Mini-Review:

This was my first exposure to the TV series “Supernatural.” I usually don’t like to jump in on the middle of a TV series, but this ended up being somewhat accessible since many of the episodes are more or less stand alone. Most everything else you can pick up along the way.

The premise is pretty good. A couple of brothers battle monsters of the week while various subplots weave their way through the season. One episode they deal with a ghost ship, another demons, another some other supernatural foe. As long as that action is on the screen, the shows were interesting to me. But, unfortunately, the interaction between the brothers is the weakest part of the show. Their bickering gets a bit tedious and Dean Winchester comes across as a dumb jock. But they must be doing something right if they’re back for a third season.

If you like “The X-Files” or “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” or “Charmed,” this is a series that’s probably going to interest you. The supernatural aspect is fun.

There’s not much to the bonus features. There’s the obligatory gag reel, a featurette on the making of the special effects, and a featurette on the Chevy Impala. There are also a few videos on special aspects of the episodes, but they’re spread here and there throughout the DVD set.
