Chappelle’s Show Season 2 Sets Record

As Lil’ Jon might say… “Yeeahhh!” “Chappelle’s Show: Season 2 Uncensored” DVD has broken both the first day and seven-day sales records for TV on DVD titles with close to 500,000 units sold on its May 24 release date and over 1.2 million units sold during its first seven days in the marketplace.

Released via Comedy Central Home Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment, “Chappelle’s Show: Season 2 Uncensored” DVD hit retail stores nationwide on Tuesday, May 24 and now stands as the fastest-selling TV on DVD title in history. It continues to rapidly climb the overall sales charts which is currently topped by the wildly popular series’ own release of its first season. The first day sales of “Chappelle’s Show: Season 2 Uncensored” DVD eclipsed week one sales of “Seinfeld: The Complete Fourth Season” DVD.

Retailers across the country confirmed the overwhelming demand and sales for the DVD. After the first day, Best Buy reported that the “Chappelle’s Show: Season 2 Uncensored” DVD sales was its number one DVD title last week. In addition, the retailer had very high expectations for the release and sales actually exceeded those expectations.

“Based on the popularity of the first ‘Chappelle’ DVD, we were confident that season two would sell well, but these figures are just unbelievable and have far exceeded our wildest expectations,” said Doug Herzog, president, Comedy Central. “Dave was at the top of his game during the second season and created sketches that will be remembered for years to come. For his fans and for fans of comedy in general, this truly is a must-add title to any collection.”

“Comedy on DVD is the top selling genre and TV on DVD is one of the hottest segments,” said Thomas Lesinski, President, Paramount Pictures, Worldwide Home Entertainment. “When you add Dave Chappelle to the mix, you’ve got the best selling TV show on DVD in history.”

“Chappelle’s Show: Season 2 Uncensored” DVD is a three-disc boxed set featuring 13 outrageous episodes. The release is chock full of rich bonus material totaling over two hours and includes: audio commentary on five episodes by Dave Chappelle and series co-creator and executive producer Neal Brennan. Other bonus footage includes: extra Chappelle stand-up material; The Rick James Extended Interview; Charlie Murphy’s Rick James memories; two unaired Charlie Murphy’s “True Hollywood Stories;” and a 71-minute deleted scenes/blooper reel which features audio commentary by Chappelle and Brennan.

The second season features special guest appearances by Wayne Brady, Jim Breuer, Nick Cannon, Guillermo Diaz, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Griffin, Ron Jeremy, Lil’ Jon, John Mayer, Paul Mooney, Q-Tip and Joe Rogan. It also includes musical performances by Erykah Badu, Common, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, ?uest Love, Kanye West and Wyclef.

“Chappelle’s Show: Season One Uncensored” DVD, released on Tuesday, February 24, 2004, is the best-selling TV on DVD Title. To date, the first season has sold close to 3 million copies, outpacing also-rans “Seinfeld” and “The Family Guy” for the top spot in overall sales.
