January 3, 2017: This Week on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD

Blair Witch, Girls, Middle School and more come home January 3

Welcome to ComingSoon.net’s look at all the top titles arriving this week on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. Check out the gallery viewer below for a look at the major new releases, catalogue films and television collections hitting shelves and/or VOD beginning Tuesday, January 3, 2016.

We’re kicking off 2017 with an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip from this week’s family comedy Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life. Check it out in the player at the bottom of this page.

January 3 also marks the return of the Blair Witch as The Guest and You’re Next helmer Adam Wingard reinvents the late ’90s “found footage” classic, expanding the franchise fauxlore with a sequel tale set in Maryland’s Black Hills.

Other recent big screen releases hitting Blu-ray include the historical courtroom drama Denial and, on DVD only, both the Taylor Lautner actioner Run the Tide and, a cousin perhaps of the Blair Witch, the faux documentary Operation Avalanche, which posits that America faked the moon landing.

From China, January 3 brings the fantasy action hit Monkey King 2 and, from Japan, the conclusion of the big screen manga adaptation trilogy Ruroni Kenshin III.

Fans of the tremendously poorly received Mariah Carey musical need fret not as January 3 finally brings Glitter to Blu-ray.

Small screen releases hitting January 3 begin with the complete fifth season of HBO‘s Girls. That’s just in time to catch up before the Lena Dunham series begins its final episodes next month. Likewise, Bones season eleven hits (on DVD only) just as the long-running series’ final episodes begin tonight on FOX.

January 3 also brings to DVD the third season of FOX’s Sleepy Hollow and the second season of TNT‘s The Librarians.

Arriving on Digital HD this week is Universal Pictures‘ thriller The Girl on the Train, the superhero family adventure Max Steel, and the stand-up comedy feature Kevin Hart: What Now? Additionally, there’s the digital release of HBO’s Issa Rae series Insecure and, hitting Friday, the Jake LaMotta biopic The Bronx Bull.

You can check out cover art for all the January 3 releases in the gallery viewer below alongside a listing of each release’s special features (where applicable).
