Mini-Review:

If you haven’t seen “Desperate Housewives” then you need to forget about this Second Season set and go pick up the First Season. You really shouldn’t watch this one without having seen the other one. And if you’re an established fan of “Desperate Housewives,” chances are you’ve already seen all these episodes. While the series lost a lot of the novelty of the first season, it seems to have stayed true to formula. The characters still act the same and are thrown into more and more dramatic and amusing situations. Highlights from the second season include a fight between Gabrielle and a nun, Bree facing off with her son while trying to avoid a nervous breakdown, and Lynette testing her sons to see if they’ll stay away from strangers (with hilarious results). Storylines from the first season are continued as well. Alfre Woodard continues her mysterious storyline as Betty Applewhite. Nicollette Sheridan as Edie Britt also continues her battle with Susan.

Like on the first season DVD set, they go all out on the bonus features. “Marc & Mom” feature series creator Marc Cherry reminiscing with his mother. I was surprised to hear that a number of highlights from the series were based on their real life experiences. (Yes, Marc got left on the side of the road by his mother while acting up as a child.) “Desperate Role Models” is another notable featurette where some of TVs’ most famous moms talk about the series. Included are the mothers from “The Partridge Family,” “Home Improvement,” “Growing Pains,” “Happy Days,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and more. It’s quite a lot of fun to see them all talking about the show. You’ll also find your standard deleted scenes, dropped storylines, “making-of” featurettes, Marc Cherry’s favorite scenes with commentary, and more. You’ll even find a demo from the “Desperate Housewives” video game. All in all, it’s a great selection of bonus features.
