Plot Summary: An ode to the ancient food culture of Italy and the magical bonding power of a shared meal, "Mid-August Lunch" is a sprightly comedy about a charismatic bon vivant who relinquishes his independence to care for his beloved aging mother.
Quintessential "Romano" Gianni Di Gregorio stars in his directorial debut drawing upon events from his own life to craft an utterly charming tale of good food, feisty ladies and unlikely friendships during a very Roman holiday. Broke, and armed with only a glass of wine and a fatalistic sense of humor, middle-aged Gianni resides with his 93-year-old mother, a fallen aristocrat, in their crumbling apartment. The condo debts are mounting, but if Gianni looks after the building manager's mother during Ferragosto (Italy's biggest summer holiday, and the Feast of the Assumption), all will be forgiven. Then the building manager also shows up with an auntie, and the family doctor appears with his mother in tow. Can Gianni jump to keep four such lively Grand Dames well-fed and happy in these tight quarters?
