Shrek 3...oh boy, where do I begin? Basically this sequel was not needed what so ever. This had to be the worst in the trilogy. I really didn't laugh that much this time around cause the humor wasn't there. Much of the characters that returned really didn't get a lot of screen time. And the whole Prince Charming should of ended in Shrek 2. The plot to this film just bombed. And what was up with the whole Shrek as a father story? Kids aren't going to know how to relate to it. And it just was mixed into the film. Really I feel this film was rushed, and could of been a lot better. The ending just bombed as well. I just didn't care fore it much in general. Plus with the trailers and previews you saw most of the movie in the trailer itself, so there was really no point in actually going to see it. Yet again, another summer flop right here. Such a waste. Let's just hope "Pirates 3" doesn't disappoint. I'd say save your money this time around, and wait for a rental.

i really didn't dig this one a whole lot. i had a really hard time with the artie character. i found him annoying, and i really don't like justin timberlake as the voice of him either. i looked at my watch a few times during the course of the movie. and, i found myself thinking during certain scenes that they should have been shortened. for example, when the king dies, the scene was incredibly dragged out. since this is supposed to be a kids movie there were certain references that i thought were inappropriate, such as the whole "trailer" at the high school with kids coming out of it and "pot" smoke following. i should have waited for the dvd. when shrek 4 comes out, i'll know better.

Third time, not quite the charm...but still fun!, May 18, 2007
By Daryl B (Nashville, Tennessee United States) - See all my reviews
In a summer of threequels (Spidey 3, Shrek 3, and Pirates 3), everyone's favorite green orge returns, complete with his true love, Fiona, and his sidekicks, Donkey and Puss in Boots. The Shrek franchise is a popular series of films (and a definite money maker) and this film should continue that trend. However, this film is not quite up to par with its predecessors.
The story begins in Far Far Away Land where Fiona's father dies, but not before asking Shrek to step into his royal shoes and rule the kingdom. Shrek is none-to-happy to fulfill the dying wishes of his dead father-in-law and decides to seek out another heir to the throne who the dying monarch mentions before he croaks...pun intended!
With Shrek off on an adventure to find the heir, who turns out to be Arthur or "Artie" (King Arthur and played rather dimly by Justin Timberlake), the scheming Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) returns with an army of fairy tale villains determined to steal the throne and banish his green rival once and for all.
The story this time around seems to take a little longer to get rolling and doesn't quite have the charm of the first two films. The film does have its moments and I did love the fact that this movie empowers the fairy tale heroines (played by the wickedly talented, Mya Rudolph, Amy Sedaris, Cheri Oteri and Amy Pohler) who are normally relegated to being saved by a handsome and heroic prince. This time the girls including Cinderella, Snow White, Sleepy Beauty and Fiona rush to the rescue of the men and give the twisted fairy tale a "girl power" makeover! Another charming aspect of the film is that we get to see Shrek as a daddy, which provides an upbeat and endearing ending to the film. One thing that did bother me a little is Donkey and Puss switching bodies after a magic spell goes wrong. It was a funny bit but after a while it was a little disconcerting to hear the voice of Antonio Banderas coming out of donkey's mouth and Eddie Murphy's coming out of Puss' mouth. And, as far as Timberlake voicing Arthur, I wasn't all that impressed. If he were replaced in the fourth film, it really wouldn't bother me at all.
But if you are a Shrek fan, I think you will enjoy the film. It does have some funny moments and the animation, as usual, is beautiful. A good addition to the Shrek franchise.

Just like spider man 3, this also was a let down. The most exciting part for me was when i realized that Lancelot was voiced by John Krasinski. He plays Jim on NBC's The Office. And that was the only exciting part, the best parts were shown in the trailer. So Pirates 3 is set to be the big one for the summer, with transformers close behind. Go Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio! don`t disappoint us!

I loved Shrek the Third!! I thought it was very funny and a great "next chapter" in the series! I can't wait for Shrek the Fourth. All of the characters were very funny and entertaining. Timberlake was ok, not great, not overly bad, but ok. Same goes for Diaz, at times it really seemed like she phoned it in. But the rest of the cast was spot on! Prince Charming was a great villain, not to mention hilarious! Puss and Donkey once again stole the show, but Snow White's, "led zeplin" bird attack and on liners was priceless!
The only thing that i feel the movie lacked was there was no real popular song included. In Shrek 2 they had "i need a hero" and "la vida loca" which were both great! Also, i think that there should've been a much bigger final battle with all of those fairytale villains. I was really expecting to see their respective heroes, but dissappointedly, non showed and they gave up too easily to Artie's speech.
Besides that, the movie was great!

Shrek the Third is another muched hyped and anticipated three-quel that falls far expectations. It's still very cute and still pretty funny, but the laughs aren't as good as the last two and neither is the story. There is no originality to this one. It still takes on the same premises as the first two movies. The plot is VERY predictable. The characters are now formulaic. And the new character Arthur (Artie) is very forgettable which is sad because he had potential to be much more involved in the story. The first Shrek movie is still the best; Shrek 2 comlimented the first one perfectly...; Shrek 3 begs more the question: what happened?

My wife and I went to see it. We strongly disliked the cheap humor of the 2nd movie. It felt as if they were trying way to hard to be funny and it came out forced and canned. We were happy that the 3rd installment did not do this. The humor was much more controlled and appropriate. That being said, we didn't feel that it was worth our money and that it would have been better left to a dollar theater. It didn't come close to the first movie in terms of story quality.
I agree with others that there really is no point to this movie at all. It feels like they are just exploiting a popular movie to make more off of it.

I loved SHrek the Third. It is now my favorite of the trilogy. I was laughing my butt off at the end with the belch, belch, fire belch, fart. The villian, Prince Charming, was cool. I don't like Justin Timberlake at all but he did well with his character. The jokes are clever, some are maybe inapropriate for children such as the pot trailer and Puss saying "My friend, you're [insert loud boat noise here]" after Fiona tells Shrek that she's pregnant. Overall I really enjoyed it and def will buy this one on DVD.

Shrek 3 was like a good meal that was missing just a certain spice. I wouldn't be surprised if the fact that it had 6 screenplay writers (I'm pretty sure that's how many I counted in the credits) is why the story suffered. There was so much good material but they never seemed to focus on one idea long enough to get a good meaty story. The idea of Charming leading the villains to attack the castle was great, but ended up being underwhelming. And the princesses teaming up was another great gag that didn't seem to be used enough. The quest to find Artie didn't seem like it had enough weight to it and the ending was definitely anticlimactic. The sad thing is, it's not a bad movie and it's obvious by the weekend total that it'll make it's money. But that's probably mainly due to the fact that these are still the same great characters we've come to love and we want to see them on screen again. Even if it is in a movie that's not as good as its predecessors.

I am one of the biggest fans of Shrek of all time, and I have to say I understand what people are saying about Shrek The Third, it was just horrible, I said to myself as I came out of it, it is so bad that is doesn't even deserve the time it takes to write a review, so basically, it had a very poor story, the characters were not as great, the writers must have been smoking crack, because since when does it take 7 writers to make a peice of crap!!!!!!!!!!! I can't belive it!
I waited for this for YEARS, I went to it first showing! I have ever Shrek figure known to man, and then they go and do this??????????????
I recomment NOT seeing it, ( though I have heard it did big business at the box office anyhow) well ya I did see it but it was crap!!!!!!!!!
The next one BETTER redeem this poor excuse for a SHREK film... go look at the first one! It's beautiful and well written!!!!!!!
( I wish I could have said the same For STT!
1 star our of 10, ruined the whole franchise!

Loved it. Best of the third.
I wasn't a great fan of the first; I thought that when the first wasn't predictable and cliche, it was irrelevant. There was too much stuffed into it and that made it a hodgepodge of almost-humor.
The third is better. I will admit, though, that my favorite parts involved the Shrek babies, because it reminded me of my own 3-month old.

Shrek the Third was definitly not as good as the first one, but I thought better than the second. It was short, to the point, and honestly quite funny. I was pleased with it, thought it was good enough for a sequel. I felt like the reviews were quite unfair considering how hard it would be for it to match the first one.
