Has anyone seen the preview for this? I just saw it last night, when I went to see the Pirates of the Carribean. I had seen a thing on ESPN about 6 months to a year ago, about this person called radio. I can't remember if on the show they mentioned that they would be making a movie about him or not(I think they may have, but I had totally forgot about it).
But it didn't take me long to put two and two together that this was a movie about the man called RADIO.
The director and writer are not veterans, nor do they have any GREAT films under their belt. But Ed Harris and Cuba Gooding Jr. deffinitely make you think that this could be something very special. As long as it isn't too overly sappy, if it is handled right, this could be a very good movie...

I saw a trailer for this movie and I seriously couldn't hold my drink in my mouth. It was just hilarious, and clearly not meaning to be. I don't really like these "against the odds" hollywood formulaic movies. Most of them are manipulative and cliche and seem to exist purely to win Oscars.

I dunno, but I didn't find it funny at all. Perhaps because I had prior knowledge of the story and the man called Radio, or maybe just because I don't like to laugh at retarded people.
As far as it being formulaic, that is one thing I fear. And with a very inexperienced director(Michael Tolin-"Summer Catch","Cousin Skeeter" (1998) TV Series , Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream (1995) , Hardwood Dreams (1993)), and a very inexperienced writer(Mike Rich, who's only work includes "The Rookie", and "Finding Forrester") you have to wonder.

I was kind of thinking the same thing, or atleast thinking that he's got a pretty good role here(lately he's been getting some pretty sorry roles). I'll have to wait til I see it, to judge its worth, though.

it will probably be a battle between Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean), Tobey M (Seabiscuit) and Cuba Gooding Jr.(Radio)

its about a mentally retarded man(played by Cuba Gooding Jr.) who kind of becomes the mascot of a small town and its highscool/hs football team. its the story of this man called Radio(he really likes the radio, or always has one with him, something like that...), and his relationships with the people of the town, but most importantly with the town's hs football coach. Based on a true story...

can i just point out that cuba gooding jr hasnt made a good movie in a long time (rat race was quite funny despite crappy ending) and neither has ed harris for that matter so them two being in it does not fill me with joy

Ed was in Pollack(directed it too) not too long ago, I guess you missed that one...I do agree though, that for the most part, these two men haven't been doing great work as of late, but they do have it in them...

Depp wont be there I suppose. Maybe Cuba(gotta judge when I see the film). Maybe Tom Cruise will be there if "The Last Samurai" is any good.....

I dunno, and I hate to judge something before it comes out, but Cruise as the last samurai, just seems lame

If Cruise doesn't get up there, maybe R. Crowe for Master and Commander. Judging by the trailer, it looks like oscar material......

Try acting mentally retarded or any other type of mental handicap without giggling like a school girl. It's a very hard type of role to pull off, and only some of the time it's successful.....
