Plot Summary:
Paul Aufiero, a 35-year-old parking-garage attendant from Staten Island, is the self-described "world's biggest New York Giants fan." He lives at home with his mother, spending his off hours calling in to local sports-radio station 760 The Zone, where he rants in support of his beloved team, often against his mysterious on-air rival, Eagles fan Philadelphia Phil. His family berates him for doing nothing with his life, but they don't understand the depth of his love of the Giants or the responsibility his fandom carries.
One night, Paul and his best friend Sal spot Giants star linebacker Quantrell Bishop at a gas station in their neighborhood. They impulsively follow his limo into Manhattan, to a strip club, where they hang in the background, agog at their hero. Paul cautiously decides to approach him, stepping into the rarefied air of football stardom--and things do not go as planned.
The fallout of this chance encounter brings Paul's world crashing down around him as his family, the team, the media and the authorities engage in a tug of war over Paul, testing his allegiances and calling into question everything he believes in. Meanwhile, the Giants march toward a late-season showdown with the Eagles, unaware that sometimes the most brutal struggles take place far from the field of play.
Following up his first filmed screenplay, "The Wrestler," writer-director Robert Siegel once again demonstrates a unique and potent vision of the human experience, in all of it its harsh truths and hopeful humanity.

RADiUS-TWC announced today that it has acquired North American and French rights to the U.S. Documentary Directing Award Winner Cutie and the Boxer, one of the best-reviewed films at the Sundance Film Festival that premiered in the U.S. Documentary Competition.
Directed by first-time feature filmmaker Zachary Heinzerling, Cutie and the Boxer is a soulful and unsentimental exploration of life and art via the 40-year love story of Ushio and Noriko Shinohara, two Japanese artists who met and married in New York in the early 1970s..
Sundance Institute this evening announced the Jury, Audience, NEXT <=> and other special awards of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival at the feature film Awards Ceremony, hosted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Park City, Utah.The top prize, the U.S. Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic, as well as the Audience Award in the same category, went to Ryan Coogler's Fruitvale, which was recently picked up by The Weinstein Company. Both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award in the U.S. Documentary category also went to the same movie, that being Steve Hoover's Blood Brother.
Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all North American and UK rights to Richard Linklater’s Before Midnight. Starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, Before Midnight is the third installment in Linklater's series that, so far, has included Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. As with the previous film, the third entry is written by Academy Award nominees Linklater, Hawke and Delpy.
The sales are coming a lot faster as we get to the last few days of the Sundance Film Festival and the latest ones announced are the Amanda Seyfried biopic Lovelace going to TWC-Radius and David Gordon Green's Prince Avalanche being picked up by Magnolia Pictures.
Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all US, Australian, New Zealand, South African, African TV, and Eastern European (minus CIS which has already been sold) rights to John Krokidas' directorial feature debut, Kill Your Darlings. Co-written by Krokidas and Austin Bunn, Kill Your Darlings stars Daniel Radcliffe, Dane DeHaan, Michael C. Hall, Ben Foster, Jack Huston, Elizabeth Olsen, David Cross, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. The film is a US Dramatic competition feature at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and premiered to a standing ovation on Friday.
CNN Films, a production and acquisition unit of CNN Worldwide, and the Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures have partnered to acquire the U.S. rights to director Gabriela Cowperthwaite's documentary Blackfish at the Sundance film festival.
Blackfish traces a 39 year history of killer whales in captivity leading up to a 2010 incident where an experienced Sea World trainer was killed by the 12,000 lb. Orca whale Tilikum, a whale previously associated with the death of two other people. Blackfish chillingly shows that this incident of violence is hardly an isolated one, along the way exploring the extraordinary nature of Orcas, thought to be one of the most intelligent species in the animal kingdom. Ultimately, it is a story about the life and death consequences of a spectacle that has thrilled millions.
Another day at the Sundance Film Festival has passed and two more movies have sold (or are close to selling) with Jershua Hess' Austenland, produced by Stephenie Meyer of "Twilight" fame, going to Sony Worldwide Acquisitions (for release by Sony Pictures Classics), and the coming of age comedy The Way, Way Back by Oscar-winning The Descendants screenwriters Nat Faxon and Jim Rash being picked up by Fox Searchlight. « Older Posts
