Mickey Mouse Club The Best of Britney, Justin & Christina is not rated.
In order to cash in on the popularity of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Christina Aguilera, Disney has released these old episodes of their Mickey Mouse Club series featuring the singers as pint sized Mousketeers. The whole novelty of this DVD is seeing them before they eventually turned into what they are today. Considering their recent tabloid antics, it’s really weird seeing them as relatively normal children. But even at an early age you could see that they had really strong voices. Their vocals sound like they are from singers who are much older. It quickly becomes apparent that this show was a real training ground for their performing talents.
Seeing as how neither my kids nor I were fans of any of these singers, I was curious if my kids would be interested in the Mickey Mouse Club in its early 90′s incarnation. They ended up loving some of the musical numbers and the animals shown on the show, but they got bored by everything else. Based on their reaction, I wouldn’t recommend this version of the Mickey Mouse Club for young kids. (In fact, the cartoon character Mickey has very little to do with the show at all.)
This musical trio isn’t the only noteworthy thing about the show. Also appearing on it are a young Keri Russell (from Felicity) and Ryan Gosling (from The Notebook). I have to admit that I didn’t even recognize Gosling when I saw him on the show.
I would really only recommend this DVD to fans of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, or Justin Timberlake. In fact, this DVD allows you to skip directly to their highlights on the show. Everyone else will probably be quite bored by it.
There are no bonus features on this DVD.
The Bottom Line:
If you want to see what the pop singers looked like when they were young, then this DVD is for you. Otherwise pass on Mickey Mouse Club – The Best of Britney, Justin & Christina.
