I was fortunate to be able to see this movie at the Disneyland Premier on 5/19. One word sums up my experience - spectacular! I had no difficulties following the various plot twists and turns, non-stop action and adventure and the 3 hour playing time just flew by. The movie itself does rely heavily on knowledge of the first two movies and there were a few minor parts that I did not care for but overall all the loose ends were tied up nicely and the ending left the door ajar just enough for more adventures with Captain Jack Sparrow. Overall, I found the movie thoroughly entertaining.

It's a movie made for the die hard fans, if you din't like the first two you won't like this one. It is bigger and better as far as the complexity of the story and the size of the battle sequences. These movies were created with the intention of multiple viewings to really take everything in, and this film is no exception. For those that don't pay attention it is easy to get lost, it is certainly not loud and dumb like most action adventure films. With this movie and all the movies of the trilogy you need to pay attention. Overall I loved it, i felt it delivered what it needed to rap up the series. Johnny Depp, Bill Nighy, and Geoffery Rush were fantastic as always and the special effects were even bigger than what was done with Dead Mas Chest. Go check it out, and have fun with it

As is expected i loved this movie. Now don't get me wrong, it is not the greatest movie of all time, but it is certainly worth every penny. The thing that i really like about this series and this movie especially is the unpredicability of it all and how every character is looking out for number one (themselves). The Graphics, story (although it has many twists), Acting (even the smallest of the characters) and action are first class. The humour works so well within the story and you don't feel that it is forced on to the movie (like we notice in many movies these days). However, the best thing in this movie had to be the relationship between Barbosa and Jack Sparrow which i felt was sourly missing from the second movie in the series. The hours really do just fly by (enjoy ....)

I like it very much. Though there are a lot of story threads moving, it didn’t feel convoluted at all, unlike the recent swinging bug. Please see at least part 2 before watching part 3, it will help a lot.

Watching part 3 reminds me more and more of Terry Gilliam. The adventures and effects are surreal it really brings back the memories when I was watching "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen". I got to watch that movie again.

It didn’t really matter the slow pace in the first half. After the unexpected ending in part 2, if you’re watching them back to back it is quite welcomed (I did watch the second part before I went to the cinema). Jack was dead, to bring him back there should be a slow dreamlike scenes to make it work.

Everyone’s got their own resolution to their character, even the 2 guards from the first movie. I’m just not sure about Calypso’s though, I guess her true power will be revealed in the next one. The battle at the end was impressive, there were a lot of things going on I actually paused a second and think how they could have plan the whole choreography, swordfights, canon fires, swinging pirates, the rain/storm, the intricate & dizzying camera work (but not overkill), the monkey, and a matrimonial ceremony all in one!

Effects by John Knoll (The Abyss, Star Wars prequels, this year’s Oscar winner), this time with the help of Charles Gibson are top-notch (Davy Jones was not a make-up work, the whole character was CGI), so far my candidate for Oscar next year. Art direction by Rick Heinrichs (one of Tim Burton’s favorite, I’m still amazed by his design in Sleepy Hollow) and cinematography by Dariusz Wolski (The Crow, Dark City, and the upcoming Tim Burton’s Sweeny Todd) was breath-taking as usual. Acting was fine. The writers obviously did their homework on pirate mythologies, or piratology, a lot of betrayals,we get to know Barbosa’s first name, and it’s nice to hear the word parlay again. And the director did a very good job for this kind of movie (well, it’s not my-back-is-broken-while-in-the-mountain kind of movie), even Steven Spielberg never expects the directing Oscar whenever he goes to his favorite fantasy genre.

And what really makes me smile was Jack’s final scene, and with that everything kind of return to the way they were (except for Will & Elizabeth) in the opening of the first movie. I can almost imagine that I can watch all 3 parts in loop! Even with that, it’s still open for more adventures in the future!

My geek-o-meter: 7.5 / 10
My critique-o-meter: 5.5 / 10

The long awaited conclusion to the mega-bucks trilogy, I must say the wait was completely worth it. "At World's End" was an awesome way to conclude the series. It finally tied up some of the questions I've had from the first two films. The flow of the story was right on from the previous two, where it wasn't just another "sequel". Which was pretty awesome. Gore Verbinski once again has achieved another box office hit. The story was nailed, by the leading cast. The only storyline that was a bit sketchy was Calypso's story. Not much of it was explained, but still the FX work in this movie was monstrous this time around. And the sets were just unbelievable. And Keith Richard's cameo, wasn't big, but still made a point to the story.

As again, another ending with good ol' Captain Jack, which makes you believe there might be something in the distance for him. And thank god. The first summer movie that I am giving 2 thumbs up. Cause "Spider-Man 3" and "Shrek 3" were probably the worst sequels I've seen. But lucky for me I'm a huge Pirates fan, so I had huge expectations for this film. And sure enough they were lived up.

It's a valiant sailboat riddled with cheap, worn out gags. With so many subplots, it's impossible to follow. The characters have completely lost their edge, and poor Depp's mannerisms can only do so much before his pathetic writers pull him down to the bottom of the ocean. It's brutally violent in some parts, and unbelievably silly in others. Pirates can't pick an audience. It's exhausting. It's a 5th grader effort with an endless budget, and insults its audience with what it thinks will amuse them. Because monkeys and saying "rum" repeatedly is so funny. Could have been worse, but should have been much better.

Got out of the 8pm showing tonight of POTC: AWE and I am still tickled silly about watching a truly whale of a movie. WOW is the first word that comes to mind. The conclusions of just about every character story line was great and didn't cheapen anyone out of their just due. The battle scenes were awe-inspiring. In a summer filled with sequels of such major disappointment, it was both a relief and a true enjoyment to watch Pirates in all its glory. I will be watching it again. Go see it, you will have a blast!

I saw the 9pm show tonight. I thought the movie overall was really good. The action was excellent, You can never get enough of Captain Jack Sparrow, an d most of the story lines were creative and coherent this time. Two parts of the story that I didn't like/get were Chow Yun Fat's acting and The Black Woman's (i don't want to give away anything..?) acting. They both looked gross and I could not understand them. Also i feel like they could have been better. Overall though, I would give it 8/10!! Bring your kids but don't expect them to understand it. They will like the action sequences for sure

While waiting in line to get into the cinema i saw a family come out after just watching POTC 3. They had a strange look, one i've seen before. A glazed, perplexed look.....one that screamed out 'What the f*** was that?'. After 3 hours (Including a useless intermission) I have to agree! With the exception of the charismatic Cpt Jack Sparrow the entire movie is completely clueless and pointless. Where as the 1st movie was straight, easy to follow with a singular entertaining story, POTC3 is the equivalent of a plate of spaghetti. Too many stories, too many direction changes, too many main characters and toooo long! My advise, avoid at all costs unless you wish to use the 3 hours usefully like the chap to my left did and catch up on some sleep!

Bad film - period. In order for a good film, there needs to be a good story. The first POTC film had one, but sadly the second and the third did not. In the end it feels like half of what's been going on the movies means nothing... Honestly, half the events are pointless and don't have a real conclusion. A big let down. The people who rave about the second and third movies are raving about one thing, and that's Jack Sparrow. I honestly didn't care for the characters as I did in the first movie - there is just too much of everything. Of course the movie is left open for a fouth, and the idea presented probably should have been the second.

Best thing to compare this trilogy to... The Matrix trilogy. Amazing first movie, but the second and third were anything but.

Oh Disney, when you finally do something right for once you gotta just screw it up - don't you?

Let me start off by saying how incredible a movie this was. The characters, the special effects and most importantly the music were spectacular. One of the draw backs from the second one compared to the first was the music and this installment surely picks up where the first left off. Hopefully this will be the last of the Pirates series for I would not like Disney to ruin a good thing as many other films such as Spider man have done. The plot was easy to follow, as long as you watched the first two movies, and definately kept you guessing and entertained throughout the entire 2 hours and 45 minutes which not many movies have done recently. For all movies these days care about are special effects but this one cares more about the story and characters and that follows through from the onset of the movie to the closing credits.

This was one really big movie. From the get go it just feels much bigger than the previous 2 in the trilogy. The run time is perfect as it doesn't feel to long, but it's not over to quickly either. I loved having Barbosa back and this movie just confirms that he is my favorite of the pirates hands down. The actors all did a great job with their characters and the writers certainly gave them great ideas and material to work with. Special effects were off the chart. The story was complex and dense, but it was not difficult to follow. The music was grand and powerful. This is definitely a movie that will take multiple viewings to really absorb everything. The various plots of the first two are all wrapped up and many questions answered. The trilogy was ended very nicely and satisfyingly as well while still leaving enough open ended for more adventures. I think one of my favorite aspects of the movie were the various nods to the Disneyland attraction in the form of dialog taken straight from it. It was a great way to recognize what started this trilogy off. Excellent movie, full of twists and turns that come fast, great acting and more adventure than you can swash a buckle at!

Okay, I saw this movie at an 8:00 show last night. This was a decent movie. It wasn't as good as some of the other sequels of the year. Still it wasn't as bad as the reviewers have led us to believe. I believe the reviewers wrote the opinions while the butts were still sore from sitting so long. There was great action, but overall the movie was very bloated. Most of the conflicts are resolved in a reasonable fashion. It leaves questions for a possible 4th installment, and it gives Knightley and Bloom an out if they still want it. I like the characters and I think it is a little bit late in the franchise to recast. Summing up. The movie is worth seeing. I will probly see it again, but be ready to sit for about 3 hours with trailers and staying to the coda after the credits. Go see it, it is good, but just shy of great.

Oh my god I loved it sooooooo much!!!! ahhhhhh I love pirates!!!! I dressed up for it last night and went to the showing at 8 and I was sooooooo frickin excited!!!!! I am a huge Johnny Depp fan so that's probably one of the reasons I liked it so much....but still. Sooooo good. I really liked the plot and the twisted ending. Though I should probably go see it again cuze some parts were confusing. but of course I'll see it again!!! it was amazing!!!!! Drink up me hearties YO HO

saw POTC last night and i loved it. the action was great and the store lines started in the first movie where raped up and questions answerd. the only thing i have to complain about is the calipso storie line it diddnt end the way i thought it should and they could have used jakes father more. all i got to say is bring on pirats 4: fountin of youth.

I too was at the premiere and loved it. The story line was easy to follow but you would have had to watch Pirate 1 & 2 to understnd it. Yes, there were times I felt it dragged but that was because I had anticipated it so much that I wanted to have it move faster into the things that I wanted to see. It was bigger and better than Dead Man's Chest. I went again last night and had a thoroughly great time...It was better the second time as I had more opportunity to see and hear the subtle effects and innuendos that were going on that I had missed at the premiere. No dragging, it moved right along. Actually we could go see it again and probably will this weekend.

It was a good movie in many aspects.
The beginning was slow, sure there was action and a story, but we were immediately in the next story of this movie and I expected a scene with Barbosse, Tia Dalma and the others. After about 15 minutes the movie turns into the best of three.

Finally you can see how crazy Jack really is, not does he talk with his other “I’s”, but they have “lives” of there own, very good. And Davy Jones, what a broken man, the performers of Bill Nighy and ILM is superior in this character. That Tia Dalma had a big secret with Davy Jones could almost be guest in the beginning of the movie because she was suddenly said and with the little words she said, she gave away her secret. Some other plots in this movie came as I expected while seeing the movie, like the ending with Will, so a lot of the surprises weren’t really surprises because the story obviously went towards it. Don’t get me wrong, there where a lot of twists and swichting sides that was true to the characters but not expected, so a lot of thing that happened where still suprises like the many, many twists with Jack.

My deepest respect for Geoffrey Rush who plays Barbossa, excellent done and still true to the character as in The Black Pearl. He and Bill Nighy, who did a lot of surprising things with his acting in these two movies, get my vote for an oscar.

The humor in this movie, with all characters, was excellent and the music was really there with the right amount. I also have to mention the final fight, not an expected but great battle, but one with a story and that went on and on. I enjoyed it allot and I will definitely see it second time in the theater.

I liked it a lot. I think some of it had to do with my low expectations after reading the four reviews on the web site. It made a lot of sense to me. I understood that Davey Jone's Locker was supposed to be hell. What better hell for anyone than being stuck in one place going insane, even more so for a pirate. Or "the" pirate Captain Jack Sparrow.

The plot was easy to follow as well. Will wanted his father. Jack wanted to live forever. Elizabeth wanted Will. Barbosa wanted the Pearl. What's not to get. Every person is going to betray and befriend anyone who stands in their way or can help them obtain their goal.

And besides who in the world would think Davey Jones would remain loyal to the EITC any more than Will would remain loyal to the villian?

As far as no action in the 2nd act, there wasn't much. More action is a fun and good thing. But in its place was a lot of intelligent dialouge, chemistry between actors and beautiful scenes. Unlike Episode 3 where we had light saber battle upon light saber battle (instead of the promised explanation as to why the galatic war was started and who Master Sypho Dias was). In At World's End we had every loose end tied up. It's a give and take I guess.

Much like the Prestige there was a lot going on and not much action (until the end), but we had a lot to make up for it than sword battles and ship conflicts. There is more on screen than mindless action in At World's End and it's a promised and fulfilling (remember the outrage by the cliffhanger at DMC?) ending to the trilogy.

Best movie of the summer so far.

At world's End was by far the best in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, and it actually had closure. The best effects and plot twists were saved for the end. I just saw it last night, and it was absolutely amazing. Definatly worth seeing a second time even.

BEST. MOVIE. EVER!!!! I was one of the lucky people to see it at the Cine Capri at the 8pm show thursday night! Dressed as a Pirate of course! I absolutely LOVED it! My ONLY grip was Elizabeths speeches, which should've been done by other characters. BUT It's the best one of the three so far! It had all the great things we loved from "Black Pearl" AND "Dead Mans Chest" plus added new and awesome things for "Worlds End"! All i can say now is MAKE THE 4TH WITH SPARROW AND BARBOSSA!!! We love both those characters, they got HUGE ovations when they first came on screen! Also, Keith Richards was AMAZING! Stole the show! He also got a HUGE ovation when he showed up! I wish he was in more of it!

The story was great! Acting was great! Action was great! Ending was GREAT!!

It gets an 11 out of a possible 10! I'll be seeing it again this weekend!

I was amazed at how much better this one was to the second one. This movie blew me out of the water. I went to the 12:05a.m. showing Friday morning and I was a little tired. But once thefilm started rolling I was awake and amuzed till 3:00 A.M. Even when I got home I was still pumped about what happened that I didn't go to sleep untill 5:00. I agree with alot of the other people you have to be aware of the first two to understand what goes on in this one. They mention alot of things that happen in them to tie this one together. I am a true Pirate fan and I'm glad Disney made these movies to intrigue minds. Little hint in the movie see if you can name all the Pirate flags and who they really went to. Yes they refrence real pirate flags. Well not to spoil everything I'll jst leave it at this. This movie was worth evercent paid for the ticket even to go back and watch it twenty more times. Can't wait till it comes to DVD. A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I went to the 9:00 pm screening last night, and let me tell i have never really been to a movie, where the crowd was just as anxious to see it as everyone in this world is. Yes pirates is long at almost three hours, but it doesnt even feel like it at all, it goes by so quick. The action, the special effects, the adventure, i loved this movie so much. Definitely a good ending to the triology, or is there another on its way???? We shall see......

Fun, action packed thrill ride. It will be the biggest movie of the year. Going out on the limb that it will gross upwards from 500 million. Smarter and better written than Dead Man's Chest. A joy to see Johnny Depp as Capt. Jack Sparrow. Keira Knightley looks amazing. Be patient with the first 25 minutes that take a lingering pace, the rest of the movie is a complete blast.

An ending more than hinting at future sequels.

9/10

I was lucky enough to get tickets to the thursday may 24th pre- screening vewing with my friends at 8.

Hey guys, love the site. You guys are definitely in my top 3 most useful and visited movie websites on the web. And that means quite a bit for me as I also do a movie blog and review movies in a comedic way as an animated character. Our review for POC3 is here.I'd love to know what you guys think of us. Thanks for your time.

i think it was a good movie overall but it seems like it takes forever to get to the storyline of exactly what jack and everybody was doing.....some of the storyline was confusing because it was hard to keep track on who was betraying who and who was on whos side....i thought the first hour and a half of the movie was quite boring and drawn out.....for a while you would think they would hve some point to the beginning of the story but i think they put that in there to draw out the movie to make it feel more dramatic.....it just made it boring!!!!after that jack shows up(took almost an hour)and then the movie came to a funny point because i think some of the stuff jack does is pretty halarious and when he showed up the movie got more interesting.....the best part was the end fight scene.....great special effects and the fight between jack and davy jones is awesome!!!!overall the movie was not as good as the second one but overall was still decent....i give it a 7 out of 10!!!

The movie was great but not so good as the first and second movie. The first hour was weird to follow it began starting really good when Jack was back.I dind like the singapore scene. The greatest scene was seeing Jack's Daddy and he plays a gitar so great.Funny think was when Jack asked' How's mom doing' and he shows a shrinking head laughs. The best of all was the ending scene the big fight at the end and great special effects.I dind like the idea for Will but okay i give the movie a 7 out of 10.

See it in DLP!! I, like may who added to the $14 million pre-show totals, saw Pirates 3 Thursday night. When I pre-bought my ticket though I made sure to be in the one DLP theater out of the 20 screens set up to show that night. I was nothing short of amazed by the experience! Wow! I had seen some DLP presentations in theaters before, but for some reason this looked especially crisp to me. That being said, I found P3 extremely fun. Nothing for academy awards other than the spectacular special effects, but definitley worth a watch. I will say that some of the story confused me a little and/or was a little hard to believe, but as with a lot of "popcorn" movies, as it's said, there has to be a little suspension of disbelief. Just things like captain Barbosa's character being brought back to life. He was supposedly done so through Calypso, but with not explaination other than she just did so. But you know, it's okay, it's funy see him back in the mix. I was happily surprised by Keith Richards role and performance in the film as well. It had me very worried that it would have many dumb jokes tied to it, that Keith would give a terrible performance, or that it would be much too extensive. Such as having him alongside Jack for the entire movie as with the 3rd Indiana Jones movie. But it was just right. Some short speaking parts, a good performance, and nothing too envolved. I loved Hans Zimmer's score as well, which I bought a few days prior. My only complaint in that being the electric guitar in the scene with the 6 captains just before the main battle. That was a little strange and out of place to me. So overall I'd give At World's End a great but not excellent review. It's very defnitely worth a view in theaters and I'll also buy it on blu-ray when it comes out, but I doubt that it will win Oscars other than for special effects and sound. Which, pending the Transformers movie coming out this July, should win hands down. Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum! Pirates 3 is a hell of a lot of fun!

Wow. Plot twists were slightly confusing, but that intermission I had let me clarify everytrhing with my friend to know what was exactly happening. Loved the Calypso stuff, but Tia Dolma changed so much during this. Then the whole Sparrow sceenes and at the end was very nice, especially the truth he said to two certain females. Loved Swann and Turner, tho the ending was dumb. SPOILER WARNING************************************************ the whole 10 year thing was dumb. If Jones could bring crew onto his ship and keep them young like him, why couldn't Will do this with Elizabeth. And it's not like they can't meet on sea anyway. I just wished that after two movies they would have not needed to be separated, which was sad.

OK so I have now seen the movie three times and I can not wait to see it again. I commented earlier on what I thought of the movie and wanted once again to just say how awesome this movie is. Once again if you are having problems understanding the movie go back and watch the first two. It is a simple premise and a simple movie to follow; simply put a love story with pirates withing a deeper love story and a man who wants to kill all of the pirates in the world. AWESOME MOVIE!!!!! ENTERTAINING THE ENTIRE WAY, which is all it is supposed to be!!!!

I LLLLLOOOVVVVEEEDDD IIITT!!!!!!! IT was AMAZING!! The sound effects are Amazing AND THe STORY LINe IS IINNCCRREEDDIIBBLLEE!!! I LOved It!! PEAce!!

Going in to At World's End your expectations are set very high. Right off the title sequence we are reminded of the brutalilty of the British forces and what their intent is. Much of the first half of the film is ala Return of the Jedi as our heroes are searching for Captain Jack.
The tone of the film is on the dark and strange side, expecially once they reach Davy Jones's locker. The humor is toned down, the action is limited until the sea battle, and unless you know who Keith Richards is, and can catch Depp's line you won't get the joke. All in all the third entry does come full circle, and by that once you see it, you'll know what I mean. Be sure to stick around after the end credits for a extra set-up scene for any future Pirate adventures............

I have to agree with most everyone that this film was not particularly well-plotted. But, aside from that, and in spite of myself, I enjoyed it overall. I felt horrible after the second movie, but later viewings had me like it much more. These movies are special for a particular reason, they dare to dream and dream big. Like the Harryhausen movies of the sixties, we have a story that is immense in scale and filled with creatures that are some of the most creative things ever brought to screen. The whole thing is a mess of mixed mythologies, things happen and we don't know why. But, the actors, particularly Geoffrey Rush's Barbossa, are true and vigilant and steadfast.

I hope for more, but next time, I want them to really have a cohesive plot.

Plus- it's rare that even at the end of a giant story, that the heroes do not get what they want. Think about it. It's an intriguing ending.

I loved it, but yes, it will certainly take a few more viewings to get it all. Did anyone else find the ending extremely sad? The "easter egg" helped a tiny bit, but the more I thought about it, the sadder I got.

I don't know why critics and/or viewers complain about it being too long a movie. We pay to dive into a wonderful fantasy. I want to stay there as long as possible.

I only liked the first 2 a little but I loved this movie! The sarcasm and jokes in the first 2 films during the action when people are actually dying drove me crazy but thnakfully At World's End has a much more serious tone.
It wraps up the trilogy brilliantly and raises these films to a new level!

It was good but I just think it was way too long. It didn't have to be three hours. There a lot of plot twists that happened so fast they really didn't have the impact the writers were intending. The whole Singapore scene could have either been omitted or shorten. The bottom line is they needed to get to Captain Jack Sparrow quicker because these movies are not the same without him on screen.
However...
When we finally do get to the climax of the film it is truly an awesome scene. I had hoped that all the ships had gotten involved in the last battle, but the Flying Dutchman vs. The Black Pearl was still are incredible fight. The one surprise was the resolution to Will Turner and Elizabeth's Swan's story arc. It's bittersweet but makes for a good story even if it's not the ending most would like.
Overall, a good movie, but the studios need to stop trying to make every thing like Lord of the Rings in terms of length. Making your movie 3 hours long is not a must for an epic.

I thought it was a convoluted mess. Walking out of the movie my buddy and I both went "ehhhhh... 6.5 [out of ten]." After about the 15th double-cross/back-stab we just didn't CARE any more and couldn't keep track of who was trying to fleece who at that point. So we mentally threw our hands in the air and gave up, figuring that it just didn't matter any more and that we'd see who won at the end...

Great special effects and Depp's acting was great again. But the story left a lot to be desired.

pirates 3 was awesome. It did get a little confusing in the middle with all the double crosses. Plus the Locker scene with Jack, was hilarious. And the final battle sequence was great, one of the best ones i've ever seen.

Great movie, hope they make more, Jack and Barbossa on the Pearl, awesome combination.

Pirates 3: 8/10, because of all the double crosses in the middle, otherwise i would have given it a 10.

Matt

This is the best 'Pirates' yet! Anyone who didn't like it has got to be retarded. This is even the best movie of the summer! Also, the length isn't a factor. All three 'Lord of the Rings' and 'Star Wars 3' were all well over 3 hours. This Pirates was 2 hours, 45 minutes. Again, I say...this is the best 'Pirates' yet so get up, grab your money, and go see it!!!

One more thing....the twists and turns were simple to follow. You just gotta have an open mind!

A complete mess!!! I loved the first 2, especially the first one, but this one was a waste of time. There were quite a few funny moments and the effects and action scenes were incredible, but the plot was incomprehensible. You shouldn't have to see a movie several times to understand it. If you can't get it the first time, then it's not good. Pirates 3 was cluttered with plot twists and directions that led nowhere. Unlike the first movie, it couldn't stay focused on one story and keep to it all the way through. However, unlike many people, the length didn't bother me. No one complained when The Lord of the Rings was 3+ hours, so why is it such a big deal now? I don't usually agree with critics, but this time they're right, Pirates 3 might just be the biggest grossing disappointment of the year.
