Synopsis:

The following is from the official DVD synopsis:

“The first volume in The Edgar Allan Poe Collection contains some excellent adaptations of Poe’s work including George Higham’s award winning stop-motion animation short film inspired by the poem Annabel Lee.

Annabel Lee is quintessential Poe—a haunted soul, a lost love and the nocturnal grave-quest. The epic quality of this Orphic adventure includes expressionist visions of a lone figure on a journey through a nightmarish landscape in order to be re-united with his lost love… but first he must overcome the wrath of the “Envious Angels” that ruined his world.

The volume also includes Peter Bradley’s The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart & an interview with Poe expert Paul Clemens.”

“The Edgar Allan Poe Collection Volume 1: Annabel Lee” is rated PG-13.

Synopsis:

The following is from the official DVD synopsis:

“The first volume in The Weird Tale Collection contains some excellent adaptations of horror author Robert W. Chambers’ work including Aaron Vanek’s award winning short feature film inspired by the short story ‘The Yellow Sign’ in the book The King in Yellow.

In the movie, a young art gallery owner, Tess Reardon (played by Little Giants star Shawna Waldron), is looking for new talent to spark life into her failing business. Haunted by nightmares, she discovers that an artist she dreamt about, Aubrey Scott, actually exists, and she seeks him out. The eccentric painter agrees to a showing of his art, but only if Tess will model for his new work. She grudgingly agrees and begins to regress into a past life from a parallel world, and that everything is not at all as it seems.

The volume also includes David Leroy’s stunning Tupilak (transferred from a 35mm print), and Emiliano Guarneri & David Fragale’s mysterious Italian short, The King in Yellow. Bonus materials include a short documentary called Chambers in Paris, by Chambers’ expert, Christophe Thill, plus production stills, outtakes, deleted scenes, audio commentary, and much more. Subtitles in French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Finnish, and Portuguese.

Note: The films The Yellow Sign and The King in Yellow are not presented in their true aspect ratio. Although the films are totally watchable this was not our intent and we wish to present the films in the intended aspect ratio as created by the filmmakers. Also the Portuguese subtitle track is actually a duplication of the Spanish subtitles. We intend to correct this in the next pressing. Look here for further news.”

“The Weird Tale Collection Vol. 1: The Yellow Sign” is rated PG-13.

The H.P. Lovecraft Collection Volume 3: Out of Mind

Buy this DVD at Amazon.com

Rating: Not Rated

Special Features:

None

Other Info:

Running Time: 120 Minutes

Synopsis:

The following is from the official DVD synopsis:

“The third volume in the H.P. Lovecraft Collection contains some of our favorite Lovecraft inspired films. The sublime Out of Mind seamlessly melds a stealth Lovecraft documentary using dialog based on his numerous personal correspondence, and story fragments from his mythos woven into a single fascinating tapestry.

The film also introduces us to Lovecraft the person (through the brilliant characterization by Christopher Heyerdahl). There are lots of in-jokes and references to all things Lovecraftian for the astute fan. Even some iridescent protoplasma shows up but the filmmakers wisely keep their on-screen time very short, hinting at them rather then attempting to gross anyone out.

The plot revolves around a modern day artist, Charles Dexter Ward, who inherits a copy of the Necronomicon that causes a series of nightmare excursions into his familial past and to the dream world meeting with Lovecraft himself.

The volume also includes John Strysik’s The Music of Erich Zann (now with the new 5.1 dolby surround sound mix) and Aaron Vanek’s The Outsider & My Necronomicon.”

“The H.P. Lovecraft Collection Volume 3: Out of Mind” is not rated.
