Ok, why did Jennifer Connelly win the oscar for best SUPPORTING actress for A Beautiful Mind when she was the only actress in the movie, pretty much. There was no other actress in there to take the title of lead actress over her. Heres what I think, its no coincidence that Halle Berry, Denzel, and Sidney all won an oscar and are all blacks. Now I am not a racist but Im just saying that they wanted to make this big night for them. Otherwise why is Jennifer Connelly given best supporting actress. Now I hope I didnt come off racist or anything and if I did Im sorry. Before I typed this I had it worded better in my head to make a better argument and it probably came out a little different then I intended. Any thoughts?

True Connelly was the only actress, but the role was still supporting.

the category is "Best actress in a supporting Role"

not best number 2 female character in a film.

Kind of like when Kevin Spacey won his "Best actor in a supporting role" for The Usual Suspects. His character supported the film-he was not the focus of the story, so he didn't get the Best actor, but he did deliver a super performance that helped make the film

Along the same lines, why did Anthony Hopkins get Best Actor in Silence of the Lambs? He was only in like 15 to 20 minutes of it and I'd argue Scott Glen's character was the leading actor.

Ok I can understand all that. But do yall think that its a coincidence that on the same night that they give the honory or life time achievement award to Sidney that its the same night that Halle and Denzel win also. Im just saying I think that the Academy did this on purpose to make it such a great night at the Oscars.

i ahven't seen Monster's Ball, so i can't say much about that, but i can say that Denzel did do damn well in Training day, and i think that the performance he gave was worthy of that oscar. about sidney, he's one of the film greats, and the academy give out those honorayr oscars every year, and he had obviously met the academy's criteria to achieve one. i think that it's just a coincidence

even if she was like the main female character in the film, but the character she plays is only supporting that would not make the character she played a main character in the movie, just a supporting character. therefore she should have been up for the supporting role. sissy spacek may have had the same amount of screen time as jennifer connelly, but spacek's character was clearly one of the leads in the movie.
