This Week on Blu-ray and DVD: May 5, 2015

Recent theatrical fare this week includes director Ava DuVernay’s Academy Award-winning Martin Luther King Jr. biopic, Selma, director Mike Binder’s recent drama Black or White (starring Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer), Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River, Kevin Macdonald’s submarine thriller Black Sea and, hitting shelves this Friday, Fifty Shades of Grey, based on the runaway bestseller.

We’re also getting writer and director Sean Mullin’s Amira & Sam (check out our recent interview with leading man Martin Starr) and, hitting DVD only, a number of recent indie releases such as the romantic comedy drama Love, Rosie (starring Sam Claflin and Lily Collins), the inspirational true story Spare Parts (starring George Lopez and Jamie Lee Curtis), the comedy A Few Best Men (starring Rebel Wilson), and the dark comedy thriller Murder of a Cat, which marks the directorial debut of Sam Raimi’s wife, Gillian Greene.

Tying into both films’ respective big screen sequels, Universal Pictures offers a revamped sing-along edition of their cult hit Pitch Perfect, while Shout! Factory serves up a Collector’s Edition of George Miller’s original Mad Max, jam packed with newly-created special features.

From the small screen, we’re getting the complete first season of AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire, the second season of Showtime’s Masters of Sex and massive complete series box sets for CheersThe Fugitive, and Parenthood.
