agreed with the above poster. i don't know if they can do cyberpunk justice with today's acting... and yes, there's a cultural aspect to this movie that makes it only feel comfortable in Neo-Tokyo. Of course punk is a western phenomena, but it can be no homage to the original. I'm looking forward to this. As far as I see it, there's a slim chance it won't suck, in which case it will be fantastic.

Akira is a title that is a classic in its printed and animated form both in their own rights. A fantastic example of cyberpunk if there ever was one. Now, we have hollywood taking yet another successful japanese title (thinking of Dragonball, godzilla, speed racer) and "fixing" it. New Manhattan? Really? It seems that, according to Hollywood, the only things these successful titles needed to be perfect was rewrite the main characters as caucasian westerners. i predict fail.
