Plot Summary: Based on author Stainslav Lem's "The Futurological Congress," the story follows the adventures of Ijon Tichy (who would go on to appear in later Lem works as well) as he's invited to attend a futorological convention that leads to him visiting a world that blends and parodies elements of futurology. In the film version, Robin Wright replaces Tichy, playing herself as an actress whose identity is purchased by a film studio so that her likeness may exist in perpetuity, leading to glimpses at an animated blend of future visions, blending utopias and dystopia.
