Synopsis:

The following is from the DVD cover:

“Walt Disney’s original classic ‘101 Dalmations’ has charmed audiences for generations with its irresistible tail-wagging stars, memorable story and wonderful blend of humor and adventure. Now, with spectacular new bonus features including a ‘Virtual Dalmatians’ game, 101 Pop-Up Trivia Facts and an all-new digital restoration, this beloved animated masterpiece shines like never before in a special 2-disc Platinum Edition. Cruella De Vil, Disney’s most outrageous villain, sets the fur-raising adventure in motion when she dognaps all of the Dalmatian puppies in London — including 15 from Pongo and Perdita’s family. Through the power of the ‘Twilight Bark,’ Pong leads a heroic cast of animal characters on a dramatic quest to rescue them all in a story the whole family will enjoy again and again.”

“101 Dalmatians” is rated G.

Mini-Review:

Like the other Disney “Platinum Edition” DVDs, this version of “101 Dalmatians” is excellent. It features a beautifully remastered picture, a ton of in-depth documentaries, rare songs and art from the production process, games, and more. There’s plenty here to entertain adults, children, and animation fans alike.

And like with the other Disney Platinum editions, I gave my kids their first glimpse at a Disney animated classic. This time around it was my 3-year-old son who got to see “101 Dalmatians” for the first time. He started out watching it completely enthralled by the puppies. He started losing interest until Cruella De Vil suddenly appeared on the screen. Freaked out, he packed his stuff and calmly evacuated the living room. He eventually returned and watched the conclusion with great interest, but Cruella certainly freaked him out…as she did most kids. I mean, what’s up with the whole puppy coat thing, anyway? (On a related note, they use her for an anti-smoking ad at the beginning of the DVD. Convenient, eh?)

Overall, these Platinum Edition DVDs are a great way to introduce kids to the Disney Classics and to learn more about the cartoons you grew up with.
