Hey guys, who do you think is the favorite to win now? Roddick, Federer, Grosjean, or Philipousis?
spiderman_2k
07-03-2003, 02:22 PM
After Henmans defeat i say Grosjean will take the victory

I don't know. Roddick is playing like a beast right now though.
KayTang999

I want either Philipousis or Federer to win. Specially Philipousis. He is back and he is healthy.

I agree he's got a good serve but his ground strokes pale in comparison to Roddick. And Roddick has an extremely good serve that can reach 149. Did you watch his match at the French? He hit the serve so hard it got stuck in the clay!

Its the scuds' wimbledon this year.
Federer is all over Roddick at the moment. I hope Federer makes the final.

Man, Federer just won. WTF? So did Philipoussis.
tedward
07-05-2003, 02:35 PM
oh yea, Scud will win tomorow in five sets. Federer did look apsolutely amaziing against roddick though.

07-05-2003, 05:49 PM
That's true. And Roddick has a pathetic backhand, just kinda consistent. But Federer will probably win. And Serena won too. *gets angry*
KayTang999

I got a feeling that Venus was playing with Kim's mind in that semi match. Now she helps her sister expand the gap between number 1 and 2 in the world.
Roger and Mark will be interesting. I am torn cause I like them both but I want to see Mark won. He really deserve it. He came back from the whole fiasco. He lost to Patrick Rafter (Come back to the tour mate!!!) in 1998 at US Open. Now it is his chance to do what he should have done. He got the talent but his health has always been in his way.
GO SCUD!!!
hpk37067
07-05-2003, 09:06 PM
I think Federer will win just because he has a better all-around game than Mark.
KayTang999
07-05-2003, 09:19 PM
That is true but remember, nerve kill people. This is Mark' second slam final, Roger's first. Mark is a bit more experience in that department.
hpk37067
07-05-2003, 09:20 PM
That's true. But since Mark lost, he has more to lose just because he has lost and doesn't want to lose again.

07-06-2003, 12:30 PM
Well, that's it, Federer won in straight sets. Now put in you favorites for the U.S. Open.

07-06-2003, 02:12 PM
Hewitt will return to form here.
But are the williams sisters clear favourites here?
Well done Federer btw - I completely missed the game.

Well, for the U.S open, im not sure really who is going to win. It is hard to tell if Federer is going to continue to play well or maybe it is just a one time thing. Hopefully Hewitt, can make a comeback. It sucks that he lost first round. My favorite is porbably MArk since he is sooo great. But he wont win.

rate yourself as a player from 1 through 10 at tennis.
KayTang999
07-06-2003, 05:33 PM
Hewitt will most likely bounce back. After that lost, Mark seems really pump and hungry.
William sister, well they better be ready cause the Russians are coming.
I just want to see Safin, Haas, Sampras, and Rafter back on court asap!!!
hpk37067
07-06-2003, 10:18 PM
Whatever happened to Safin? He was an awesome player but he disappeared.

Im pretty sure he has an injury.

andy roddick is the most overrated player on tour. he cant win the big matches that make a player a superstar. sampras had already won a few grand slams when he was roddick's age. i dont think he's the "wave of the future" for the US. women's tennis is so boring now because of the williams sisters. i didnt even watch any of their matches. one of them always wins. i want to see someone destroy the williams sisters. i want to see serena cry some more because of fans booing her and her dad try and make it a racial issue. wait, that already did happen!!!
KayTang999
07-07-2003, 04:52 PM
ITA!!! Andy is overrated and William sisters kill women tennis.
Yeah, Safin has wrist injury, he should be back in like couple of week.
I love him on the court!!! The temper and racquet slamming, so fun to watch and of course, he is talented.
hpk37067

I love the angry people. Especially when they throw their racquet up but don't catch it.
KayTang999
07-08-2003, 04:28 PM
LOL totally!!! Too bad they get fined now if they do it.
downflow311
07-08-2003, 05:08 PM
Johnny Mac wouldnt care about a fine. i bet he would still do it if he was on tour right now. as far as the us open, im going to say agassi. he is overdue.

it is his trademark on the seniors tour now - in fact people get angry when he doesnt do it.

Well, who know it could be Andre or it could be anyone. It could be Andy for all we know.

07-09-2003, 04:20 AM
it wont be rodick
downflow311
07-09-2003, 05:31 PM
i guarantee it wont be roddick. he doesnt have what it takes to win a grand slam. his game is not well rounded enough and he is too inconsistent.
KayTang999
07-09-2003, 10:21 PM
Well said!!! I agree but still don't get the hype around him. At around Roddick's age now, Hewitt has 2 Slams already. Safin has one and one runner up, so did Ferrero.

Who agrees that they should get rid of the let rule that if it hits the net and goes to the other court that it should be a fault?
KayTang999
07-10-2003, 05:15 PM
Well, as long as it is in the court it should still be let. The ball is not out. I think this is kind of hard to say. It's luck I guess.
tedward
07-10-2003, 08:06 PM
explain this to me please is this on the serve if you serve it and it 'bounces' of the net into the other players court it counts as a service fault?
Anyway anyone else think they should get rid of second serves?
KayTang999
07-10-2003, 08:14 PM
I think it when the ball is in play and a person hit the ball and it hit the net and clip it over to the other side.
What do you mean by get rid of second serve, like if you false you false no second serve?
hpk37067
07-11-2003, 11:31 AM
I think the let rule is that if player A serves and it bounces off the tape of the net onto player B's court but out, the serve is an out, if it is in the box, then it is redone. I think they should count anything that hits the net and lets to the other side should deserve a reserve.

ok now I understand hpk37067, thanks.

yep.
Also read johny mac, talking about how they should reduce the size of the tennis rackets 'face' (the surface area that hits the ball) to a size similar to the woodern rackets of his day.
hpk37067
07-11-2003, 01:57 PM
Johny Mac is a crazy character. He wants to go back to wooden racquets? Not a bad idea. It would be that no one has an upper hand in terms of racquets. But you can't get rid of the second serve! That would suck.
KayTang999
07-11-2003, 11:08 PM
No way, cause the serve is huge now and wood racquet can't hold the impact that well.
Costa
07-13-2003, 07:14 PM
Anyone who saw Roddict at Queens would not question his ability. He has so much raw ability, its just going to take time which isn't a problem as he is young.
KayTang999
07-14-2003, 10:35 PM
Yeah but at his age, someone like Lleyton, Marat, and Roger already have at least 1 slam. He might got the talent but not the same as other who are above him and that is exactly what he needs to do. With Brad with him now, he should get there. I think as long as he improve, that what matter most for being an athlete.

He wasnt suggesting going back to woodern racqets just reducing the size of the current ones, to something similar to the size of teh old woodern ones.
Re the second serve rule, if you got rid of the second serve it would put more pressure on players serves, I like the sound of that.
KayTang999
07-15-2003, 07:25 PM
That is not good cause it will increase the of serving fault and I hate to see a player lose to serving fault.
hpk37067
07-20-2003, 01:47 PM
The match would end quickly and we don't want that. And Roddick really needs a one handed back hand. If he had that, he would never lose a match. His back hand is slow, just kinda consistent.
KayTang999
07-20-2003, 05:58 PM
Andy got the whole package but need to enhance on the weapon and try to avoid the weakness.
hpk37067
07-20-2003, 09:58 PM
Avoiding it's not going to make it go away.
KayTang999
07-20-2003, 11:01 PM
You can't make it go away. If you are so perfect then no one want to play you anymore. No one will always be on the top but you can make less mistake.
hpk37067
07-21-2003, 09:13 PM
Sampras was an almost perfect player but he lost. All I'm saying is that if you eliminate the weakness, there is nothing to fear. He'll be tense if he is shaky with it and will start to make more forehand errors.
KayTang999
07-22-2003, 04:45 PM
There is no perfection in anything in the world, you just have to be your best and try your best.
hpk37067
07-22-2003, 10:14 PM
True. But you can get awfully close.
KayTang999
07-23-2003, 02:12 AM
Well look at Sampras. He ended his career not like the way I believe he should have.
hpk37067
07-23-2003, 12:20 PM
How do you think he should have ended his career?
KayTang999
07-23-2003, 05:32 PM
Not like this, may be win another Wimbledon and then announce it there that he is retired.
hpk37067
07-23-2003, 06:38 PM
I don't know. I think that he should go out without the world hanging on his every whim.
KayTang999
07-23-2003, 10:03 PM
Like the way Rafter retired was ok and we still want him to come back.
hpk37067
07-24-2003, 07:35 PM
Yeah, but that' because everyone likes the Aussies.

Actually, everyone likes Patrick Rafter, not the Aussies. I am so sure that not many people like Lleyton Hewitt and Mark Phillippoussis.
hpk37067
07-30-2003, 02:05 PM
Not many people like Lleyton Hewitt, but I know tons who love Mark. And everyone was sad when Rafter went away.
tedward
07-30-2003, 03:28 PM
Rafter was by far the most popular tennis player in aus since pat cash. Phillippoussis had gotten bad press in Australia for not playing in the davis cup but has since turned that around. Hes still not as popular as rafter though. I think hewitts ok - for someone who supports adelaide at any rate.
Who do you think will finish the year in the no.1 spot - Agasi?
KayTang999
07-30-2003, 08:27 PM
No, not Andre, I think either Coria or Federer or someone in that caliber.
hpk37067
08-01-2003, 11:22 AM
Right now, it's Juan Carlos. He is really good. He might end up at numero uno.
KayTang999
08-01-2003, 11:43 AM
True, but both him and Federer just won their first slam this year. So anything could happen.

KayTang999
08-11-2003, 11:34 PM
Well, Roddick recently beat Federer. That is an improvement.
