Great summer movie - Amazing treatment for a movie all about toy robots.
For old school fans there are many homages to the original. For instance Optimus Prime's many one liners are in this film - most ranging from his classic "Autobots - Rollout" to "One shall stand, one shall fall".
This is a great family movie on top of a great action flick. The CGI is phenomenal, the voices of the characters are dead on to their personalities, and there's enough robot on robot action that'll make you want to watch this movie again and again. I recommend it to anyone who's a fan and anyone who isn't.

Finally, a real summer blockbuster! TRANSFORMERS is a thrill ride from start to finish. Watch it and you WILL have a good time. Sure, the movie suffers from cheesy dialog and lame moments, but what do you expect, it's Mr. Bay folks. Anyways, aside from these few mishaps, the movie's effects are mesmerizing, the laughs are present and accounted for, and the action is "hold on to the edge of your seat" spectacular. TRANSFORMERS was made to entertain, and doesn't it ever. Thumbs up!

Transformers is THE movie to watch this year. This movie frickn rocked begining to end. Don't robbed this movie by leaving it til it comes out on DVD, you need to watch it on the big screen.
Damn I'm gonna go watch it again!

I went into this movie expecting another flop on an old favorite. I however was pleasantly proven wrong. This movie is the best movie I've seen this year. Extremely well done from each line, comical or not, to each special effect, to each set. Emmense effort (and money) went into developing both the story and the extreme special effects. Not everyone takes on the challenge of tearing up downtown L.A. and I was thoroughly pleased with the excellent quality of the CGI. The beginning of the movie may also appeal to the bilingual hispanics in the audience, with several one liners (in spanish) I did not catch.
I beg you. Go see it, or see it again. They don't make movies like this anymore, and these film makers did an excellent job and need to get paid to do it again and again.
(On a side note)
There was a preview for a very scary/sci-fi movie that didn't name itself or even tell what it was about. (The preview with the statue of liberty head flying through the air). If anyone has an idea of WHAT MOVIE this is, please let me know....
zanebeima@yahoo.com , it looked intense and the whole audience was audibly disappointed that we had no idea what it was.

Transformers is by far my favorite movie. If they make a sequel ( which I am sure they will) I doubt it could beat the awesomeness of this movie! Michael Bay is amazing at what he does, and I am extremely appreciative of his work! He has inspired me to be an actor. I now have a Dream!! See this movie. That is all.

AMAZING MOVIE! This is the summer blockbuster we've all been waiting for. Better than Spider-Man 3, better than Fanastic Four 2, better than anything else. A total MUST SEE.
On a side-note, does anyone know what the teaser trailer before the movie was for? It didn't give a name, but looked like Blair Witch meets Godzilla. Anyway ideas, please post it.
Thanks

I loved it. I remember going to see Transformers The Movie when I was a kid. Tonight was the closest I'll probably ever get to that feeling of awe that only a child can experience. It was awesome. Seeing Optimus Prime come to life was just beautiful. I'm not a fan of the big Bay action films but for this I must say thank you!

I really enjoyed this movie! I'm not to big on action but I gotta say this one really blew me away!
And for all you people who were wondering what the untitled preview before the movie was, its a top secret J.J. Abrams movie called "Cloverfield". Below is a link if you wish to know more.

Words cannot describe how GREAT Transformers was! I've been a fan of Transformers since they came out and all i can say is that i was NOT let down in the least!! I really hope that they make many sequels and Hasbro and Michael Bay can work together again for more Transformer movies and G.I. Joe!!
The movie is easily one of the GREATEST movies ever made! I saw it at 8pm, then when it was over i went back in line, bought another ticket and saw it again! It was that good!
Having Peter Cullens play Optimus just like he did back in the 80s was possibly the best thing about the movie! I really felt like i was a kid again watching my hero do battle with the evil Megatron! The whole audience erupted when Optimus' truck showed up (and he wasn't even transformed in anyway) we also erupted when he did transform, when he introduced himself, when he owned Bonecrusher and whenever he said anything from the original show! The crowd was so hot for all the characters and movie!
I can't wait to see it again for a 3rd time and buy the dvd!!

I thought the Transformers movie kicked ass all the way! From start to finish. This has to be the number one movie of the year! It had a story to tell, a plot, it was very funny, smart, the action was mind blowing, the CGI was incredible & this has to be Michael Bay's best movie of all time. Not a big fan either of Michael Bay's movies, but u don't have to be a fan of his, to love this movie. Don't think he can top this! But we will see... Transformers 2 maybe? Like everyone said, don't wait till the dvd, GO AND SEE IT NOW!!! It will knock u out the theater!!! It is worth your money, and u can sure bring the whole family. Everyone will love it. Trust me!
Just one more thing though! The only thing I didn't like about Transformers was the music! Why? Cause they kind of used a little of the Terminator theme, and also the Batman Begins theme. When u watch the movie again, listen carefully to the music. U will hear the themes that I'm talkin' about! Trust me again. Maybe u guys didn't notice the first time out!!! So, tell me what u guys or girls think!? Watch it again. Thanks.
By the way the Teaser Preview which (zgregory) was askin' about is called Cloverfield. The one where the Statue of Liberty head is flying through the air, and lands on the ground. Just go to Ain't it cool news.com and look for it. Published on Monday, June 25, 2007 - 5:01am on Ain't it cool news.com. AICN EXCLUSIVE! UPDATED! More About The Top-Secret JJ Abrams Film CLOVERFIELD! J.J. Abrams is not directing just producing this film. I hope that was helpful.

I have to agree with pretty much all of the previous posts! Transformers kicked ass from start to finish! I liked all the little "tongue-in-cheek" jokes and the homages to the cartoon series. Just one concern: Wasn't Megatron supposed to take an Earth form? I know every fanboy (including me!) was just aching to see Megatron as a GUN! All in all, it's a movie I will see many many times and I highly recommend it to all, even the non-fans! Two thumbs WAAAAY up!

Matt Reeves Helms "Cloverfield"
By Garth FranklinMonday July 2nd 2007 12:28pm
Matt Reeves will direct and Drew Goddard will pen the J.J. Abrams produced camcorder-shot monster movie "Cloverfield" for Paramount reports (AICN), Ain't It Cool News.Com
That site first broke news on the top-secret project which comes upon the idea of a giant monster movie (the creature in this case being called 'The Parasite'), but have it all shot with home video cameras by random people to give it a very gritty and realistic feel.
Reeves directed "The Pallbearer" and TV shows like "Miracles," "Homicide," "Felicity" and "Relativity". The teaser trailer for the as yet untitled film ("Cloverfield" is a working title only) can be seen in front of "Transformers" opening tomorrow, and the film itself will hit theaters January 18th.

I thought it was great.
Prime was so freaking cool. The visuals were stunning.
The music was great. Jablonsky is one of my favorite composers.
I thought they could have spent a little more time on the Decepticons. You don't really get to know their personalities. I was hoping for some actual tension between Megatron and Starscream.
Another thing that bugged me was all the time spent on the screaming car salesman and the screaming computer hacker. It's not like they added that much to the plot of the movie. It felt like they were thrown in to get a cheap laugh out of the audience.
But damn, what and AWESOME movie.

My inner child was not disappointed. I had high expectations going in and as the opening credits began to roll I couldn't be more happy. Go see this movie NOW!!! Michael Bay's best movie to date. Hearing Peter Cullen do Optimus Primes voice again is worth the price of admission alone. Thankyou so much for not ruining this picture. Transformers rocked!!!

whats up everyone, just got out of the 8p show of Transformers and all i can honestly say right now is OH MY GOD!! the movie was awesome, probably...no probably about it, the best movie i've seen this year...probably the best movie of the year, sure you got potter coming out...but this is Transformers!! they ended it where they can make more, very nice Mr. Bay, and onto the rest of the review lol
Transformers - Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, some other big name actors but i'm goin straight to the review lol
movie starts out with Sam (Shia) giving his report about his family history and he brings up his Grandfather who mapped Antartica. then it jumps to Katar where there is an incoming helicopter and it starts ravaging the base, just like the previews...dont say i'm spoiling the movie b/c u can see that on the preview lol and it doesnt stop there with the action. its non stop with comedy and more explosions and some more explosions. the autobots are trying to find the Allspark which is a piece of their planet (cybertron) before the decepticons do. for those non-transformer people
Autobots - Good
Decepticons - Bad
lol anyways, the autobots led by Optimus Prime and the decepticons led by Megatron, with all their men are goin up against each other trying to get the power of the Allspark which will make more machines that could take over the world as we know it. cant really say to much after that b/c...well it will give away the ending. did i say this movie had great action BECAUSE IT DOES!! and as much as a 20ft tall robot can transform and look real...Michael Bay pulled it off. also sit through some of the credits b/c there is some extra stuff that rolls with the credits, like sam's parents talking to the news people and Starscream jetting into space...very awesome!! and while i'm rambling on, the voice of Optimus Prime...its the same one from the cartoon...how awesome is that!!! and Megatron is voiced by Hugo Weaving...Agent Smith from The Matrix or V for Vendetta...he was V. other transformers in the movie...
Bumblebee
Jazz
Frenzy
Ratchett
Ironhide
Bonecrusher
Barricade
yeah...very cool!! anyways i think i'm done. after u see starscream on the credits thats it, there isnt anything else so feel free to leave :) hope everyone liked it as much as i did and i think u all know what this is getting for stars
5 outta 5 stars!!! mark it down as the 1st one this year!!

seriously solid movie.
after catching alot of the big budget "blockbusters" recently (fantastic 4, pirates of the carribean, oceans 13 etc) i wasn't expecting much as i didn't wanna be dissapointed...
boy was i wrong, transformers delivered and then some. for once in a CG sci-fi/action movie there was plenty of fight scenes where the transformers got to strutt off their stuff... the only negative i could draw from these scenes is maybe the camerawork - some scenes seemed to move too fast to catch exactly what was happening. the love story wasn't over-dramatised either and complemented the story well.
if i get time, i'm definately keen to catch transformers again at the cinemas... i know my friends are.

Well, I definitely seem to be in the minority here but I didn’t enjoy this film at all. The soundtrack appears to have been lifted from every other Michael Bay film and for the first ten minutes or so I thought I was watching some horrible Armageddon re-tread. I can’t argue that the effects were impressive, (with the exception of Frenzy who looked nothing short of retarded) but explosions and CGI do not a good film make, i.e. the Star Wars prequels.
The complete and utter lack of a coherent plot was a major detriment, as was the horrible forced humor and inept handling of any scene that was supposed to be evenly remotely emotional. Let’s face it; Michael Bay cannot direct people, period. Set pieces? Sure. Explosions? Sure. Pointless slow motion? You betcha. A good movie? Sorry, no.
Now I know what people are going to say: ‘But it’s a summer popcorn movie!’ Big deal. That shouldn’t be an excuse for making a shoddy film with a plot shoe-horned in to fill the time between explosions. It’s another example of pandering to the lowest common denominator. There was no solid entertainment value here, nothing you’ll remember longer than the time it takes you to leave the theatre. I’m sure I won’t influence anyone and the legions of both Transformers and Bay fans will likely post vehement rebuttals, but I cannot recommend this film to anyone who enjoys a quality movie going experience.

I loved this movie. It's not perfect, but I have not had this much fun at a movie in a long time. And the plot was good as well. Again, not perfect, but good enough to keep me interested. I definitely felt like I was 5 years old again when watching this movie. That's all this movie really set out to do, and it accomplished that.
This is the best movie of the summer.

I must say there was only one thing I didn't like and maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I did not like how they called the tank Devastator. other than that the movie was spot on. I had it all a great story, a little comedy, some drama, even megatron was kinda scary lookin, and the fight scenes were sooooooooooo tight. GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!

Definately a quality summer blockbuster... Michael Bay found the right movie for his uber macho eyegasmic style of directing!!! Some cheasy parts, to be expected... The acting was at least decent with all of the charecters, and great in some cases, i.e. Shia Labouf and John Turturro... Megan Fox, SO GEORGOUS!!! and the action... Not enough can be said about how utterly awesome it was... I only wish there had been an all out sword battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron... That definately would have ruled!!! All in all, I couldn't have expected it to be any better!!! I left the theatre totally out of breath, like I just stepped off of an intense rollercoster!!! And that as they say is that... Oh yeah, and Starscream may be the baddest mofrackus of all time... and now, I am gone...

WOW. I this movie was incredible. After seeing the teaser trailer last summer, I really had no intentions of seeing this movie. And I was a huge Transformers fan back in the day. And I think it was the right time to make this film. The plot was right on. And the special effects were just unbelievable. I now have so much more respect for director Michael Bay. And even more respect for Shia LaBeouf as an actor. After seeing his performance in "Disturbia" and "Transformers", I can now see him in the fourth installment of the "Indiana Jones" film. Even Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, and Tyrese did a spectacular job. The film had every element a guy could ask for. The Action. The Hot Chick. The Comedy. And of course, BIG MUTHAF***IN ROBOTS. For a $175 million dollar production, this what made just right. The length of the film was just right. This is probably one of films that just made my top 5 films. I can't wait to go see it again. Let's just say this is probably going to stay #1 at the box office for the next month or so. Transformers is gunna kick Harry Potter's ass next week. No magic is gunna save him. And I probably have no high hopes for any other summer film. This is the ONE.

I am a huge fan of the "old school" Transformers but I did not want to see, in any shape of form, that incarnation brought to the silver screen in live action. Now, if you share this same view you will not be disappointed with this film. Should your "old school" views differ from this, you will probably NOT enjoy this film. This movie is by far the best action based film of the year and truly brought out my inner 5 - 9 year old child. Phenomenal effects, comedy, phenomenal effects! The story was not perfect but was fun to ride along with. For any parents out there, there was one sequence that may bring out the curious questions from your child involving onanism. The violence is more implied than visual but other than that the film is pretty clean. In all, a truly great fun film in a summer of lackluster hits and sequels thus far.

I heard great things about the movie. I'd followed it from it's earliest stages and was part of the movement to get Peter Cullen back as Prime. Prime is one of my heroes... and I don't choose them lightly. I'd seen his good image tarnished in the original show, when they turned him into an engine master. I saw him further tarnished by Transformers: Cybertron... and well... I was worried.
But hearing Prime say, "Oops, my bad" made me laugh and feel as if Michael Bay actually did it right. Why? I mean, flames and slang... you'd think I'd be angry... but I think THAT is what made the movie. It's truly a movie for our generation. Updated and polished.
I am proud of Michael Bay for doing this and cannot wait for the sequels. I will say that the action was a little blurry... you cannot take in THAT much CG THAT quickly. But I guess that's why you have to see it again and again.
The bots were flippin FANtastic. Megatron, though drastically underused, was great. Starscream, though even more drastically underused was GREAT. Frenzy stole the show though. A combination of Grr, Picachu and one of those gizmos from Batteries Not Included... he just rocked and I hope he returns. I want LAZERBEAK next, though.
Okay, enough... the movie was just beautiful. It made my friend cry. It made me smile. It made life FUN for a while.

If you're hoping for a psychological thriller, or to see the exact same big chunky robots from the 80'that you've envisioned all of your life, you're going to be disappointed.
If you're looking for familiar characters, adrenaline-pumping action, giant f***ing robots fighting giant f***ing robots, explosions, firepower, car chases, sexy people, nerd-comedy, sight-gags and a general good time? This is the movie for you.
This is a movie for Teens to Adults (and Adults who think they're still kids), not 5-10 year olds (at least not physically).
Special effects were HOT. The audience I was with was constantly laughing at the gags, and you could hear folks gasp or hold their breaths when they heard or saw something they had been waiting 25 years to see.
Was it true to the comics or cartoon in exact detail? Not really. Did it hold much of the spirit of the series in the 144 minutes that we got? I certainly think so.
I feel my childhood has been vindicated.

Sorry to be blunt but anyone who didnt like this movie is a complete nitpick of movies and needs to get a life.. how could u possibly find anything wrong with this kick ass movie? It delivered in every way possible.. from the not over done romance to the great one liners .. come on Optimus Prime saying "My bad." is priceless.. and who cares if they change the name of a decepticon .. if u wanna get that nitpicky then why not mention that Bumble-bee wasnt a beetle.. I think this movie got the much needed updating it deserved.
All I can say is this movie should break box office records and most likely will and I totally cant wait for the sequels..

" ONE SHALL STAND AND ONE SHALL FALL " THE CHILLS I GET ON MY ARM FROM HEARING THAT .. MICHAEL BAY HAS MADE HIS MARK WITH THIS ONE . THERE IS NOTHING LIKE THIS MOVIE AND IT WAS IN A CLASS OF ITS OWN .. EVERY SEC OF THE MOVIE WAS CAPTIVATING .. TO SEE . YOU COULDNT ASK FOR ANYTHING MORE FROM THIS FILM . THE CHARACTERS WERE INCREDIBLE . ALTHOUGH MANY PEOPLE WHO GREW UP ON THE TRANSFORMERS WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SEEN THE CHARACTERS LOOK MORE LIKE YESTER YEAR IM TRULEY HAPPY THAT BAY HAS TOOK THE CHANCE AND CREATED THEM IN HIS IMAGE .. I CANT EXPLAIN HOW I FELT WATCHING IT BUT I CAN TELL YOU THIS EVERY SO OFTEN A MOVIE MAKES A IMPACT ON MOVIE GOERS ( LIKE 300 FOR EXAMPLE ) BUT THIS ONE HAS MADE A MARK OF EXCELLENCE , WERE AS MOVIE DIRECTORS AND SCRIP WRITERS HAVE TO STEP THERE GAME UP .... Well the way I see it, If this movie was called Big Robots vs Humans, it would have been a cool movie. But as a movie called Transformers, it just did not hit the mark. I did not see true Autobots and Decepticons. Autobots are not gun ho about fighting, and Prime was not as noble as he should have been. Decepticons do not sneek around, they come out in force and attack. True G1 fans will see past the pretty fight and will not be totally pleased with a director who does not have a real feeling towards The transformers.

crap crap crap
first, i already saw the movie "Independence Day". and Transformers was just that with robots instead of aliens..... !!!!!
poor editing can be noticed as early on as the helicoptor sequence at the beginning. and it does continue through out the rest of the picture. at the end of the picture there are moments where megatron is going for the kid. optimus was there and then suddenly wasn't... megatron says some words - gets his point across and then attacks. suddenly optimus appears again. where did he go for the bad guy speach? poor editing people!
cheesy dialouge and bad humor! I mean to hear a kid running and screaming "This is going to be better then Armageddon " while meteors fall all around him - poor taste. to have an autobod "pee" on a guy - poor taste. and to use the "more than meets the eye" theme song catch phrase 2 times during the film - bad taste.
no transform sequence was ever shot to actually been seen or enjoyed. the camera was always moving so you couldn't see how they transformed. and this would have been wonderful for me to see because they were transforming from cars to 30' + tall metal robots. i would have loved to see how all that matter changed and expanded during the transforming.
there were consistancy errors through out the film but most noticably at the beginning when the army base was being attacked. in one moment it was mid-day and in the next it was the middle of the night.
did anyone else notice all of the city stuff was all shot on the same street through out the entire film. i mean you can only see the same stuff so many times before you start start singing "it's a small world after all". no wonder megatron, cut cube, and all the rest of it landed on earth. must be the most popular planet of all.
spoiler ahead: not that it matters much
i'm sorry but to have some stupid human kid destroy megatron in the end was a GIGANTIC let down. how in the hell is that ever going to happen or work... megatron should have not been defeated but retreat in true transformers fashion. or optimus should have actually kicked some megatron butt - total crap!

I liked it.It was good entertainment, and the best part of it was the movie never took it self too seriously which made it more enjoyable. My only minor complaint was I wished Bay had pulled the camera back when the robots were fighting because these two huge robots took up the screen and at times I found difficult to see who is fighting who,but that is a personal opinion and still regardless I loved the movie, the best movie of the summer by far.
A 10/10!

When I left the theatre after watching the adaptation of a classic cartoon, only one word left my mouth....."WOW!". This movie defined the term "summer blockbuster". It gave new meaning to what a smmer movie really should be. But besides the summer, this has now become my favorite movie of the year so far. It may not be the best one but it is certainly the most entertaining. After waiting all my life to see the autobots and decepticons brawl on the big screen, I finally saw what I wanted and boy did it satisfy. When all the autobots gathered in one place and start to transform, my grin stretched all across my face. Besides the fact that the Transformers themselves were very well animated and having a load of action, the movies comedic sense was suprisingly not good but great especially since it has three comedic actors playing key roles in the film. Even if the movie had a run time of 2 hours and 30 minutes, this is one of the few movies that i would watch countless times. This film also brings three generations together: the generation in the 80s when the original cartoon was made, the 90s generation(including me) who watched a newer version of the show and Beast Wars(for those who don't know, Beast Wars was a 3D animated show in the 90s which was similar to Transformers but the Transformers were animals rather than vehicles) which happens to be one of my all time favorite shows, and todays generation of the 2000s. If this movie doesnt hit the $1 billion mark in worldwide grosses, I don't think any movie this year will. Possibly in a future sequel(*hint*hint*) we will actually get to visit cybertron. What also made me enjoy the movie more was that it was better than the commercial. As they say, "theres more than meets the eye".

I guess I'm the only one to blame for setting myself up for complete and utter disappointment. From the get-go, I thought this could be a decent film. Opening with a great set up of the Decepticons (along with the all-too-familiar 'transform' sound), I was on the edge of my seat... that didn't last long.
This movie is called "Transformers," not "Cliche Lovestory Humans." Why did they find it necessary to focus on the cheezy human aspect of the film? The transformers from the cartoon had personality, and this personality is translated quite well in the WAAAYYY too brief dialogue they have. Peter Cullen sounds incredible, and is enhanced by the all-fancy digital sound mix. Thank you for leaving some tradition. I was momentarily excited when Prime started giving orders to the Autobots... it brought me back to the days. Then that was completely torched, when we have to endure some more 'family time' with Shia and his dorky parents.
Why was all this work with voiceovers and special effects ruined by not including it more. I came to see Transformers battling/transforming mid-high speed chases... I was looking forward to seeing MegaTron and StarScream bicker at eachother for at least more than one line. Come on writers... come on
Did I hate everything about this film? No. It has great special effects and the voicework from the Transformers is great. Hugo Weaving is a great choice for MegaTron, but why didn't he have more lines? Why did StarScream say three words? Was he not arguably the greatest one-liner master for the Decepticons... I hope everyone read this paragraph carefully. I started to say what I liked about the movie, and ended up saying what I hated most.
Please stay away from this film... From one fan to many, this was just sad.

After TMNT, Spiderman 3, and Pirates 3 all didn't quite live up to the hype I was a bit worried about this film. Especially after seeing how much attention was given to humanity in the previews. But I was wrong. This is easily the best film of 2007 to date, in ANY genre. If this doesn't win movie of the year at the Academy Awards it will be a travesty. My only real complaint about the movie is about Starscream, his personality is not given enough attention and they should have given him some more color. This is just a minor detail, the action in the movie is AMAZING as are the special effects. My sister, who has never been a transformer fan, was saying that it had everything, action, comedy, drama, a love story. The plot gave it a Transformers feel, they didn't modernize it, the Transformers trying to find the Allspark so they can revive their home planet/create a mega-army out of earth's resources, obviously you can tell which side wants which. Bumblebee is awesome, Prime is his old self, Ironhide rocks, all of the Autobots had personalities. Some of the Decepticons didn't really get to say much but that's okay, they're villians, they are just supposed to follow orders and fight. Frenzy annoyed me a bit, he invoked bad memories of a certan infamous Star Wars character, Jar Jar Binks. Shia Lebouf is great, all of the cast was awesome and Megan Fox is hot. Peter Cullen is wonderful as the voice of Prime, you can tell his voice has aged somewhat but it's okay, he sounds like the Prime we all know and love. And did anyone else have a lump in their throat when Prime says 'Freedom is the right of all sentient beings?' I left the theater at 1:30 am last night thinking about how many awesome characters they can put into the sequel.
In conclusion I would just like to say this movie gets 11 out of 10 stars. Any critic that blasts this movie or the simplicity of its plot probably is a loser who couldn't make it as an actor.

What can I say? Michael Bay and Steven Speilberg did the damn thing!!!! From start to finish was never a dull moment. The storyline, characters and of course the cars were awesome. The hype and wait was well worth it. I must admit that i was a bit leary with the truck Michael decided to use for Optimus, but he pulled it off. I am very glad that this movie was as good as it was because so many people had so many issues with the path Michael and Steven chose, but it worked for me. They will have my ticket money at least 3 more times.
Thank you Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg for truly bringing back my 80's childhood all time favorite cartoon as well as the epitome of "entertainment" back to the movies.
EXCELLENT JOB.

i'm not gonna get into the whole "stupid vs. smart" personal evaluation of a movie opinion thing, because thats fairly childish, but i can understand both camps. the original (g1) transformers toys, tv series, movie , and (to a lesser degree) comic was a HUGE part of my adolescence and has remained one of my favorite things in life to this day. in fact, the original animated movie is still one of my favorite 3 movies. i was 10/11 years old when this stuff was at its prime. i didn't care about having a car or a girlfriend or geo-political relations. i wasn't having awkward conversations with my parents. i was a kid that loved robots that turned into things that i saw everyday and the battles they fought. i loved it because it wasn't real, but as a child, you believe some things could be real. with that in mind, i would surely have been of the mind to hate this movie. unfortunately, spielberg is one of my idols and michael bay is one of my favorite directors (because he has amazing eye). 5 years ago, i joked to a friend that if somehow steven spielberg and and michael bay got together and made a transformers movie, it would likely be the most amazing thing that was ever produced (to me). today i can say that i was wrong.
its not necessarily a bad movie, and most of my complaints are based on the obviously phoned-in script that the film is based on. i knew it wasn't going to be the movie i wanted and it couldn't be, because its not a kids movie, its a movie for families with teenage kids. kids who probably don't care about toys, or are too emo to even comprehend the concept of suspension of disbelief. not to mention that the transformers has ALWAYS been a concept that was directed squarely at little boys or big boys who felt like being little boys for a while, and that always served it well. so, why shift the focus from that? if they wanted to make some watered-down, sappy, slow-moving, boy and his muscle car movie with people who happen to be in the presence of robots that transform, they should have made a go-bots movie. to tell the truth, bumblebee seemed a bit too much like turbo and mikaela was even riding a scooter at some point in the movie. and for all those people wondering what the go-bots is, you don't know because it sucked wide ass compared to the transformers and disappeared for good reason.
the story was spotty and contrived and (like too many movies these days) SOOO dumbed down that it made it seem almost offensive to be intelligent. the over-ethinicizing of characters was sad to see in this day and age, and there were so many pointless, undeveloped tangents in this story that it took away from what the movie could have been. there is already GREAT source material for the transformers, you don't need to come up with something new and if you feel the need to, don't call it the transformers, make something entirely different. but, why take on something that has a history and a huge foundation, and is obviously so popular as what it is and then so blatantly disregard the source?
anyway, bay came through with the action and delivered some amazing spectacles throughout and the effects were FAR SUPERIOR to anything we've seen in recent movies. the robots were very believable, almost too believable but thats another story. still, why did we need to see optimus' mouth. its not like that mouth made him more believable and relate-able...as a 40 foot robot. and alot of people will say thats a very nerdy and small complaint, and it is. its so small that it makes no sense why its in the movie. thats money that could have been spent developing a better script.
for a highly commercial teenage, action, coming-of-age flick that panders to females and uses sexual innuendo and crude humor as a plot device, its a great movie. for a transformers movie, it is not. so, if you don't care about the toys or the history of these characters, or have small kids that have the newer toys or that care about these characters, then you should enjoy it as a standalone experience. for the other people, separate yourself from the feeling. the homages (and i use that term loosely) are general let downs. the phrase is "TRANSFORM...and roll out"!!!
oh...and there's nothing after the end credits. another missed opportunity to salvage the story and pay some respect to the source. especially after the end leaves you with so many tasty bits that they could have used. such as tossing in a thunderous rumbling and giving us a glimpse of a large planet devouring planet approaching Earth....sequel anyone?

You know, id LOVE tobe able to give my opinion on transformers, since ive been looking forward to it since not just the fact that it was finally being done, but it had a genuine well know action director behind it?
Id love to say how amazing the effects were? the good balance between the humans and the robots? BUT i cant, why?? becouse i live in the UK and i think we will be the last bloody country on the f$%^£%^ing planet to get this film??
So i say to anyone who makes a sly living off pirates, check your bank balances in months to come, theres gonna be a demand for this film and becouse some moron thought "we wont release it in the uk like we have everywhere else" people who normally wouldnt buy a pirate copy in the past will probably want one really soon, and that means ker-ching for your bank balance.
I cant wait for transformers, but unfortunately i have to.
Bitter in the UK

I saw Transformers last night. Going in I really wasn't sure what to expect. Such drastic changes to the character designs brought nightmares of 1998's "Godzilla" to mind. Fortunately though, these concerns were unfounded. Transformers was awesome! While there were one or two silly and absurdly unrealistic points in the story, it was entertaining from beginning to end. Even my wife, whom I had to practically drag kicking and screaming to the theater, really enjoyed it. It's so good that I want to see it again while it's still in theaters!

Transformers was a decent film in comparison to the other movies that have come out this summer. That being said it was still horribly disappointing to watch characters I loved as a kid get reduced to sidekicks of Shia Lebouf. Transformers is not just Giant Robots blowing stuff up. Transformers is about Autobots lead by Optimus Prime fighting Decepiticons with Earth as its battleground. Where was there any character development for any of the Autobots? Where was the interaction at all with Megatron and Starscream?
Instead of seeing any Transformers mythology or character interaction I had to endure watching John Voight talk with hackers trying analyze the Decepticon signal for half an hour or watch stupid secretary of defense fight Ravage in a bunker while the autobots leave the damn.
I probably thought the worst part of the movie was when Optimus and Megatron were fighting and on the ground and Michael Bay cuts away to FING HUMANS attacking Blackout as he approaches their fight! The ending fight sequence was just so disappointing as Bay kept cutting to faces of soldiers as they shot their puny guns at the Decepticons. The few shots we got of the Transformers fighting was so close and blurry I couldn't tell who was fighting.
Do people really wanna see Transformers from a human perspective. Did you really enjoy watching humans shooting at the Transformers with weapons that should not have even hurt them instead of watching Autobot on Decepticon battles.
This movie could have been so much more and I have lost much respect to Spielburg for letting it be made this way. I never had any for Bay.
Oh and I dont think I saw the Decepticons symbol once in the movie.

All Bay-ed up...equals C-
Major disappointment and a shameless attempt to defraud us of hard-earned dollars and allowances. I was expecting to see some transformers battle it out and I got that...for 30 minutes. The rest was nothing but frivolous T & A, ridiculous dialogue, dick and fart jokes, and a story that went absolutely nowhere close to being about transformers. As much as I hated that Shia stole so much camera time he was the only thing that held the movie together.
Action scenes had some amazing effects for transformations, but came up short when it came down to the action. Camera shots/angles were poor and obscured much of ILMs hard work. What the film came down to was one long commerical for product placement. I really feel like driving my GM car to the Army recruitment office while drinking mountain dew right about now.
Anyone with a pen and roll of toilet paper could write a better story...boo and hiss if you want, but a story about giant robots who do little else but fight each other is an opportunity to breathe life into some 2-dimensional characters and author story not to divert your attention to the humans around them.
Bay clearly has no love of the transformers ( and he said as much in interviews), which is so disappointing because Spielberg does. Makes me wish the director/producer role was flipped. Spielberg could have shown us the wonder of seeing them come to life, something we all were looking for and was sorely missing in the film.
To Fans: No Megatron/Starscream struggle, Devastator is now a tank (w/ 3 cannons) while Bonecrusher is a stand alone decepticon (very cool for 2 minutes), Jazz went from Scatman to Method Man to pour a 40 on the corner, and Megraton (and most of the decepticons) are noticeably absent for most of the film.
P.S. one transformer goes AWOL towards the end (hello editing?). Clearly careless when you lose track of 1 giant robot in a movie about giant robots.

it was a freakin sweet movie. the brillian jj abrams' cloverfield trailer looked extremely intense also. though the teaser only gave you a small bit of information such as jj's name as producer and a release date, some good detective work can and will give you much rewarding information about next year's smash hit "cloverfield". KMAN SAID: P.S. one transformer goes AWOL towards the end (hello editing?). Clearly careless when you lose track of 1 giant robot in a movie about giant robots.
Obviously Kman you didn't stay to watch the credits because you'll see what happens to the one transformer that is missing.
As far as the story and being a Transformer fan. The movie fulfilled the story and it's characters. Of course, the characters had to be changed. I mean who on earth would want to see Megatron as a stupid Luger gun or Bumblebee as a VW Beetle?!? Yes back in the day, that applied to our standards or seemed cool. I wouldn't find that cool when your trying to make a movie to today's standards. It wouldn't make sense to make the characters out of old stuff when the movie was set to todays events and your appealing to today's audience!

Loved it, Loved it, Loved it. The tried and true way I use to gauge the success of a film of this nature is simple. I take my wife with me. She knew virtually nothing of the Transformers. The most popular cartoon and toy line of our youth and she could not tell me anything about the characters. After a I gave her a brief tutorial on the story, we sat back and watched the film.
On the drive home after the film ended, I said nothing. I waited and after a few minutes into the drive, she said "That was really really good". I simply smiled.

Look, look, all you nay sayers about Transformers, especially Thessair; When you guys come out with a blockbuster film of your own to top Transformers, then maybe we'll take you seriously. Why do you people love trashing someone's work of art? I gotta ask y'all the same question Shia asked that cop, "Are YOU on drugs?" And while I'm at it, let me ask the other question he asked his teacher, for the next time y'all just itching to trash another film, "What would Jesus do?"
Transformers is the best movie out right now. It's not just action packed, but it's surprisingly as funny as "Knocked Up". I mean, every minute of this film I was just losing it; I was laughing, clapping my hands and jumping up and down in my seat!

All I can say is WOW... WOW... and MORE WOW.... This has to be the best action film I've seen in years... THE CGI graphics are something to behold and man oh man does it feel good to here Optimus Prime again. I went to the Advance Screening last night and the crowd was electric - mostly 30 year olds who grew up on Transformers back in the 80's... Micheal Bay did a marvelous job on this film and I can't wait till the next one... If you liked any of Micheal Bay's films (Bad Boys II, The Island come to mind) for their special effects... This ones 10 times better in that department.. Action from end to end... DEFINITELY MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE...

Wow. I don't know if I'm more surprised at how awful this movie was, or that so many people actually "liked" the darn thing. First off, someone needs to send Michael bay back through film school, if he even went in the first place. He couldn't make a good movie to save his life. The movie itself - was bad in every aspect. Heck, bad doesn't do it justice. Poor editting, plot holes you drive through, crap dialogue. One would think bay, being the dip heis, could accidentally make a good movie with material like "Transformers". Sadly, this didn't happen. Save your money. Go see the new Die Hard.

I'm a fan of loud, mindless summer action movies-which basically makes me a michael bay fan, since I liked the rock, bad boys 1&2, armageddon and even the island. but this movie takes the cake.
I can safely say that this is the worst movie he's ever made. cars crashing, buildings destroyed-show us something original, something new with that 147 million. the island sucked but the last half had 2 great & original mindblowing action sequences that almost made up for the rest of the movie-the highway scene & jet bike scene. the robots' transformation was shot too close and the movie was a bore, frankly. the most simple fight sequence in die hard held my attention more than the mass hysteria in this movie, with people all over the place. and the worst thing--What is with all the lame jokes in the movie? did michael bay make this movie for ricki lake viewers? cause those would be the only people who would appreciate these cheeseball ghetto jokes which he should be embarassed to put in there. he also overdoes it with the big anthemic scores (c'mon, it's a movie about robots). justin long & bruce willis carried the comedic weight of die hard with good, effortless humor which made that movie stand out instead of peppering it with mindless jokes. I like mindless entertainment, even so-called bombs like stealth, but of the 6 summer blockbusters I've seen this year--this is the worst.

I strongly recommend this movie. All aspects of it were phenomenal. Anyone who has played the game, dont go by the ending or anything that happens in it, it was fairly accurate but it will throw you off. Optimus and the Autobots were amazing, even the lines that they said. Megatron could have been in the movie more because with how much was shown, it didnt showcase how evil he truly was, and he is one EVIL DUDE!!! The rest of the decepticons wer visually stunning and the voices or sound effects that they had matched their personalities (if robots can have personalities). The original transforming sound made its way into the movie but it wasnt in it alot, so listen for it. Overall I loved the movie and wasnt disappointed. Best movie of the summer, nothing can surpass it, not even Spiderman 3 or Pirates 3. "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."

It was awesome.
More Autobots and Decepticons should find their way to Earth to duke it out.
Also, I'm glad unlike some other movies I had high expectations for this wasn't another low PG rating.
However, with the Con's: Devastator appears as a separate character that transforms into a modified M1 Abrams tank. This character was listed as being renamed Brawl; however, in the final movie, the Decepticon clearly identifies himself as Devastator. This is due to Hasbro's edited name not being altered in time to make the final cut of the film.[citation needed]
The film's producer, Tom DeSanto, states the possibility of adding the Constructicons in a sequel.
At least they "meant" to make the tank Decepticon Brawl, instead of messing up and taking Devastators name and placing it on a combaticon tank.
Its one thing to switch basics like a car for a car or whatever. However Devestator was sort of a huge mess up. Although the movie was so amazing otherwise, its okay. And I can't wait for the next movie.

Great Job Michael Bay
I'm glad that this film is directing by the right person who really know how to make this thing work best.
As we've already seen an astonishing trailers and clips which teasing us very much, the movie itself is FAR BETTER than that. We didn't 'trick' by the trailers and clips, trully the trailers and clips has the right portion to bring the film to the best.
STORY:
The story is a little bit ordinary BUT the story didn't messed up.
ACTOR:
Eventhough this is about giant robot's wars, all actors seem pretty well to bring out their role.
SPECIAL EFFECT:
You know, I can't say another word beside MARVELOUS Effects include robot's transformed and their actions
ENJOYMENT:
The action in the movie is very well spread from the beginning of the film till the end

I loved this movie. I'm still in shock over it. I went into it expecting to be disappointed but instead left smiling and anxious to see it again. I haven't paid to see a movie a second time since the first Jurassic Park but I have to go and see Transformers again. Not gonna lie, I was walking in this movie hyped up, but also very weary of seeing it, like SM 3 which was overhyped, I think I was a bit too scared. Also, I think the PG warning kinda started to scare me a bit, with all the jokes and tidbits I heard about this movie, I was expecting PG-13. I was part of the first few who saw this movie in my city, and let me just say... I haven't seen a movie like this since 300, it was freaking amazing!
One thing I'm not gonna lie about though, some of the acting was a little dry, could have used a little more emotion on the humans part, but honestly, thats the only and I mean only thing I had problems with.
You people complain about how Megatron got killed off by Sam, but remember what Optimus said in the early parts of the movie: "Insert the cube in my spark, it MIGHT kill me!" I can just see a teaser trailer right now, with Megatron sparking in the bottom of the hole, either turning into Galvatron or coming back as the same old Megatron. There are so many possibilities to work into a sequel, Unicorn, Galvatron, StarScream coming back with an armada, who knows, maybe even the Constructicon like it was talked about.
The action was amazing, the robots were amazing, the cars were amazing, Megan Fox was... well as her last name says it, a freaking fox, wow.. (though a little stale at times)... The comedy was 10xs better then I was expecting, especially with the PG rating, though apparently here in Canada our PG rating is alot looser then the American one. The jokes were simply amazing, I haven't laughed that hard in a while. I mean, who would expect a 30' morphed police car into robot attacking a kid because he wants to know his eBay idea, pure hilariousness!
This is a movie for those who have followed the old Transformers with a few variations (Come on, who honestly believes a 40' robot could turn into a freaking gun that can be held, the Jet was a great idea). But honestly, this movie is more for the people who haven't followed or followed Transformers a little bit (I was more a Beast Wars / Machine fan for some odd reason, I had to read up on history of transformers to make sure I wouldn't miss a beat, and I was happy I did). Come into this movie with an open spirit, enjoy it, cause it's a hell of a ride!
You'll see me in theaters again to see it!
My Rating: 9.5/10

First of all, I enjoy thought this movie was excellant. I cannot believe people where nit picking about stupid things. This movie was made to entertain us. It took all of us back to when we would rush home from school just to watch "The Transformers" on TV. To the people that nit-picked about the movie your looked to in-depth about things, the slow motoin, the missing autobot in the end "Jazz did die in the movie!", too much explosions. So what, it add to the movie and the CGI was awesome. This movie was 20 some odd years in the making for me and it did not let me down! Too all the others who enjoyed the movie "Autobots, Roll-Out."

Amazing movie!! I was 11 when the 80's G1 series premiered. I had been anticipating this movie for 2 years, and I was very excited to take my son to see it on his 10th birthday. Bay and Spielberg did a great job. Cullen as Prime, the CGI, the story, the humor, the action, Megatron's makeover, Shia (what a performance, who is this guy?)...... all excellent! My biggest surprise, however, came with the effect it had on my 4 year old daughter. When her favorite character, Bumblebee, got in some tight spots, she would get very upset and almost cry. I saw Jaws and Star Wars at age 4, so I think I know what she was feeling. This movie is going to be a classic!! It's a fun ride! That said, I personally give Bay and Spielberg my full endorsement to make Transformer sequels as well as live action movies out of Starblazers, Robotech, Battle of the Planets, and The Guyver (Trash Those B Rated Guyver Movies). Transformers rocked!!!

It's not what I thought it was going to be but it still worked for me. It may not been the 1984 version of them but they were much cooler then that. Everything has to update it just the way the world works if Bay would have made them look like the 1984 cartoon it would have brought the movie way down and I know it all about the old version and how great it was and dont get me wrong the old cartoon was great in its time but sometimes you need to let go and enjoy the change. The movie is great. My wife even liked it and she was never a fan she thought it was a really good movie. The one thing I noticed and its been a really long time to here people cheer and clap at a movie not even pirates or sm3 got that it was really cool when Prim found his body and the first time he talked every body cheered it was great. As far as megatron damn that guy is mad all the time I loved it. Over all I really liked this movie I will buy the bluray and it will be put on the shelf with the other favrite movies I have untell the next and they did leave it way open at the end to make the next movie and if they do i see allot more transfomers to be in the next.

I've seen Transformers 3x's once in the theater twice online. CGI efx, A+ ILM did there usual top notch work. The story stupid as usual H'wood screws up the origin of the Transformers battle. I'd give the movie a C- . Tell you why.
They should have named this movie "Sam Witwicky the nerdy teen featuring the Transformers". This movie is 2 hours 23 mins. long and Shia LaBeouf is in 2 hours of it. He even had closeups in the battle scenes..wow! Maybe he's the chosen one to replace the other aging action adventure lead men like Bruce Willis. I'd like to kill butt like that when I'm in my 60's.
What is it with H'wood that every comic book live action movie orginal story line has to be altered ? The fans don't like it and those who've never seen or read it don't know the difference ?
The people of color in these movies have minor roles or die early in the movie. We're either clowns, cowards, evil, henchmen, etc. The white man is here to save the day, the world, his woman, your woman, and us stupid chicken black folk : The Matrix, Lethal Weapon,The Fifth Element,Alien,Aliens,Unforgiven,Gladiator,Heat,He-Man,Virus,Mission Impossible,James Bond,Dr. Who,Serenity,Demolition Man,300,
etc.
Why does H'wood have to constantly appeased the inferior complexed white male population that the they are the Masters of the Universe? They're always more resourceful, braver, smarter, despite the impossible odds they face they keep a cool head.
In Transformers Bernie Mac gets the finger from his grandmom, he calls her a bitch, the one T'former who has a BLACK personality is destroyed, Anthony tells his grandmom to "shut up" plus he's a grown man living with his grandma playing vid games. Plus he's a scared punk and a snitch. Tyrese mostly is giving coordinates in the movie and fighting that's about as postive it gets. Not to mention what happens to the Spanish speaking brother...
The formula is always the same in this movie and many, many others it's gotten old and stale. Long live bootleg!!! H'wood dosen't get much from me as long as I get find a movie online.
Shameless and I mean shameless plug for GM cars and trucks this is as bad if not worse than the FF movie.."does it have a Hemi?" "of course" says Stretchy. There are articles stating that GM spent millions of dollars so that they can promote these cars to the 18-34 males (white males). What other people don't like fast cars ? Who wouldn't in this gas guzzling day and age? Now that GM is no longer #1 in car sells they promote on movies like this. Maybe nobody NEEDS a car that can go 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds with gas around 3 dollars or anymore.
Guess H'wood and GM execs don't get a lot of things. Let's keep following the same old formula and aim it at the nerdy white inferior-complexed male who's parents buy them anything.
Just imagene if they followed the orginal 1G Transformers story..What a awesome opening better than Star Wars 3&4, or The Matrix. Sure would have liked to see more T'formers and less human interaction.

Well what more good stuff is there to say, then have already been said: I was so disappointed by Shrek 3, Spider 3 and Pirates because I knew them and just sad and looked at the same in a different way. What was the best part of it was that it was left to boys and their toys not all the emotions that has killed all of the spidy film for me. Leave the emotions for the dramas or one of all the girl films out there with Huge Grant.

No long paragraph just wanted to say go see it, Its great Summer action like a movie should be. We all can nit pick but its overall a great flick. Probably the best military air strike scene ever. The CGI is well done and of course Hollywood adds their little twist, making the military look like a bunch of ragtag out of control free for all. This will be a definite Blue Ray purchase when it comes out!

Transformers was sweet. Every now and then it gets a little bit hard to tell what is going on in certain action scenes, but most of em' are just fine and give you a nice view of robots ripping each other apart.

Transformers!!!! Awsome movie of the year so far. I Went in with high hopes cause i have been a fan of the old school transformers. And it delivered more than i can ever expect. Primes voice and the other auto-bots vocies were right on and the CGi was just incredible. Lots of action, comdey and romance made this movie worth while. It is a must see again and again!!!! I have read alot of what people had to say about the film, With all there accusation on how poor the movie was. And they couldn't be more wrong about the film. most of the people grip is about language of the film and bad comedy and how it was made for older kids than younger. But younger kids are just going to like the robot's they aren't going to pay attition to anything else. The movie was all out great and amazing. It was almost like the cartoon, But who wants to set around and nit-pick the film cause this movie is edge on your seat the whole time. So if you are a fan and if not this movie will keep your attition so you wont have time to listen to the music that people grip about. Or what else people nit-pick out of the film. Cause most of what i have read at what people have said is that they didn't watch the film but more like went into the movie with a note-pad and was writing down what they think sucked. Which anyone that will grip about this movie in any way must be some far out NERDS... period. i'm here to say that the movie rocks all out and i am going to watch it agin and again... Thanks for makeing this film and i hope to see more and more of one of my fav cartoons of my child-hood TRANSFORMERS "MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE"

What a great homage to a favorite childhood franchise. Best adaptation of any medium to date, and YES as Steven Speilberg stated, "Michael Bay was born to direct Transformers." I hope he sticks to the franchise, aside form his initial hesitation to even do the film. Fans of the Transformers will not be disappointed in this film, I had a grin from ear to ear from the moment I sat down till the moment the end credits rolled. I didn’t expect the film to be as funny as it was. The action sequences were by far the best ever put on screen. If I had to even place a negative note about the film, it would be the lack of interaction between the Decepticons, especially between Megatron and Starscream. I was hoping for a bit more bashing by Megatron. GO AND SEE TRANSFORMERS, it is the very definition of a summer blockbuster. Oh and a question to the die hard fans, is there a scale model (1:24 perhaps) of the Deception Barricade (The Saleen Mustang/Police Car) made in metal. I am a big fan of Mustang models and that would be idea for my collection.

First off transformer haters, this movie rocked beyond belief. What in hades underworld makes you think this movie will not have a sequel or even a saga? This is the TRANSFORMERS, who have been around longer than Harry Potter, and that little punk is gonna have 7 movies in total. This movie serves, in my opinion, as an introduction to the characters and up coming movies. Could you possibly fit all the information and experiences of Starwars, or Lord of the Rings into one movie? I don't think so. You wouldn't even be able to fit them into one freaking book. Hello, this movie has already pulled in over 27 million in U.S and Canada alone. There will be more cuz the money is good. If you had stayed longer in the theater you would have seen that Starscream escaped and went back to space. You know in the next movie he'll revive Megatron. So keep your panties on and quit "lubricating" on the movie. You're just hating cuz you have nothing better to do in your life than to gripe and complain. I love the fact that I can share this childhood adventure with my own children and you should too.

Took a vacation day to see the film. Now, I have been following the production of this film for some time. I can honestly tell you, I am geeked by the time it is released! WOW! I was literally blown away from beginning to end! Aside from some occasional cheezy dialog, this film was awesome! I expected it to be good. But, not this good! The CGI is first rate. Finally, technology has meet the demand in a way that makes it worthwhile to watch! The film is quite lengthy. Yet, I sat through it a second time! Just as thrilled as the first. Really liked the new Carmaro and the Solstice. Now, if GM could get me to buy one...lol! I own a hopped up Civic! My hats off to Mr. Spielburg anf Mr. Bay for putting the FUN back into movie going! Great job fellas! Looking forward to the DVD and the sequel. Keep up the good work.

Great movie, probably the best movie I have seen this year beside 300 and Ocean's 13. The CG was great and so was the acting, This movie is Micheal Bay's greatest achivement, lets hope that Prince of Persia(Bay's next movie) is as good as this one.
oh yeah saw the same trailer and it looks crazy the movie is right now bieng called Cloverfield and is bieng produced by J.J. Abrams. It's about a giant monster (refferred internally as The Parasite) which is shot using home video cameras from the point of view of real people who are experiencing the attack on New York City .

Saw Transformers twice..and I have to say it was the best movie I've seen in 20 years. The action was incredible, the humor was surprisingly right on and fit the script well and the characterization of the transformers was completely on point and true to fact. They Nailed it big time. In awe, I drifted back to what it was like to be a kid experiencing Star Wars for the first time. Everything about this movie worked. The only problem I had with it was this (and trust me it didn't take away from the movie at all, actually it gave a great set up for some amazing action).
If the world was being attacked by giant metalic monster seeking to destroy and kill life on the planet with other metalic monster looking to battle them so that they caused no harm...and you are near a desert and other isolated locations ..why the hell would you order everyone into a highly populated area where the death toll would be ridiculous...that said..Im glad that they did because there is nothing better then watching tranforming robots destroy a city and everything around it. It was cool as sh*t.

Wow! What can I say about Transformers? Okay...I didn't like the Cartoon back in the day, and I got dragged to this movie by friends. I have to thank the friends for making me see this. I've gotta say that this is my favorite action/thriller now. I wasn't expecting much at all and boy this was a big big big surprise for me! Good job Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, Shia LaBeouf, and all the others that made this more such a great success!

Best action movie Ive seen in a long time. Clearly the best of this year. Not only was there a ton of action, but very comidic as well. The only problem I had was the camera recording of some of the fight scenes. It was too hard to tell what was going on, but definetley a must see movie. I cannot wait to see it again and can only hope for the DVD to come out in time for Christmas? (is that too soon? I hope not!)

Transformers was a visceral experience. From a fan of old school anime, cartoons and stories of any media, I approach this film with a critical eye. But as an open-minded individual, fan of old school does not equal purist. I'm gonna watch it again at least two more times but I do have to say this to nay sayers, a movie is sometimes just meant to entertain. That said, I will pay attention for any of the critiques put forth. or at least try. : P
Though the movie predominately featured Shia Lebouf's character, the fact of the matter is, the whole set-up arranged it so that he was a person of importance, as he was in the first parts of the original comic which I have read. And if you paid attention to Optimus's beliefs on the humans as quoted from one of his more famous lines, then having the humans, and thus Sam Whitwicky, play a key role was essential to prove his point.
If you wanna take apart the humor, it was situational. I have seriously had plenty of experiences that if viewed from the outside were just as ridiculous and funny as the ones in the movie. For the target audience, the humor was appropriate. I did also notice that some of the humor came out of shared experiences where it was awkward but because it wasn't happening to us, we could feel free to laugh at it.
As far as plot holes go, I couldn't really find any, and if there is a plot hole or a problem in continuity it would nag me for a good spell. Though, as I have pointed out, this was my first time.
As for the robots. As a man who makes it a habit of watching nature shows and "what if?" shows on evolution and alien life, the look they had in the movie is in my eyes beautifully done. Though mechanical, they give off the feel of having evolved into their present state. With the realization of how the AllSpark was used to create them, the primitive robots that appear when its energy was used, that line of thought seems truer. Using or hinting at previous incarnations in terms of appearance, i.e. Megatrons Scope Gun or even his ability to shrink to form the Luger, is insulting of the reality they were trying to capture about them. That said, I come across a possible plot hole that can be clarified. Though the Transformers themselves couldn't shrink, the AllSpark did. If you are smart, than you'd realize that the AllSpark created the Transformers and as such is much more alien than they are. The race that created it could have been advanced enough to have mastered dimensional compression or some such sci-fi jargon. And the Transformers did get here and use conventional or moderately more advanced technologies, nothing to indicate super science to such a degree.
I'll probably repost some more for the defense of this movie after seeing it tonight for the second time. I'm just trying to show the nay sayers that there is more than one way to look at this movie and still enjoy it. And to any fans who liked it, don't bash the nay sayers, they do bring points of interest that are valid. To go against them, simply present an argument that counters theirs intelligently. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

Vern vs. TRANSFORMERS - One shall stand and one shall fall...
"The music sounds like John Carpenter or TERMINATOR but the composer seems to be the only one making any effort to create drama. Everybody else is assuming the effects people will put that in later." by vern.
That was my point I was tryin' to make. The MUSIC in the Transformers movie, sounds too much like something else! Like the Terminator Theme & The Batman Begins Theme was put together like they couldn't come up with something new, something fresh. Read up top of what I said. The name is Mouse. Thanks Autobots. Don't be a DECEPTICON !!! Pretty much what I'm tryin' to say was the music was gay. BAD!
"Just one more thing though! Thanks." by Dennis, MOUSE..." Posted by Mouse | July 3, 2007 4:09 AM
"The music was great. Jablonsky is one of my favorite composers." POSTED BY: Jan Panda
Since JAN PANDA thinks this guy or girl Jablonsky is the great composers, what else did he or she compose? Cause I never heard of this person. The MUSIC could have been way better if maybe Danny Elfman or John Williams composed it.

This was possibly the most "entertaining" movie I've seen in years! The action sequences were absolutely phenomenal! I know a lot of critics are going to give this movie a hard time, but I'm learning that most of these people aren't even real fans of the series or the comics. Not every movie has to be an oscar winning documentary. After a long work week you want to go into a movie theater kickback and just enjoy yourself. And without a doubt Transformers brings it!!! Michael Bay keep doing your thing my man! We've got your back! Please don't screw the sequel up by making "too" many changes. I think this one will be extremely successful because it stayed true to what "true" fans remember about the storyline. Transformers, the unequivocal hit of the decade!

I have seen TF twice - once at BotCon, in a theatre of (obviously) pretty hard-core TF fans. And again on Monday 7/2 at 10:45pm - "general population" fans. While a good half were HS & college-aged that you'd expect on a summer night, the other half were 20 & 30-somethings, that would've grown up w/ the TF cartoon & toys (and probably had to get up early that morning, and the next too). Maybe 15% gals in BC show, about 30% evening show. I mention these demos, as I've never had the opportunity to see something with such different groups of fans/viewers.
That said, I LOVED it! The lubrication scene should've been cut (altho it got quite a few laughs from the GP), and more vocal differance from the robots - especially the Cons, but even between Ratchet & Ironhide - if I wasn't looking at the screen, I wouldn't have been able to tell who it was likely to be (and no, while I'm a "Geee-wuner", Ironhide doesn't have to have a southern drawl). I thought for the most part, a nice balance of humor & action.
The humorous spots got more laughs in the GP show, but less reaction to the Cool moments (OP saying Roll Out, Megs speaking, first transformation on screen, etc) than the BotCon showing.
Overall, I'd say TPTB have a hit - and a good starting point to run with, for the sequels. Rumor at BC was that they're eyeing a '09 release, which makes sense - this is one franchise that you do NOT want to go cold. If they do not up the humor, and keep the general chracterizations of the (reused named) TFs intact, they should be able to keep interest high. 4.5/5 stars

This movie was AWESOME!!!
I am going to say this because it's true. I am a HUGE Star Wars fan. A nut. 3 words: FA-NA-TIC.
Transformers topped Star Wars by light years. I'm talking about Episodes 1,2,3,4,5,6 all in one. This movie was THE BEST I've seen. Jurrasic Park floored me. Independance Day was great. Transformers beats them all.
Kudos ... not enough Kudos ... to Michael Bay and crew for the presentation. It was not campy. It was not overkill. It WAS over the top.
The acting was outstanding. Josh Duhamel and crew did much service to the men in uniform (being a former sailor myself). Shai's performance harkens back to high school and the angst of getting your first car/first taste of adult freedom. Megan Fox was NOVA hot and played her part very well. The "tech geeks" all were believable. Mr. Voight was outstanding in his role. Loved seeing the "old timer" get his hands "dirty" shooting a shotgun at Frenzy. Was cool to see that.
Overall, not enough could be said for this movie. Only thing that could top it would be a sequel and only Michael Bay (and crew) should shoot it.
You should have heard me in the theater. I was like "Oh S***!" or "F***!" or "Holy S***!" through the whole thing. My wife kept telling me to "shut up or we will leave". I promptly "shut up". She enjoyed it about as much as I did.

Transformers is by far the best movie Ive seen this year. Spidey, F4, Die Hard, none of these movies showed up. I have to agree with one reader, who said the music could have been better. The music sounded like every other Bay film. Besides that, the movie was excellent! Cant wait for the film on Hd dvd, and the sequel to this film. Go see it!!

Best action moive i've seen in years. I thought this movie wouldn't live up to the hype and that Bay main changes from the 80's cartoon would hurt this movie but it all came together and Bay pulled it off. I was shocked at how many funny parts are in the movie, how the story line worked and how awesome the transformers look. The sound and FX for this movie is off the charts, this moive really is just a intro of what you should expect from part 2.
I give this movie an A.

There are no words to express how amazing this movie was. I must admit I took my five year old expecting it to be a not so good movie. Needless to say I enjoyed it way more than my son. It was action packed from start to finish and the ooshy-gooshy love stuff was left for the end the way it should've been. The move was very well made and I don't think there will be another like it for some time to come.

No.1 All the autobots were gen 1 that's cool
No.2 Only 2 of the decepticons were gen 1 and frenzy was from soundwave not barricade.
No.3 The transforming sound from the cartoons, that's not a mechanism inside the bots but its the sound of transforming. Michael Bay tried to fit it in as a mechanism, wasnt good.
No.4 Loved it when Optimus Prime said the signature phrases.
No.5 Bumblebee changing to a camaro ok but did they put him next to a beetle(his actual car in the cartoons)at the garage on purpose?
No.6 Robots playing hide and seek that's funny and cheesy at the same time.
No.7 The very first fight in the cartoon and the movie was at a Dam.
No.8 WHY DID THEY KILL JAZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That made me hate the movie lol.

I thought the movie was amazing. I cant wait for it to come out on dvd. Also to all of you who sit here and talk about how horrible the movie was when are we going to see the masterpiece that you directed? If you people are such great directors when does your box office hit come out? Probably never right.

I am not a person that normally would watch this type of movie. I "liked" the xmen films, superman returns, etc. This movie with transformers in it, well left me speachless. I was awed by the special affects, the story line, but especially the cast. All of them, really brought the story and their own characters out to us in the audience. I have two 7 and 9 year old boys. You could not have torn them away from the seat they were in. Anyone and everyone involved in the movie, from the top actors and producer Michael Bay to the lowest man on the totem poll should be extremely proud of what they have accomplised. To bring such an idea to the table from the start was taking a risk. I just want to thank everyone involved with the film, in anyway, thank you for THAT quality time I had with my children and my husband. It was definitely the best movie I have seen in a long, long time. Also, keep up the amazing work. Thank you again for a wonderful movie experience.

Hands down the best movie of not only the summer but of 2007. Going into the theater I really didn't think that they could of pulled it off but boy was I wrong. Not only did it have a crap load of action but it had a little bit of comedy thrown in there as well. If you were a fan of the original Transformer cartoon in the 80's then you will love this movie.

I have seen alot of movies in my life, of all genres, and Transformers is by far the best movie i have ever seen. It has action, drama, comedy, and even some singing. Its absolutely perfect. It covers every aspect of a film. The Transformers and there transformations are stunning pieces of cinema CGI. Its a shame the Academy Awards dont really take kindly to action films, because i believe the CGI is Oscar worthy. ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE OSCAR!.
The action is incredible. The fighting between Optimus Prime and Megatron and the rest of the Autobots and Decepticons was awesome.
The comedy in this movie was on another level in comedy. When Jazz pissed on John Turturro's character i laughed so hard. And the songs Bumblebee(Autobot) plays in the Camero were very funny because they went right along with the scene that was taking place. The song 'Baby Come Back' started to play during a scene were Megan Fox's character decided to walk home instead of taking the ride home in the Camero with Shia Lebouff's character.
I had a smile on my face from start to finish. This movie ROCKED!!
10 out of 10, Two thumbs way up!!
I am now buying an 18 Wheeler and calling it Optimus Prime.
Cant wait for the Sequel(there better be one).

1st off, I loved Transformers as a kid. 2nd off, I know what to expect from a Michael Bay movie. Guess what? The Transformers cartoon movie is a cinematic masterpiece next to this. Wanna know something else? Die Hard 4 was WAY better than this, as painful as it is to admit that. Optimus Prime was a total waste in this movie, and that, my friends, is unforgivable.

Absolutley amazing and without a doubt the best movie so far this summer! The visual effects were nothing short of spectacular and the fighting scenes kept me on the edge of my seat. You'll have those occasional people who complain about the "medicore acting" and "horrible story line", but this movie wasn't made to win an Oscar, it was made to blow your mind with special effects and watching alien robots kick the crap out of each other :D
10/10 for me, and easily on my list of all time favorite movies, purely for its amazingly high level of entertainment and special effects.
Not to mention, Josh Duhamel is a total stud muffin ^^

I'D RATHER HAVE A MIDGET HARD SLAM A RUSTY, ACID-DIPPED TUNING FORK UP MY ASS AND GIVE IT A FEW TWISTS BEFORE WATCHING THAT GROTESQUELY OVERBLOWN, UNDERTOLD PIECE OF GALACTIC SHIT AGAIN.
IT SUCKED DONKEY BALLS WITH CRAB SPRINKLES ON THEM!!!!

Transformers kicked major ***! I can't believe a reviewer here at comingsoon.net gave it a 3. The other reviewer's 9.5 was much more accurate. They successfully translated this series to the big screen. Don't listen to the critics and generation one fans don't doubt it. It is a wild ride and I can't wait for more!

Was the plot simplistic? Yes. Was the dialogue cheesy? Yes. Were there too many cliches? Yep. Would I see it again? Absolutely. I normally disdain "dumb" movies, but this one was just too fun to watch. Maybe I loved the toys and cartoon so much that I am able to overlook the deficiencies of the movie, but regardless, it is worth seeing.

I have watched every Transformers series out there, including the Jap ones that never came here.. Transformers the Movie is an absolute gem. Those who hated it, obviously never grew up with it to the extent that some have... Everything from classic lines to the chills that i got when Blackout makes for the first time on the big screen again, the classic transforming noise... Bay did a great job of porting a cartoon/CG animated kids show into real life.
Of course they had to look different, Bay wanted to make it look as though its real life... What? were we going to have the huge Megatron turn into a hand pistol? No, but Bay ported a great version of Galvatron over as a weapon platform...
Kudos to the entire crew that did Transformers...Also, i want to say that Bay does a great job of using real life action sequences as much as possible before using CG... I makes for a far richer screen shot than taking the cheap way out and just CG'ing everything (ie, 2-3 Matrix's).
I can write for days the effect that this movie has had on me... Instant childhood flashbacks for me... makes me want to cry
