Plot Summary: "Pirate Radio" is the high-spirited story of how 8 DJs love affair with Rock n Roll changed the world forever. In the 1960s this group of rouge DJs, on a boat in the middle of the Northern Atlantic, played rock records and broke the law all for the love of music. The songs they played united and defined an entire generation and drove the British government crazy. By playing Rock n Roll they were standing up against the British government who did everything in their power to shut them down. The band of rebels is lead by The Count, played by the Academy Award Winning Philip Seymour Hoffman, Quentin the boss of Radio Rock, Gavin the greatest DJ in Britian, Midnight Mark, Doctor Dave and Young Carl who comes of age amidst the chaos of sex, drugs and rock n roll. The film features an unbelievable selection of music including The Beatles, The Stones, Beach Boys, Dusty Springfield, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Smokey Robinson, David Bowie, Otis Redding, Cat Stevens just to name a few. The film is laugh out loud funny and speaks to the rock n roll rebel in all of us.

Any idea of when this will open in North America? Or is it gonna be like a number of British comedies in recent years (which, like this, are handled by Universal over here) that are released in the UK almost a full year before they make their way over here.

Hoffman, Nighy, and Branagh in a comedy together. That in itself is very promising. I like that the latter two are reuniting following Valkyrie.

Oh, and in response to your question, I'm sure the release date will stick for America, the actors, Hoffman in particular, are marketable to a serious American audience.

If this movie was set in the USA in 1986 and its focus was upon Howard Stern type characters - (look up Alan Weiner and Radio Newyork International), then this film might (MIGHT) reflect the silly storyline. But since it is is set in England in 1966 against REAL events that were totally (absolutely and completely) unrelated and better than this silly script, then the movie might be worth seeing. But its not and this movie that has already got so many names in different countries after many edits (because the original is dreadful), then it is a worthless bit of rubbish. Half of the original film ended up on the cutting room floor because the script was changed half way through. The original djs on the real UK 1966 stations are for the most part disgusted with this nonsense. As a radio historian of that era and a teenage listener in 1966 listening to the real stations, it is obvious that the real movie awaits filming with a real script. This one is a total dud and boring at that (unless you are 11 and know little about sex).
