Its not terrible, but its not the best, and its not a Die Hard movie. This like the third one is some story that they shoved John McLane into.I must say the action is great, but it cant survive on that alone. For all its good points, there are ten bad. the editing is terrible, and the director seems to only know action, so when nothings blowing up, your in trouble. They relooped all the sound to cut out the use of F***, and it doesnt sync well at all, and if your concerned, he says the line, yes it is muffled by a gunshot. To quote my friend "They cut John McLane's balls off". Over all, i was very entertained, but, Iexpect more from my favorite action series. 2 1/2 stars

I was very disappointed by this film. It isn't Die Hard. John McClane just felt sooo restricted. We essentially got a neutered John McClane. Its John Motherf**king McClane!!!! To quote the original..." What the f**k are you doing here John? Fox messed the franchise up ***hole!" I truly hope that Fox releases the uncut DVD soon, or perhaps even RERELEASE with the R rating. Until then Fox will not be receiving any more of my money.

Hi, We are Karl and John. We just finished to see that movie and we really like it. There was lot of jokes and action, the storyline was following the previous movies and the story was good. Maybe they have exagerate a little bit too much with the truck part, but we still like it. We hope they will work on a part 5 ^^. Finally, after 12 years we got a part 4 :P and we are very happy of the result. Go for it Bruce Willis, "Yippi kay Mother fucker" :P

We saw it last night and agreed that it was a terrible film. There was absolutely no plot, motive, or character. They succesfully made Die Hard a video game. Zero star review. It was hard to sit through.

It's an over the top action movie and although McClane was sort of dropped in this situation, that is really the general idea of all of the Die Hard movies. Admittedly this one felt a little forced, but it is still probably one of the best action movies I have ever seen. It's nearly 2 and a half hours long and I was never bored, never checking my watch and generally just had a good time. Yes the re-syncing for the PG13 hiccupped a few times and no it isn't always an award winning shot, but it's an action movie, not some powerful drama. Go and see it like any action movie, turn off your brain, sit back and enjoy McClane kicking ass. d:-)

Did they even test-screen this movie first? As far as I'm concerned, going for a PG-13 rated killed the movie. Bruce Willis might as well not even be in it.

Finally! A summer movie worth writing home about. I personally would like to thank Bruce Willis and the makers of this film for rescuing this summer from the pile of crap we've been subjected to thus far (Knocked Up excluded thank you).
I don't get why people on this site are bashing the film...it's a total throwback to the summer blockbusters of the 90's...a time where action was filmed with real people...not pirates and men in spider suits. The over the top stunts and good-naturedly eye-rolling dialogue are all key to the formula. It's absolutely the best film I've seen all summer and the packed audience I saw it with this morning (bright and early at 10am) surey agreed judging by their cheers and applause at many points in the movie.
I never thought the film would be as good as it was...
And to people that are saying that John has been 'neutered'...are you out of your mind? Did we see the same movie? He's still as bad-ass as ever...

Fantastic!!! This movie couldn't have come at a better time!
After several disappointing CGI movies it was pure joy to see oldschool, bareknuckle John McClane kicking the living sh*t out of a couple of nerdy computer-terrorists.
It doesn't need much to pull off a good "Die Hard"-flick - and this one was a real blast.
Fine holliday fun. Two thumbs up!!!

this was an amazing film, worthy of the die hard title. granted, it took like 15 minutes for bruce willis to stop doing his john mcclane impression and leave the movie so john mcclane can step in and take over, but it happened right before john knocked down the helicopter, when he was talking to himself "all you had to do was take a kid from jersey to dc, whats so hard about that" or something to that effect. let me tell you why this was a die hard movie, but this explanation only makes sense if you think that the original trilogy is incredible. first, every die hard gets bigger, and if i need to spell it out for you, its first a building, then an airport then a city, and now half the eastern seaboard. it just gets bigger and bigger every time. second, every movie, except for the second, which is the worst of the trilogy but still is one of the top 3 action movies of all time, has mcclane and his personal problems with his marriage, which would obviously transfer to his children, namely his daughter in this movie, so people complaining that it was too personal mcclane and not ass kicking mcclane just don't understand what die hard is. third, how can he survive these things? that is what peole are saying, and they are saying that it is unrealistic. if you watched, enjoyed and believed the first three movies, then this should have no problem to realism. in the first movie he took a lot more punishment than he did in this movie. he walked on glass, bungy jumped with a fire hose, got shot in the arm, been knocked over by a huge ass explosion, jumped through an elevator shaft. that was the first movie, so why are people so quick to judge this movie. i repeat, if someone were to say, well, then i have that complaint that its not realistic for the first movies also, then they are not die hard fans. die hard fans know that john will take these punishments and keep going. in fact, in this movie it was more realistic, because during the time he had to travel from place to place, he could bandage himself up and stuff. fourth, the pg13 rating. what i think happened, and this is just a wild guess, was that the editors, producers and whoever else, watched the movie, realized that the blood was within pg13 tolerance, and the f word was said only a dozen times at most. they were thinking, why don't we just dub over those dozen or so f words and open this amazing franchise to a slightly younger crowd. you could tell when the words didn't match with the lips, but all in all it was a forgivable judgment call on their part, and who cares because theres probably gonna be an "unrated" dvd anyway, with those beloved swear words right back in. so, if you like the original doe hards, then there is no reason to not like this new addition, and frankly iwould be very happy to see another chapter or 2 in the mclane sage, so long as the sixth one isn't called "live free or die hard 2: live free or die harder."
ps- any real die hard fan should know that all odd die hard movies have to do with the grubers and all even die hard movie have to do with shutting down a well protected system and taking it over. if you didn't know that, then you gott watch the movies a few more times

This movie was definitely DIE HARD worthy. Come on people! So it didn't have the cussing, who cares, the action was rockin' hard! Maybe not the best Die Hard but definitely the most action in my opinion. I'm a die hard crazy fan and I loved it. Good work people! Thank you Bruce for giving us McClane again...I missed him.

This movie was really good, much to my surprise. I was waiting for this film being there when John first walked into Nakatomi plaza. I was really worried about the PG-13, but after a lil bit you don't even realize it. This is still the violence we expect in a Die Hard film. McClane is still covered in blood. So you miss a few F-bombs, it's really no biggie. And for all you haters out there on this film and say that it is too over the top, have you seen a Die Hard film before? Klinke, did you actually watch this move? The action is always outrageous. Sure the F-35 fighter sequence was a bit over the top, but you know what...I loved it. Die Hard films aren't out to win oscars. They are supposed to be fun. There were plenty of instances that made Live Free or Die Hard seem like a classic Die Hard. Whenever McClane would talk to himself, or laugh whenever he did something outrageous, I knew I was watching a Die Hard. And after leaving that theater, I found myself very entertained by the return of McClane, so Bruce and Len...mission accomplished. I will gladly return for a 5th outing.

I paired with an IT maven to take a combination cinematic/security look at this movie. Our article is over at Computerworld.com.
