Andy Serkis also has a part in the trilogy.
It was great when I was 10, and even at this time this character was an has been.
ok there's a few cool books but, it's Tintin, he is not an hero.
EVEN in Europe and almost in France they are tired to insult this character !!!
hope they don't choose the racist book TINTIN IN CONGO !
I am sure that Spielberg gave it his all but, his view point on Indy has changed since the 80's.
But, it is quite obvious how cartoonish that Spielberg now thinks of Indy. Crystal Skull was the exact opposite in seriousness in Directing when compared to Temple of Doom. The Temple of Doom had just as fantasy like Drama but it had a seriousness with the direction. I was not expecting the temple of Doom. I was expecting something along the line of Raiders or Last Crusade but, it was not there.
Ever since Spielberg has gone in such a serious and Oscar worthy Direction as Saving Private Ryan and etc. he has probably looked at Indiana as silly. Back in the 80's when he was making the other Indy's Spielberg was taking those films more seriously and Directing them more seriously. But, now he seems as if he looks back on them as cartoons. Indy is a fantasy character and survives things no human would however, he was Directed with more grit and dramatic realism than what was shown in the crystal skull. Spielberg should have Directed it like Minority Report but, with humor. In other words it is a fantasy but with a gritty edge.
What the hell happened to Karen Allen. She is not my favorite Indy girl. Kate Capshaw is but, I still had some respect for Karen Allen's character and now she is completely different and not with the same attitude which is unrealistic. Nobody, changes that much even after having a kid and a few decades.
One of the only things I loved about the movie was Shia since he was the only one with energy and was taking the movie seriously. Before, I saw this movie I thought that Shia would not do as good a job as Harrison but, he did do a better job and would be equal or better in a sequel. As for Shia swinging through the vines well, Harrison survived a bridge collapse which is just as ridiculous and the only reason people liked the bridge collapse is because Spielberg took it more seriously and tried to add as much realism as possible in a fantasy situation. He did not do that with The Crystal Skull.
I liked the Sci-Fi even though Spielberg did not execute it with the same passion as he did religions in the previous films.
Also, the witty humor from the film was missing when it was there in the previous.
I am glad they mentioned Indy's military past and poncho villa since I am a fan of Young Indy tv show.
I want to see another Indy with Shia starring but, Steven Spielberg should stop looking at Indy as just a joke of a character since Steven has won all those Oscars since. Indy is still a fantasy character but, he is Directed with serious action, drama and comical wit; all of which was missing and if Steven puts it back for the next film than I am there. I want Shia jumping around as Indy like Harrison and River Phoenix did in the previous movies and he wasn't offered that chance in this movie. Steven Spielberg owes us a sequel since when I left Crystal Skull I had the exact same feeling as when I saw Batman and Robin. This time he owes the fans one and can't leave Indy with a last film like this.
How do you REALLY feel about all this? I think exploring—elaborating on—your thoughts a bit more will help you flesh them out.
Just razzing you, man. Way to be passionate.
