
yea, i was just talking about what we have seen so far for ROTK, and then the two movies... From ROTK so far, I like, "Is there any hope gandalf, for frodo and sam?" "There never was much hope...just a fools hope."

The "classic" one:
"I wish the ring had never come to me...I wish none of this had happened."
"So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
glecoq

i agree also like your signiture quote

There are so many, but here are mine:
From FOTR:
(I have 2 favorites)
"It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing."-Boromir
"Always remember Frodo, the Ring is trying to get back to its master. It wants to be found." -Gandalf
From TTT:
"If Aragorn survives this war, you will still be parted. If Sauron is defeated and Aragorn made king and all that you hope for comes true you will still have to taste the bitterness of mortality. Whether by the sword or the slow decay of time, Aragorn will die. And there will be no comfort for you, no comfort to ease the pain of his passing. He will come to death an image of the splendor of the kings of Men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world. But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. Here you will dwell bound to your grief under the fading trees until all the world is changed and the long years of your life are utterly spent."
-Elrond
(Amazing scene/quote)
From the ROTK trailer:
(I have two fav.)
"The end has come."- Elrond(the way he delivers his lines is great)
"I see in your eyes, the same fear that could take the heart of me......A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and brake all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day...this day, WE FIGHT!!!"

From The Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring
Sam: I made a promise, Mr Frodo. A promise. Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee. And I don't mean to. I don't mean to.
Frodo: It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill him when he had the chance.
Gandalf: Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play yet, for good or ill before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many.
Frodo:I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf:So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought.
Bilbo:I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
Gandalf:You cannot pass! I am a servant of the secret fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun. Go back to the Shadow. YOU SHALL NOT PASS!
Frodo:Come on Sam... Remember what Bilbo used to say: It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to...

From The Lord of the Rings:The Two Towers
Théoden: A great host, you say?
Aragorn: All Isengard is emptied.
Théoden: How many?
Aragorn: Ten thousand strong at least.
Théoden: [astonished] Ten thousand?
Aragorn: It is an army bred for a single purpose, to destroy the world of men.
Théoden: Let them come.
Frodo: I am Frodo Baggins, and this is Samwise Gamgee.
Faramir: Your bodyguard?
Sam: His gardener.
Gandalf the White:The battle of Helm's Deep is over. The battle for Middle Earth is about to begin.
Gandalf the White:Gandalf? That was what they used to call me. Gandalf the Gray. *I* am Gandalf the White. And I come back to you now -- at the turn of the tide.
Gollum: [singing] The rock and pool, is nice and cool, so nice for feet! I only wish,
[he whacks the fish on the rock]
Gollum: to catch a fish,
[another whack]
Gollum: so juicy sweet!
Frodo: I can't do this Sam.
Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding on to Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.
Gandalf the White: [To Grima] Silence! Hold your forked tongue behind your teeth! I did not pass through fire and death to bandy crooked words with a witless worm!
Théoden: Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow; The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.

From FOTR -
Galadriel: I amar prestar aen. The world is changed. Han matho ne nen. I feel it in the water. Han mathon ned cae. I feel it in the earth. A han noston ned gwilith. I smell it in the air.
(I'll never forget hearing those words for the first time...)
Merry & Pippin:
Hey, ho, to the bottle I go!
To heal my heart and drown my woe
Rain may fall and wind may blow
but there still be
many miles to go.
Sweet is the sound of the pouring rain
and the stream that flows from hill to plain.
Better than rain or rippling brook
is a mug of beer inside this Took!
Merry: It was a shortcut.
Sam: A shortcut to what?
Pippin: Mushrooms!!
(Great line for fans of the book!)
From TTT -
Pippin: Don't talk to it, Merry. Don't encourage it.
Theoden: Now for wrath, now for ruin, and the red dawn! Forth Eorlingas!!
Easterlings: BLAH! BLAH BLAH BLAH!! (I don't know what they're saying but it sounds so damn cool! :) )
From ROTK -
Eomer: Ride now, ride for ruin, and the worlds ending!!
Eowyn: Whatever happens...stay with me.
(Something about the way she delivers that line really gets to me...you can really hear her fear AND courage. She's concerned for Merry, but in a way also doesn't want to be alone.)

Aragorn: I would have followed you to the end...into the very fires of mordor
Boromir: this isnt a mine...its a tomb
Frodo: Mordor Gandalf, is it left or right
Gimli: Dwarf doors are invisible when closed
Gandalf: Yes Gimli, even their own masters cannot find them if their secrets are forgotten
Legolas: Why doesn't that surprise me
Gandalf: A balrog, a demon of the anchient world, this foe is beyond any of you...run
Boromir: My father is a noble man, but his rule is failing, and our people lose faith. He looks to me to make things right, and i would do it. I would see the glory of gondor restored....Have you ever seen it aragorn? The white tower of ecthelion, glimmering like a spike of pearl and silver. Its banners caught high in the morning breeze...have you ever been called home by the clear ringing of silver trumpets?
Aragorn: i have seen the white city...long ago.
Boromir: One day, our paths will lead us there, and the tower guard shall take up the call, for the lords of gondor have returned."
aragorn not answering to the last part of this conversation makes it just that much better, as if he still has doubts in what boromir is saying
Celeborn: Every league you travel south, the danger will increase. Mordor orcs now hold the eastern shore of the Anduin. Nor will you find safety on the western bank. Strange creatures bearing the white hand have been seen on our borders, seldom do orcs journey in the open under the sun, yet these have done so...<you are being tracked>
I like how celeborn says the last line in elvish.
So, what does everyone think of the above lines?
Gimli: "No one tosses a dwarf!"
and the follow up: "Toss Me" Slight pause, "Don't tell the elf."

Arwen: "Why do you fear the past? You are Isildur's Heir, not Isildur himself. You are not bound to his fate."
Aragorn: "The same blood flows within my veins. The same weakness."
Arwen: "Your time will come. You will face the same evil, and you will defeat it." Elvish, although I'm not sure it's accurate: "The Shadow does not hold sway over us...not over you...and not over me."
Bilbo: "The 22nd day of September, in the year 1400. Bag End, Bagshot Row, Hobbiton, Westfarthing, the Shire. Middle-earth, the third age of this world." I love this line because it puts everything in perspective for me. Ultimately, the Hobbits are fighting for their way of life.
Boromir: "It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing." Chilling line, huh?
And more Boromir:
Boromir: "The world will come to darkness, and my city to ruin!"
Aragorn: "I do not know what strength is in my blood, but I swear to you, I will not let the White City fall...nor our people fail."
Boromir: "Our people. Our people. I would have followed you, my brother...my captain...my king."

Damn you Queen Arwen lol. I wanted to post Sam's speech from the Two Towers. It was the BEST speech I have ever heard. I guarantee Tolkien would have loved it! Along with Aragorn's speech in the Return of the King and I can't wait to hear Theoden's.

I loved FOTR, but when I saw the EE then I couldn't stand watching the theatrical cut any more. Everytime I watch FOTR, it HAS to be the EE.
Jedi, would you say the same thing about TTT EE? Does it just make a better movie? Can you give any hints as to deleted scenes that we don't already know about?

Yeah, there is a scene where Treebeard is telling a poem, I believe it is about the history of the ents, he talks so darn slow they fall asleep. Another is at Isengard, he puts them down to go into the storeroom.
Also, here is a quick correction. I said the forbidden pool was extended, I mean the WINDOWN OF THE WEST was extended. FORBIDDEN POOL remains the same in the EE.

im so glad that that part from the book is going to be extended in the movie. I thought the parts with Faramir and frodo were one of the most important parts of TTT, and thought that the movie didn't quite fullfill it, hopefully the EE will.

From what i have heard about the TT EE (i have not seen it yet), the flashback will be one of my favorite scenes, and the line by Boromir,
"Remember today little brother. Today, life is good!"
will be one of my favorites. I think that sean bean will do a tremendous acting job during that speech.
