REVIEW: Some guy talks about the (in his opinion) less than stellar trailer!!!!

Tut mir leid, dass ich mehr sagen kann,aber es gibt da diese eine Klausel im Vertrag ... Gesehen habe ich ihn uebrigens im Kino, da wir am Freitag die monatliche Vorfuehrung unserer fertigen Effekte des Vormonats hatten (immerhin eine halbe Stunde lang!) und als Extrabonus gab es den Trailer vorneweg.



Translation:

For me a trailer has to wet the appetite for a flick, flash some high marks and deliver a nice speed, so the audience doesn't get bored. FOTR and TTT did that in their main trailers, supported by really good music (loved that track from Requiem for a dream). The trailer for ROTK didn't do it for me. It's meandering, going nowhere, until finally the end credits do appear. The music does its part of the damage.
I'm sorry I can't say more than that, but there's this one clause in my contract ... And BTW, I saw it in a theatre, because on Friday we had a showing of our finished effects of the month before (worth half an hour!) and the trailer as an added bonus beforehand!

Everyone calm down...from the looks of things his main problem was with the music. I actually had counted on a not-so-exciting music theme for this trailer. I'd think they'd want to emphasize the emotional impact of this film in the preview, which makes sense since it is the culmination of the triliogy. Look at the music we had with the ROTK preview on the TTT DVD: It wasn't very *exciting* but it let the work itself shine more powerfully. I think the trailer will work similarly. In the TTT trailer the music ruled the preview, rather than the footage. Maybe it'll be a nice shift of focus. And we know the movie itself will have a killer score (it always does) so why worry bout the sample provided in the trailer?

I was not expecting a lot from the trailer for 1 reason....they don't want to give too much away. If they really show us anything beyond the most innocuous images it would. I am expecting lots of facial shots of the main chracters, some army shots, not much more than that.

If it's really badly edited, or has crap music, then THAT is a bad trailer. Or, if it just has like a minute of titles, then maybe one shot of a character giving a line, then the film logo, then that is a crap trailer.

This one will not be a crap trailer. It might not be as good as the other Rings trailers, but it'll still be pretty good, you know it.

OK, I really, really don't care if the trailer is bad. At least it's out there. And knowing me and a bunch of other LOTR-obsessed freaks, I'll still be watching it EVERY SINGLE DAY because it's ROTK. And as someone pointed out earlier, the marketing company cuts it, not PJ and the editors.

OK, Now that the 48 hours is up.

My one of my "friends," invited me over to his home and showed it to me. He/she also said that in couple day there would be an official release reguarding the trailer being in theatres and debuting on line, which is how I came up withe 48 hours thing you might all remember. That was that...


Also, guys here is an announcement: All copies of the trailer should now be in and at their respective theatres, so if you are feeling lucky, you might consider going to the late showing of SH_L. You just might get an early treat.

First off, yes it was close to all new footage. There is a little footage we have seen, but it compliments the new footage.

I think the trailer rocks, one of things I think is awesome and I told downflow311 this, is that the dialouge you hear in the trailer is great. Espceially if you are a fan of the book, by hearing these lines by Gandalf and others, the story takes shape in your mind. The battle scenes are exploxive. The glimpse of shelob is something to behold.I think it will give you chills, IMO.

Just a quick point on Harry Knowles PsykoOoOo, he definitely wouldn't steal any such info. He's was on set during the original shooting and became friends with PJ. He had 1 of his his colleagues attend some of the re-shoots this Summer (there was to be a series of reports back then, but they were embargoed after threats from other media outlets concerning non-disclosure agreements they had etc). Anyway, his site may not be the easiest to use, and the writing can ge t a bit 'fanboyish', but he's definitely the 'real deal'.
