In the ROTK preview we all saw, did anyone else notice Pippen holding a hurt Merry out on the battlefeild with Gandalf in the backround?? Am I wrong, or wasnt Pippen not involved in the Battle at Penellor Feilds??? Could this be something the movie has changed from the book, cause it looks to me like there is a great battle going on in the backround in that clip. Just curious to what everyone else thinks.....

NO, i just watched it, its either Rohan or Gondor soldiers, it is Gandlaf in the back but i am almost possitive it is not Merry and Pippin.

I've watched that part closely and I'm pretty sure that it's Merry holding Theoden after the battle with the witch-king. Origianlly I thought it was Eoywn holding Theoden, but Eowyn doesn't have an elvish cloak. Pause it and look VERY carefully, especially at their clothes...if you know the book you'll figure it out.

I highly doubt that is Merry holding Theoden, unless Theoden found some youth potion and Merry sliced off Pippins face Lecter style and put it on his face

I'm almost positive it's Pippin holding Merry. You can tell that it's Pippin because of his Gondorian helm, Merry wouldn't be wearing that. And the Rohan soldier is definately Merry.

Personally I agree with Phil_Parma... It does look like Pippin and it does look like Merry hes holding, screaming.

I also think that it is Pippen holding Merry on the battlefield. I thought for a while that it was Merry holding Theoden but I noticed that there was indeed no facial hair on what would be Theoden not to mention that there would have also been an inconsistency in the book with Gandalf standing there. Theoden would have already been dead well before Gandalf and Pippen's arrival.

I agree with you guys now. I think it's Pippin holding Merry. I know it doesn't happen in the book, but Gandalf isn't out fighting on Pellennor when Merry is wounded either, so it's probably just a small thing they've changed. It would be a welcome addition in my mind.

i see the guy on the ground and i look at it ova and ova again, and it still does not look like Merry on the ground. the guy above looks like Pippin, but i just cant see the resemblence between merry and the guy on the ground. I agree it probly is wut u say it is but i dunno.

Here is the picture, it should show that the the man hurt does NOT look like Merry at all in my opinion, but i still think theres a chance it may be merry and pippin.

It DOES look like Pippen and Merry. That Rohan guy is wearing the frickin cloak of Lorien as well.

yes the guy above looks like Pippin BUT the guy laying on the fround doesn NOT look like Merry in the least. I agree that the guy above is Pippin but the laying down guy doesnt look like Merry in the least.

well i dont think that guy holding the screaming dude looks like pippin...however that guy has got to be him...with the lorien cloak and stuff...thats not merry though...definitely...

It just doesnt make sense tho that it would be Merry, i mean would he be badly hurt becuz he wasnt in the book was he, i mean he looks like hes in a ton of pain if it is Merry. But if is, will they kill him off there? We wont no if its Merry for sure until December.

Yes merry gets hurt, damnit. Merry gets hurt badly while killing the Witch King. And besides, who else could Pippen hold up like that? Pippen is 3 foot 7 I'm guessing, do you think he'd be able to hold up a 6'6 Rohan rider?

the person being held doesn't have the beard that theoden has, so i doubt that it is him. however, what caught my attention was the shape of the face of the person doing the holding. the chin is shaped very much like Eowyn's chin, so it could be her, but i am not sure about this. but i don't think that it is pippin holding the person. in my opinion, it is Eowyn( going by the name Dernhelm, and i think this also because gandalf is there, and he sorta seems to be stopping any orcs getting over to the peoplt behind him, which is understandable for a major character, like eowyn

This thread seems to have sprung up just after the talk of the trailer was dying down.

Anyways, I don't mean to sound abrupt or anything, be this was discussed over and over on this and all the other LOTR sites when the preview was put on the internet. It is definitely, positively, 100% Pippin holding Merry, most likely on the Pelennor Fields (although there's a small chance it could be at the Morannon).

So I guess they will make Pippen a part of the Battle if thats during the battle, right after Merry gets hurt. I hope they dont somehow make Pippen be apart of the witchkings death....that was a real defining moment for Merry in the books.

nevermind im wrong. i looked at it full screen and in slo-mo and the facial characteristics of the guy screaming on the ground are similar to Merry's. so yeah its pippin holding merry.

ok. so it is merry and pippin, but why is he injured? could this be when merry tries to kill whatshisface at pelennor and they just put in pippin for effect

It's not too far of a deviance from the book. Pippen DOES find Merry after the battle.....

Merry does get injured doesnt he, he almost dies as a result of killing the Witch King, which seems to only get worse after he loses feeling in his arm.

It's definitly Merry and Pippen because they both have on elven cloaks. I think this is the scene brock is talking about, I don't think PJ would ruin the book for dramatic effect.
