Strong Sales for The Chronicles of Riddick

Universal Home Entertainment’s The Chronicles of Riddick, starring Vin Diesel, sold about 1.5 million combined DVD and VHS units to consumers during its first day in release Tuesday. It is also expected to be one of the top 10-best-renting titles for this week. The film, which cost just over $100 million to make, grossed just $57.6 million upon its June release.

DreamWorks’ Shrek 2 dominated DVD and VHS sales for the week ending Nov. 14, taking the top slot on Nielsen VideoScan’s First Alert DVD and VHS sales charts. It also captured the No. 3 slot on Video Store magazine’s weekly rental chart.

The nation’s No. 1 rental pick was Paramount’s The Stepford Wives, which generated an estimated $8.99 million during its first five days on rental shelves.
