i don't understand? Why couldn't they just pull a peter jackson and make a single 4-4.5 hour movie,

Because, Ash, Peter Jackson hasn't made a 4 and half hour movie. Lord of the Rings 3 was a little bit over three hours long. A four hour movie isn't a reality because they'd be able to show it like three times a day, which means they loose MAJOR ticket sales.

So they're breaking it up into two films so they can please fans by giving them a five and a half hour finale.

Excellent explanation Landon...besides, who wouldn't want the excitement and build up of an extra potter movie? Plus we get more elements of the book!

thank you thank you having the movie in 2 parts will also give the fans a little while to longer to be in this fantastic world we have come to treasure. plus i hate when they leave out important information like stuff that was left out in the last movie. after reading the books don't want to be disappointed in the last movie.

This is gonna be great! I always love waiting in line for 4 hours on opening night with all the other crazed Potter fans and now we get to do it twice for one movie!!! I'm soooo excited! Too bad it's 2 years away :(

Excellent movie Warner Bros. You gave yourself two things:
-An excellent finale that fans of the book and movies will enjoy.
-Money. People will want to see this and have it in two parts, 6 months apart ensures that fans will have to see part 2.

I could not be happier with this move.

The book itself is very complex with many characters and plot threads to tie up. To do it justice, I can see the reasoning behind dividing it into two parts. I am sure part one will end with pretty much of a cliffhanger and a build-up toward the final confrontation during the battle at Hogwarts.
