Plot Summary: The sub-zero heroes from the worldwide blockbusters "Ice Age" and "Ice Age: The Meldown" are back, on an incredible adventure...for the ages. Scrat is still trying to nab the ever-elusive nut (while, maybe, finding true love); Manny and Ellie await the birth of their mini-mammoth, Sid the sloth gets into trouble when he creates his own makeshift family by hijacking some dinosaur eggs; and Diego the saber-toothed tiger wonders if he's growing too "soft" hanging with his pals. On a mission to rescue the hapless Sid, the gang ventures into a mysterious underground world, where they have some close encounters with dinosaurs, battle flora and fauna run amuck - and meet a relentless, one-eyed, dino-hunting weasel named Buck.

I thought the ice age came AFTER the dinosaurs. How does the the story of this movie make sense?

Hopefully this is a prequel. Thats the only way this title can chronologically work.
Dinosaurs and mammals never walked the earth during the same period. Dinosaurs existed from 230 - 65 million years ago, while Sabertooths (40 million - 10,000 years ago) and Mammoths (200,000 - 1,500 years ago) did not.
The last ice age that the first two movies were referring to was about 15,000 - 10,000 years ago anyway.
Sure its just a cartoon movie so historical accuracy shouldnt matter, but all your kids are going to see it.
Be sure to thank the screenwriters for making them dumber.

it's an animated movie guys. you can't take this timeline thing too seriously. just sit down and enjoy the movie. it's meant to entertain. not to be historically acurate. we have schools to teach kids these kinds of things.
