New Movies on Blu-ray/DVD

Transformers: The Last Knight (Paramount)

The biggest release this week without a doubt is Michael Bays fifth entry in his blockbuster Transformers franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight. Despite Mark Wahlberg returning as Cade Yeager and the addition of Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins adding class to the proceedings, The Last Knight underwhelmed at the box office, grossing only $130 million domestically. However, if you’re a Transformers completest, you’ll want to grab this one.

47 Meters Down  (Lionsgate)

The horror thriller 47 Meters Down swims home this week, starring Mandy Moore and Claire Holt as sisters trapped in a cage underwater surrounded by sharks. The movie took a decent bite out of the box office this summer, taking in $44 million dollars on a $5 million budget. Matthew Modine co-stars.

The Devil’s Candy (Scream Factory)

If you’re looking for even more intense horror look no further than The Devil’s Candy, starring Ethan Embry, Shiri Appleby and Pruitt Taylor Vince. This disturbing story about a painter who becomes possessed by satanic forces scored a terrific 92% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

David Lynch: The Art Life (Criterion)

The prestigious Criterion Collection is releasing the 2016 documentary David Lynch: The Art Life. The famed Twin Peaks creator waxes poetic about his lifelong passion for painting.

Mickey Mouse: Merry and Scary (Disney DVD)

Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy appear in three hilariously spooky Halloween tales where they go to kill a vampire (That’s right: Mickey Mouse is a vampire hunter!), remake Frankenstein and deal with a pie-making witch. The animated throwback hijinx also include a Christmas tale Donald Duck-style, and the disc features five additional shorts including several halloween-themed ones. This is a perfect treat for your child this Halloween!

Reissues

L.A. Confidential 20th Anniversary Edition (20th Century Fox)

Our pick of the week is the 20th Anniversary Edition of the 1997 noir classic L.A. Confidential, featuring Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce and an Oscar-winning performance by Kim Basinger as the classic femme fatale. Special features include several making of documentaries, a star-studded commentary track with the full cast and even an unaired pilot for an L.A. Confidential TV series!

Flatliners (Mill Creek Entertainment)

Before you see the remake starring Ellen Page and Diego Luna, why not check out the original Flatliners? The 1990 Joel Schumacher thriller about medical students who kill themselves then bring themselves back to life in order to experience the afterlife starred Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon.

Cyborg 2087 (Kino Lorber)

A classic reissue this week is Kino Lorber’s new edition of the 1966 schlock film Cyborg 2087, which sci-fi fans will appreciate as a forerunner of The Terminator. The story of a cyborg sent back in time from a bleak future to stop scientists from creating destructive machines should be quite familiar! Click here to read our full review of Cyborg 2087!
