Spider-man 2 - 10/10

Holy ****! This movie rocked! What I loved about it is that it wasn't too different from the first one, it was just different enough. The action scenes were amazing. But what I really loved about the movie was the characters. As with the first one, they really are the backbone of the movie. I ate up every bit of it.
Story wise, I loved how it was directly entwined with the first movie, unlike something like X2, this didn't feel like a restart, but a continuation of a story.
Mad props go out to the cast! Tobey Maguire gave an eye-poping performance. It was a little tough to watch Spidey/Peter have to go through all the things he did, but Maguire made you want to stick with him all the more through out the movie.
Kirsten Dunst was just as pretty and conflicted as ever as Mary Jane.
And last but not least, let me just say, Hello! to James Franco's performance. He was absolutley excellent as Harry, just an amazing performance. Whoever says any of those three actors can't act is either drunk or stupid, or both. I would have liked to see a tad more of Dock-ock as a character but he still left his impression on the film.
Over all, just a great film.

While I didn't give it such a high score, I'm a bit pleased to see someone judging the movie for the movie, as opposed to calling it absolute crap just because Halle Berry is in it. I just saw SPIDERMAN 2 and im giving it a generous 7.5 out of 10 for the AWSOME action scenes and effects. So i kind of agree with you there, esp considering the rave reviews, i felt it was slightly overrated

But, maybe this is because is was extremely hyped, but this film did let me down.

It was slow, but thats not my problem, its just, well i don't know, but to me the film seemed much longer then it really was (not a good thing).

I really believe that i was letdown because of my huge expectations. The trailer was the best i have ever seen.

So, my 2nd and 3rd viewing should up my score.

I did like the acting, the story, and the movie in general. But it just seemed too slow IMO, but i think im disapointed slightly because the movie wasn't what i expected, but overall is was a good movie and i will prob enjoy it much more the next time

However, i liked SM2 more then the first film, thats for sure. Much better acting and dialogue was far better IMO

Maybe it was overrated, but 2 out of 10? You gotta be seriously insane.

The Triplets of Belleville
A Review by Tyler Foster

The Triplets of Belleville is a curious film. Is it an experiment? Is it art? Is it a movie? Is it a silent film? It tries to be all of these things, and unfortunately, it can't pull everything off at once. The result is visually brilliant and a wonder for the ears, but only occasionally entertaining as an animated feature.

Our story follows Champion, who we first see as a sad young boy. His kindly grandmother wants him to be happy, so, after seeing a hidden photo album in his room, buys him a bike, and we skip into the future, where he is training to be a pro bicyclist. But on one of his races, he is kidnapped, and the grandmother travels across the ocean to the metropolis of Belleville to get him back.

Belleville's visual style is stunning. Director Sylvain Chomet takes various contrasting styles and blends them so they work together. The movie blends CGI with traditional animation, and bathes the entire thing in an art style that resembles the work of Jules Feiffer. Buildings stretch miles high, some characters barely pass two feet. The characters are at once smoothly animated and yet when we get close, we can see the actual pencil lines drawn in by the animators.

The other triumph of Belleville is the music. The score by Ben Charest is fantastic, and the style fits the film perfectly; a quirky score that goes for the feelings on screen instead of the images. The songs, on the other hand, are just the opposite, matching beats to the thumping of feet and clicking to the clapping of hands. Accompanying both is fantastic sound design. One scene in which a dog is dreaming on a train replaces the engine chugging with the sound of the dog panting, which at once works and is still just noticable.

But some of the film's more experimental ideas fail. The movie contains almost no dialogue. While this is not a bad idea, the movie doesn't execute it very well. As the film stands, is either just too much or just too little dialogue -- the exisiting dialogue is only long enough to make it seem blatantly noticeable when characters fall silent. Either the dialogue should have been removed completely, or the gaps of silence filled more consistently.

Also, the film becomes too strange at times, including the Belleville triplets themselves. While their songs are great, there is a long dinner scene in which they chow down on frogs, which comes off more gross than anything. Also, without any dialogue, character development is essentially nonexistent except for Champion's grandmother, who we see almost the entire film.

In the end, Belleville is worth seeing if you're a fan of animation or music. The visuals are wildly inventive and brilliantly executed, and the music is catchy and memorable. It is a shame, though, that as a cohesive motion picture, the piece feels empty, because there are a handful of moments in Belleville where everything works, and during those times there's the sense of joy and wonder you get when you know you're seeing something truly special.

Score: 7.5/10

Yeah they are! Bryan Singer is making it. He's the man who was behind the X-Men's and The Usual Suspects.

Just in case anybody was wondering I'm talking about Logan's Run.

Last night.........

Intermission - Great movie, pure Irish humour right from the start to the end, I would recommend this to anyone. As always great performances from Colin Farrell, Colm Meaney and Cillian Murphy

Mystic River - I was impressed with the direction of Clint Eastwood and the performance of the cast. It is almost impossible to highlight one actor or actress, but I was stunned with the performance of Sean Penn. It is a film based on the acting, and not on special effects, shootings or race of cars. I was very impressed, since the tragic story of the loss of the youth is very real, full of human flaws, disturbances, prejudice and judgements.
