The Movie:

I have to admit that I had never seen an episode of Boy Meets World before this DVD arrived. It held absolutely no interest for me. I was in college when it first came out, so I wasn’t keen to watch a show focusing on 6th Graders. All these years later, I’m still not terribly interested in it. However, my wife has watched a few episodes and enjoyed it. She described it as a modern “Leave It To Beaver” and I think that’s a pretty good description. It focuses on an outgoing young man who has misadventures with his friends and older brother. It’s all G-rated fun that’s safe for kids to watch. If my kids were interested in it, I’d probably set them down in front of it knowing it was OK for them.

Other than that, I don’t have much more to say about this DVD. The acting was decent. The scripts were mildly amusing. It’s light family comedy and not much more. I admire the fact that it ran for 7 years. These kids literally grew up on this series. If you were their age and followed it, then this DVD set might be right up your alley. It may be fun as a bit of nostalgia.

The Extras:

There are a couple of extras included on this DVD:

Bonus Episode – This is actually the first episode from the fourth season. It’s entitled “Hair Today, Goon Tomorrow”. After watching the first season episodes, the kids seem drastically older here. It’s an interesting contrast.

Audio Commentary With Cast And Crew – Most of the original cast is back for the commentary. They include Ben Savage, Rider Strong, Danielle Fishel, and more. They provide commentary for four of the episodes (which include the bonus episode). Their commentaries sound like friends getting together to watch old home movies. They reminisce, talk about what it was like making the episodes, and more. If you enjoyed the series, you’ll find this is an entertaining commentary.

The Bottom Line:

This “Boy Meets World” DVD is mainly for fans of the series or those looking for tame entertainment for children. There’s not much here for everyone else.
