Dolby Digital Mono Sound
Running Time: 644 Minutes
This DVD set contains 26 episodes from the 1986 1987 season. The following is from the DVD cover:
“Join Dorothy, the smart one, Sophia, the glib one, Rose, the naive one, and Blanche, the … well, you know … for the second season of one of television’s funniest shows ever, THE GOLDEN GIRLS. Loved by fans and critics alike, Season 2 garnered its second straight Emmy award for “Outstanding Comedy Series” and a Golden Globe for “Best TV Series Comedy/Musical.” It’s a star-filled season with special guests, including Burt Reynolds in a surprise cameo and a young George Clooney playing a Miami policeman who saves the day! Now you can “travel down the road and back again” with all 26 original episodes on one incredible 3-disc set. From the opening lines of the theme song to the end credits you’ll enjoy all the racy and hilarious moments you’ve come to expect from The Golden Girls.”
The Golden Girls: The Complete Second Season is not rated.
I would really only recommend this DVD to you if you already bought the first season DVD set. It’s really just more of the same stuff. Rose is still ditzy, Blanche is still horny, Sophia is still cranky, and Dorothy is still stuck in the middle. The second season set does have a couple of highlights. One episode features a young George Clooney in a bit part as a cop on a stakeout at the Golden Girls’ house. His role is rather minor, but it’s still funny to see him. Another episode has a surprise cameo by Burt Reynolds. So if you’re a Golden Girls fan, a George Clooney fan, or a Burt Reynolds fan, then you’ll probably find this second season DVD worth picking up.
There is only one bonus feature included on the DVD and it is the “Go For The Gold Trivia Challenge”. You are shown clips from the various episodes then asked questions about them. You final score rates you as smart as Sophia or as dopey as Rose. While this is fun, an interview with the cast would have been more fun.
The Bottom Line:
The Golden Girls: The Complete Second Season is more of the same from the first season. Cameos by George Clooney and Burt Reynolds make it a little more interesting.
