The report by the guy from Fox News about the 20 minutes seems pretty encouraging. I don't know about you guys, but I want that oscar! Or rather, I want Peter Jackson to get that oscar . . .

How important is it to all of you?

I think its important that this film gets recognize, I want the film to win, I want to see Peter Jackson going up that stage, he deserves it! Even if the film doesn't win Best pic, I hope they give Best Director to him, I just don't see how he can't win at this point.

Here's the actual article:

Third 'Lord of the Rings' Film Unveiled

Early last evening I got to see about 20 minutes of "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," Peter Jackson's third and final installment in his epic rendering of the Tolkien books.

As we could have predicted, the scenes a few of us had the pleasure of screening were top-notch, indicating that Jackson and the folks at New Line Cinema will go boldly into this year's Oscar race with every intention of winning.

And why not? "Return" looks amped for success. We saw about five completed sequences. A couple of them involved Frodo, Sam, and Gollum. Two others were impressive, expansive battle scenes. We got a look at Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Bernard Hill and Hugo Weaving — as well as at Elijah Wood and Sean Astin — in full regalia.

One thing that jumped off the screen right away: Howard Shore 's terrific score seems even better used in "Return." And Jackson has grown even more accomplished with his special effects and CGI.

One battle scene in particular, which starts with about 500 extras and then pulls back to an army of computer-generated thousands, will be quite stunning on the big screen.

Will "Return" finally earn this group some well-deserved Oscars? In all likelihood, Jackson is the front-runner for Best Director, certainly, a nod to the enormous achievement of these three films. And this year, maybe for the first time, Hill, Astin, and a couple of the other actors will be up for Best Supporting slots.

I'm told, by the way, there's a chance all three "Lord of the Rings" movies will play in theatres this January about a month after "Return" has its own debut. A special week like this is already in the planning stages for New York. It's a great idea. Count me in.

I believe that ROTK will take about 7-11 awards, including Best Picture, and Best Director. Hey I hope it sweeps the whole damn thing. As for noms, I predcit about 13,14,or 15 noms

PsYkOoOoO

i dont think it will sweep...not that its not good enough..its just that it is a trend nowadays...no movies get more than 5 or 6 awards...this year and last...

I'm VERY encouraged by his reports of the score...I hope it sweeps me off my feet!

And it's VERY important to me that ROTK and PJ get those awards that the Academy has been remiss in giving them. What the heck, people? Do you think they're blind?

PJ deserves it, and if ROTK is good, he is guranteed to get the oscar, and BP, and ROTK will get many others too

you watch- it'll go to something like Seabiscuit.
Countless years have I watched the Oscars, only to find myself screaming at the TV like an overweight middle-aged man yelling at a football game.
Too many years have certain great films been absolutely raped of the merits they deserve.
A Beautiful Mind? over Fellowship?!?!? Come on!!!! Who's going to remember that movie 10 years down the road? Who even remembers it now?!?!?

So in conclusion, I hope it'll be a close race between ROTK and Matrix: Revolutions.

as long as the movie gets best pic and best director...im fine if it doesnt get anything else

Glordreen

yes, those two are the ones that really matter.

PsYkOoOoO
10-04-2003, 11:55 PM
coz i know it will definitely not get best score..since there's a damn rule that you cannot use the asme material frm previous films in this score...

The Moose
10-05-2003, 12:13 AM
which is damn unfair, as the score will blow all the others out of the water, and it won't be able to be nominated

PsYkOoOoO
10-05-2003, 12:20 AM
unless shore compose a totally new score which is impossible...

The Moose
10-05-2003, 12:26 AM
i agree. that would also be stupid, as quality would be comprimised, due to the short time span, and some cool themes, lilke Rohan and so forth wouldn't be there. they are cool

F**k Oscars...i dont really mind if the effects crew dont get the award..after all they already won it twice...maybe adapted screenplay?i dont see any of the cast being nominated for acting awards...not to mention winning it...but you never know...julia roberts won...

if anyone from LOTR gets it, I'd guess it'd either be Ian McKellen or Elijah Wood (depending on if his performance really is as intense as he claims it to be)

The Moose

what about Viggo? sean astin has done really well, and i would like to see him get one for supporting actor

Is there any info of the 20 minutes that reporter saw?

Seabuscuit is the same tear-jerking Disney garbage that wins all the awards every year. Well guess what? ROTK has feel-good moments too, but it doesn't get considered. Two Towers was not Oscar-worthy IMO, although it was a very good movie. FOTR was worthy, and they got screwed.

Lord of the Rings has been a 5 year project, and if PJ or ROTK does not get acknowledged, then the legacy will have a huge asterisk next to it. "It was one of the greatest trilogies to ever grace the screen.... but it never won the Oscar."

the truth is that if anyone gets nominated for an acting award...it will only be a supporting actor or actress award...because there is no main character in the movie..although you say the story is centred around frodo but then again...the screentime is equally divided amongst the cast

I, as well as countless others will be in utter confussion and disgust if PJ does not get Best Director.

not necessarily true....take Nicole Kidman for example: She won best actress for the Hours and Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep were in the film no less than she was and they were both only nominated for supporting. It was only because the movie was about Virginia Woolf, who Nicole happened to be playing, that she was considered "lead."

It's got nothing to do with how many characters a film has, or how much screen time they have. It's an entirely selective process taken by the studio.

Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor in 1991 for less than 16 minutes of screen time as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence Of The Lambs.

In 'The Hours', both Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep could have been nominated for Best Actress, but the studio felt they had better chances in the supporting role.

Well, if one of the characters gets a nomination, I sure hope they win. I think it's possible if they do an excellent job.

I really hope Sean Astin gets a supporting actor monination. I think he strongly deserves it. And hopefully ROTK will win Best picture, and best director at least.

Ian McKellen will probably be the one nominated for Best Supporting. And I really do think PJ will take the best director award this year. He deserves it more than any other.

The Moose

that's another possibility of someone who could be nominated for best supporting actor

if Miranda otto does really well, anyone think that she could get a nom for supporting actress?

MIGHT...but think about it...i dont think her role will be really big and of much different between her character in TTT and ROTK...

I think Viggo will be nominated for "Best Actor" since the movie is called Return of the King.It makes sense right?

Glordreen

Yes its called Return of the King, but this is Frodo & Sam's story as well as Aragrons, but I would love it if Viggo or Elijah was nomed for Best Actor
